Finished up the s4 intake swap on the SA. Slight increase in mid-top end power. Smoother bottom end. Better throttle response. Smoother idle. Smoother startup. Surprisingly it has a much smoother and deeper tone and a bit more of a scream to it at WOT. I can now brake the rear tires loose shifting into 3rd gear at highway speed. My next upgrades will have to be better sway bars, front strut bar, stainless hydraulic lines, and stickier tires to cope with the 70 extra horsepower over the stock 12A.

BTW I used stock RENESIS part on my intake swap. Its a rotary break through...

Found some pinholes in my gas tank, this is the back side of the piece that I cut out





Welded in the patch, grinder welds, and went over it with panel bond

lol, yeah, the P port is picky, and with a carb you start with the idle, and work your way up. so if the jet isn't right, you know right away

I can't wait either. Yesterday, with the dash out of the way, I pulled the front carpet and sound deadening. I'm leaving the factory floor sound deadening as I don't feel like spending $100 of dry ice to chip it off. I'll just paint over it. The weight savings I got from taking the sound deadening out of the back, plus the easy to remove rubber stuff under the dash/firewall area was only 10 lbs anyway. I might save another 10 if I remove the stuff under the seats, the rear bin area, and the front floorboards, but I can't be bothered.

Started cleanup of the floorboards this evening, removing the stuck on wooly sound deadener off with a drill w/wire wheel. That worked really well. Will continue work on it tomorrow. Hopefully will be able to start rolling on the paint this weekend.

Lots of good work done recently. I brought a bunch of parts back from Socal for the RX...

-New dizzy cap and rotor
-New side fender emblems
-Some new interior trim
-Rubber ducky antenna
-Misc other things
-RB long primary street port exhaust

I have a bunch of other parts to install soon, including sway bar end links, tension rod bushings, complete cooling system overhaul (All OEM hoses, Tstat, CSF rad etc etc).

i have been rock crawling toyota trucks for a while and had some spare front hub parts, i machined an adapter for rx strut to toyota spindle, machined the toyota spindle ID to press on the rx spindle OD and bolted it together, i know i have a lot more unsprung weight but i got the bigger rotors and bearings, so i put a toyota rear in so my bolt patterns all match and i have a huge selection of wheels to choose from,

Looking for opinions on what would work with this...

 

Nice interior! We need more pictures of the inside. BTW 17sand 18s are way too big unless your doing a widebody. 15s and 16s are the way to go.

Wow...that is awesome. I read in a JNC article on the Daytona SA22C that they had used Toyota spindles and calipers. I wondered which one it came from. But those weren't 6-bolt.

Last night, more wire wheeling the goobers off the passenger floorboard. Need to do the driver's side next. Still on target for laying down paint over the weekend...I hope.

Washed her up, installed the replica IMSA GTU sticker, began swapping out bolts in engine bay for chrome "flush mount washers". They look SO techy.

Stance Coilovers are going on Sunday, along with Moog idler arm. One more week until Old School Reunion - don't worry I'll take lots of pics

 

Went to an excellent meet-up today, and had a great time.

Car is now full of little yellow blossoms off the tree I was parked under. Normally I'd be ticked off at the work cleaning them out, but they look kind'a festive.

Please, please post more pics of your interior. I'm trying to convince myself to stay with a gray interior in my car but I don't know if I'll be able to resist it now with those pictures. I want to swap to black so badly and would love to know how you did it so cleanly!

 

I didn't do anything productive to my car today, just updated the build thread and revealed that I'll be going with gold and black engine colors. Gold front cover, rotor housings and bellhousing with black irons. I thought the gold would be a good pun for how expensive the rotor housings are - "worth their weight in gold" was the expression that came to mind. Even though that would make the housings worth thousands upon thousands of dollars at today's rate, still a somewhat relevant reference in my mind.

On a wicked side note, has anyone noticed the severe onslaught of new threads in the first gen technical section? I don't know if that means we are getting more FB owners or what - but I like it!
Honestly, it's probably because most of them make me remember when I was new to rotaries. Sort of nostalgic in a way, reading through people's questions about these cars that I have had and still have to this day.

 

Got a couple of extra hours to work on the car today, so I finished up prepping the interior for paint. I'll be rolling on the primer tomorrow night. Hopefully the base coat will go on Monday or Tuesday. Then I'll start putting the wiring back in, rig up the cluster w/o the dash in place, and hope this thing starts again.

DreamInRotary, your car looks awesome as always. The IMSA sticker looks really good. I'm very fortunate in that my original sticker was completely intact and still looks great. The other day I pulled out the dash and thought about all the work we put into that stereo. I'm a little sad to see it go, but seriously, you can't hear anything over that PP now anyway. Especially at full song.

Two axles broken in a month. Shredded another ring and pinion. I'm out of spare axles now, too.

Took these at the same time as the others...not the greatest but show some diff angles.

Black carpet: got lucky, found brand new black carpet set on ebay someone had had made from 1st gen original--2-piece front cabin, plus the rear hatch area. When it comes time to replace, I'll do the same thing.

Red LEDs for gauges, bright blue LEDs for cabin and rear. LEDs for brakelights and stoplights also.

Door panels are actually GSL-SE, but in perfect condition. Debating whether to replace gray carpet at the bottom with black.

Recovered kickpanels and dash panels in black.

Also found fully intact dark gray windshield defroster vents.

Black 1st gen floormats from JasonS, Group Buy; awesome quality.

SEM prep and paint on plastic interior parts.

Never found a rearview mirror that wasn't "infected" so had a bunch of them resilvered.

PO had found and installed perfect black dash.
