Gave her a much-needed bath the other day. Will be tuning the carb and probably replacing the passenger front LCA with j9fd3s next Tuesday.

MZ Racing posted some vid from the SS18 rotary love fest. Brazil 66 can be seen at 1:14.

Only looked at her in the garage as I started cleaning it and re-arranging stuff. It's been chilly the past couple of days, so having trouble getting motivated to get out there.

Ordered some new 15x9 and 15x8 SSRs for her and sold my 13x8s.

SS18 coverage by Japanese Nostalgic Car is up!

I'm at the bottom of the page...w00t!

That's AWESOME! Nice props fm.

I can't believe those Angel Motorsports guys drove that REPU all the way out there. That couldn't have been a comfortable ride...

x2. I only drove 700 miles round trip and my fillings were starting to come out by the end of the trip. I can only imagine what it must have been like to come from VA.

Today, j9d3s came over tuned the Weber. With the jets we used, I was running pig rich. Ended up going from a 235 main jet to a 195 main jet. The idle jet isn't quite right either, but we weren't able to deal with that. I'll pick up a couple of new idle jets and swap those in myself.

The car is really close. Not running rich anymore. No more coughing, sputtering between 2000-4500 rpms at part throttle. Feels really good.

The next time he comes out, we are planning on taking it to the dyno, working with the AFR just a little more as well as with the timing.

Also, thanks to j9, I have an LCA to replace the one I have w/a worn out ball joint. It's astonishing that it's worn out as it's essentially a new LCA I picked up from Atkins when I first bought the car 3 years ago. I noticed the ball joint was bad right before SS18. At that time, I had no more than 200 miles on the car.

Anyway, I'll be replacing that sometime this week.

Lucky You! especially if it's leather. I've been watching for a set of maroon leather door cards in excellent shape. Mine are OK, but not perfect.

^Nice!

The past two evenings, I replaced my passenger side lower control arm. Ball joint is now nice and solid. Yay! Whenever my new wheels and tires arrive (in a couple of months), I'll be ready for auto-x again.

Got good news from Josh today...my dash is done.

I had a new stereo receiver installed, along with an amp, subwoofer, and antenna. Also had it re-tinted (3rd tint job in 30 years). I had installed the previous stereo and antenna myself roughly 10 years ago, and it was nice to have someone else do it, although damn expensive.

They managed to flood the car so bad I had to have the spark plugs replaced (thanks Rotary Performance for quick fix)... Again I could have done myself as I had previously, but was in no mind to do a complex unflood in a car stereo installers shop...

Now for paint. It was last painted nearly 20 years ago, and apparently prices have doubled since then... I am going to have put enough $ in this car within just a few weeks that I won't want to drive it.

This all started last Monday when some jackass rear-ended me on the tollway and drove off. So I got serious about fixing up what was looking its age...

Last night, I wired together my custom Speedhut gauges. It was pretty straight-forward as they gave me a couple of harnesses that allowed me to daisy-chain them together. It got to be too late for me to do any more with the gauges/dash today, so I test fit my modified airbox. The hood closes with about a cat's whisker's clearance. I can remove the phenolic spacers and I'll have plenty of room. I'll bring the airbox back to Josh for the final glassing and paint on Monday. I'll hopefully get the gauges installed by Monday.

Made the jump from 14x6 to 15x7 yesterday, with 195-55-15 tires. Really fills out the wheel wells. Went to the Friday night little meet.

I went to HF and got a car alarm. This way if someone gets in my car I can bust out of my house with the 20ga screaming gibberish in my underwear. That will scare the bejesus out of any would be car thief.

That would be quite terrifying! I like my XDm for that situation though, much smaller and holds many more rounds than my shotgun.

I suppose I should someday get back to working on my 7's...maybe

They are the flares listed here: JDM Fender Flares New Universal Corolla KE70 AE86 KP61 MR2 Datsun ZG 4 Pcs | eBay

They are pretty well made, and very flexible.

Fitment doesnt need much work at all to make fit, lol.

Never fired my shotgun in anger, but one time some hooligans were ruffing up my neighbor*. All I had to do was walk outside and shuck it once...... all eyes were on me.

Sometimes the threat of power is effective enough. Nuclear weapons???

I'm more concerned about my wideband and cheap yet fancy looking $80 stereo. but it would be mad maxy "touch those tanks and kaboom"

*turns out my neighbor wanted to fight. I told him, "you know he's bigger than you"; and he still wanted to fight so I tipped my hat and walked back inside. and watched him get pulverized.

Do they rub anywhere? Stock suspension? offset?
I ask b/c I just bought 15x7s and can't make up my mind what size tire I want.

I don't know the offset. When I got them I saw that the dish was close to an inch deeper than the 14x6's, which makes sense. I kinda feared some rubbing, which kept me at the 195 width. The springs are fresh stock springs (5 years, 35,000 miles) cut 1/2 coil front 3/4 coil rear. I don't know the offset. When turning quickly into a driveway incline I have some rubbing on the fender. I haven't noticed any in somewhat spirited cornering on normal pavement.
My next move is to install a set of BG springs I've had in the shed. That should reduce somewhat the incidence of rubbing.

it depends a little. Mazda would put a 205 on a 7" wheel, and then a 225 on an 8" and so on, its actually one thing they have been really consistent about for a really long time (starts with the FC in fact).

we have found that, if you're racing, its faster with a little stretch, so 205 on an 8" wheel is good, but 205 on a 9" wheel was even better. the hoosiers do run wide, so a 205 hoosier is like a 225 in any other tire.

so i'd go 195's, although 205 would be ok too.

Interesting info.

Why is the slight stretch faster?

Also would going with a 60 sidewall versus 55 help/hurt/no difference? Clearance
issues?
