I told him the housings were worth more than the car and he should sell them and buy a 13b, lol.

 

The orientation of the apex corners doesn't really matter, it's not uncommon to find them installed 'backwards' on second hand housings in order to avoid continued wear on the housing edge.
Also, how is a motor with a fused bearing going to have any or much end play? lol.

Sounds like a real Einstein put it together though.

 

We didnt find the fused bearing until it was apart. We just thought he used the wrong spacer, but no... death... The funny thing is the rotor moved about 1/4" back and forth along the shaft lobe. It wore its own little track in the bearing.

 

Packed it for DGRR tomorrow!

 

In a stock original build from the days of the 'carbon assist pieces' & before people started bonding them, the apex seal side piece (triangle) was always placed on front side of the rotor. Only way you could assemble them correctly. Gear location had nothing to do with it.

The missing oil-pump chain, though... that's original.

 

They're a lot easier to get on without the chain though!

I got the rad back in the car in the night before last. P*ssed the wife off last night, so had to take a break. She's not as p*ssed this evening, so I put on an S4 aluminum water pump housing on the 13Bpp. Didn't like how it spun...or didn't spin. Pulled it off and put the 12A water pump on. Much better. Then I cleaned the 12A fan. Need to install that and the rad shroud. Then turn my attention back to getting the carb fuel lines, linkage, and OMP hooked up.

Bought two 1/8" NPT bungs to tap into my Weber 48IDA for the OMP this morning at the local hydraulics shop. Now I have to take a drill to the Weber...yikes!

Just premix then you don't have to mess with the carb, 1 oz. of oil per gal. of gas.

 

Drove it.

It was wet.

Bouncing off the rev limiter in 5th is fun haha.

Welded in the fc fuel pump mounting ring on my tank for my t2 swap

 

I got mine out of winter storage.

It had been parked since late October. Other than fuel stabilizer I really did not do too much.
I charged up the battery, installed it, and gave everything I could think of a good once over.

I removed the air cleaner assy and turned the key to get the fuel pump on to make sure I could not see any leaks, stuck needle valves etc.

I got it all back together and it fired up in 2 seconds to a nice 1800rpm by adjusting the choke.

I let it warm up a but, got it out of the garage, and checked everything once it got up to operating temp. Its all good.

Really happy with the car. 1982 GS with 108k KM (67K miles). It is basically all original and in near mint condition. It has never given me any big issues.

Now to drive it!

 

I had fuel stabilizer and a little oil in the tank for the winter too. Wanted to use as much of that fuel before I filled it up. On my way to work Friday morning the car sputtered a few times and actually stalled a couple times as I was going up hill. After I was on level road it ran a bit better but I filled up at the nearest gas station. It continued to run bad so I went home for lunch and changed the fuel filter. Runs great again. I usually keep a spare in the car just in case of times like this. One of these days I will have to clean out the tank properly though. I did clean the tank on my other 79 and it was pretty grungy.

 

I lucked out, the previous owner had the tank completely redone inside and out.

The fuel filter was changed at that time also, maybe 10k km ago. I looked at it and can't see any signs of debris. I have a spare filter and pump just in case.

Was the oil for premix or some other reason?

 

After seeing the inside of my tank on my other 79 I thought if I put additional oil in for the winter storage it would coat the inside and reduce possible corrosion. I usually put some gas line antifreeze in the tank at the first fill after storage to get rid of any moisture formed by condensation during constantly changing temps throughout the winter. It's just something I do, it's easy enough to do. Not sure if it's worth doing but can't hurt.

 

scored a gslse suspension. Can I use my 83 gsl driveshaft with the 84 GSLSE rear end?

 

Yes, you should be able to. So long as your 83 had the big flange on the rear end (I think all of them did, but that's hotly debated) you can use the same driveshaft.

Spent some quality time in the engine bay today. Stripped and cleaned carb, installed K&N air filter,greased headlight linkage arms,decreased and detailed every nook and cranny, installed new oil pressure sending unit (didn't need replacing after all because the crazy bounce on the aftermarket pressure gauge still exists. New gauge on the list of items to buy).
Tomorrow I'm going to look at installing the PLX wideband and reinstalling the 13" plus wheels (still haven't been able to find the M12- 1.5 30mm countersunk socket head bolts that I need to properly run the 4x114 adapters).
Hoping to have her detailed and ready for a cruise and photo shoot this weekend 😃

 

The day before yesterday I installed OMP nozzles on my Weber 48 IDA and hooked up the OMP lines. Yesterday, I hooked up the fuel line to the carb and test fit this *sweet* airbox I got from Japan. Got everything drilled, cut, fit, and popped it on. Looked great. Then went to close the hood. It wouldn't close. Not by a mile. Oh well.

This evening, I mocked up a new airbox in cardboard. It fits perfectly. Now I need to figure out how I want to make the real thing.

Received my louvers yesterday (cable line was cut by yard people so no Internet until today).

 

I bought some brake fluid & gear oil. Swappage time.

 

I listed some parts up for sale, will be listing some more parts soon as well.

 

I scored all the parts I need to refresh the sagged and aged original suspension:

RB Springs and front-back sway bars
Tokico Blues.

All new-in-box from the garage of a local rotor-head who ran out of time on his various projects. I'm super-stoked.

 

Installed new plugs and removed the UIM getting prepped to install the new fuel injectors. I also did some touch up painting on the rear quarter panels.

Ran a clay bar across the car. Need to put a coat of wax over it now.
