For me it was a street race. I was in my 67 Impala going down the freeway when a 240z and RX-3 were going at is and blew right past me and the RX-3 shifted blew a huge fireball and kept pulling away. The sound and fire as it passed was like love at first site. I didn't even know what and import car was until then. I had grown up in a Ford and had owned about 6 impalas up to that point. I chased down the car only to read Mazda on the back and RX-3 on the corner before he downshited and pulled away from me. "Guess he thought I was trying to race him". I went home to tell my Dad what I wanted to do and he told me no. "MAZDAS ARE UNRELIABLE." Well almost 9 years after that I finally got my RX-4 and the rest is history.

Life Long Decision...

4 reason's why I've chosen the Mazda Rotary:

1) The sound.

2) The aesthetic. ( rx2, 3, and 7 )

3) Wankel's rotary engineering concept.

4) Smell a.k.a " Rotary Cologne".

With these reasons in mind, I made a life long decision to remain dedicated to the rotary regardless of negative assumptions people presume to be true. When you love something, you stick with it. 1999 is when I had my first "official" introduction to a Rotary. My buddy Asim owned an Rx2, loud as ****, stinky and clean on the exterior. The 2 had no interior, but he still found a way to brap around the street's. Curiosity got the best of me and being that we were friends anyway, I began to ask more and more questions about the car and what made it move.

10 years later, Im still down. Present day my plans shift and I'll be making my transition from the street's to the track, I think Mr. Wankel would dig that

well I got mine because I wanted a sexy looking RWD it looks better than a 240sx to me and it's a different kind of engine. Plus my dad owned a first gen and a second gen and you know when I was a young kid it was super fast and cool to me and it still is so when I had the chance to but a car for the first time that's what i went with.

Wink

I had 3000GT Spyder VR4 before and it is good looking and all rare as well but I wanted performance car and lightweight.

I was always skeptical about rotary and how the combustion takes place. I was challenged since I am a shadetree mechanic. Everyone is saying that rotaries are lemon, tempermental, unreliable and yada yada yada. So I sold my spyder for a rotary since they are also somewhat rare car.

I became an enthusiast and had a love and hate relationship since I had rotary. Did my own overhaul and it is pretty easy, cheap and abundant on OEM/aftermarket parts.

But dont get me wrong I still love piston engine. If I have the budget I will definitely put LS7 engine on my FD. Don't hate!

Hey why is it majority of the people replied here are from SoCal. Cmon Yay area where is the love.

^aggreed.

my first exposure to a rotary was when my dad had a Repu. it was Stinky and looked awsome. then he sold it for dirt cheap. 6 years later in 03 when the rx8 came out. i saw a commercial about the rotary rx8 which cought my attention.. so i asked my pops and he said, its garbage, thats why he sold the truck. i said that truck had a rotary?. He kept telling that mazda is unreliable. to get a nissan. which i did, but i would always see rx7s and they would always beat me. so i was like **** it. traded my car for a 7. and ive been happy since.

I bought an RX-7 because deep down I hate myself, and have a latent desire to end up destitute.

Getting back on target, like I told you on myspace when we talked.

I had an engineering class, had heard of the concept there.

Auto repair class for a few weeks, heard even more about it there. I was like "WTF" because of how different it was.

And...3 years later I got heavily involved into reading this forum and posting, and obsessed with FC's.

4 and a half years later, I got my first FC in August, 2008.

I'm never going back.
