I didn't really know anything bout the 2nd gen. RX-7 but it had some cool taillights. Lol. But after learning about the uniqueness of the rotary engine I fell in love with the car. Now I'm in it for the long haul with a rebuilt motor and happy face.

i like them for the unique gear oil smell in the interiori always owned mustangs most of my life, still do.but it was ten years ago i was driving my 68 fastback mustang and this rx3 pulled up next to me at a light and just blew me away.then i got me a rotary to see what they are all about and stuck with them.
now i build motors,do swaps, and convert the older rx's to fuel injection running the 2nd gen E.C.U,and in the process in building my own cars.any work involved with a rotary im doing it.

I got into the 7 scene mainly because I was very intrigued by the rotary engine. Hell the hole reason I ended up really getting into cars was because of the rotary engine. When I picked up my first FC I had all intention of just using it until I had enough money for an FD. But after driving the FC for awhile I fell in love. As someone else on the forum said, it does what I want when I want.

I was just turning 16 when the RX-7 came on the scene, so naturally I was car-crazy at the time; I remember the TV ads with the piston cars going "boing boing boing" & thinking that the car looked really cool. But it was a fairly long time before I ever actually saw one. Omaha was not the sports-car capital of the world; I doubt I saw a -7 in the skin any time prior to 1980 or so.
What actually led to me buying my SA was more complicated, but it was driven mainly by a lawn chair.
After my '73 Satellite finally blew up in the late 80's, I didn't have money enough for a car, but had to have a way to get from Van Nuys to Chatsworth every day for work. So, I bought a Honda Helix scooter, and rode that damn thing to work on the freeway every day for a couple years, rain, shine, whathaveyou.
Then, one day riding home from work south on the 405, a pickup truck 2 cars ahead ov me lost a lawn chair out of the truck bed. The car in front of me ran over it and kicked it up in the air, right in front of me. It took my windshield off as I was crouched down behind the fairing.
This convinced me that using a bike for a daily driver was not survival-oriented; whenever you're in a situation where lawn furniture can kill you, you're doing something wrong.
So in 1989 I was looking for an affordable used car, and I wanted something quick, sharp-looking, and unique.
I ran across my SA at a used-car "swap meet" up in Northridge; It was in pretty good shape, though the seats were thrashed. But once the guy fired it up and revved it, and took me for a quick test drive, I was hooked.
Cost me $1400; I basically learned to drive stick on the way home.
I've had the car 20 years this summer.

For me it was the fact that an FD was one of the few choices in SMOG **** Cali for a SMOG compliant RWD sports car with a turbocharged engine. After I got the car I fell in love with the handling, the interior, and the exterior.

why rotary
I blame my love for the old schools on my uncle this fool use to buy them and fix them up and the next day it seemed that he was racing them in the alleys outside the estrada courts. Then he managed to get a right hand drive rx3 and since then I have loved old school rotaries. Now this guy gets mad everytime he sees my r100 saying that all they do is get you in trouble. However, when he saw my repu I truly believe he came back to the rotary scene because he volunteered to do all the work on the repu and he wanted to drive it around for a while he said.

It was the handling, engine, styling, light weight, uniqueness - the entire package.
At the time of my first FD, I was already tired of building up my 96 MX-6 V6. The more money I spent to make it faster, the more and more wheelspin and understeering I got. It was just frustrating, and the money I spent didn't appreciably increase the car's performance.
I was like people who see the car today, fixated or saying to each other "O ****, that's an RX-7!" when they see it. I've always wanted one, so I saved up and got one.

Because I grew up riding in the back seat of my mom's RX-7. No joke. Now I drive that sucker today because it was waiting for me to turn 16 as it sat in my driveway. Since then I've fallen in love, and even picked up a twin FC for when my brother turns 16.

Growing up, it was one of the top japanese sports cars stateside.. in the likes of 300zx, supra, rx7, nsx, to some extent including the 3000gt, starion etc....
The Z, Supra, and 7 have been some childhood favorites of mine. The japanese tuning scene helps as well.... Theres passion behind it, i know some people on this forum think its rice. But the tuning scene goes back pretty deep. Tuning is an art, passion of mine. When i select parts, only good quality stuff will do, I would hold off on cheap parts.
Those cars where never trend cars, unlike hondas which are stupidly popular out here , and sadden its grown onto the 240sx *which once had a great community in my opinion before the explosion of driftwankstas, lowballers and knock off parts*

1992 20 years old I drooled over the FD. But at 40K it was way out my league. Continued with college and I graduated. Couple of years after graduation (1998) I decided it was time to go car shopping.
Test drove a TT supra, 300 ZX, camaro, and an M3. I was quite unsure about what kind of car i wanted so it was a tough choice. All I knew was that I just wanted something nicer than my bucket. So one afternoon I came upon a private party ad selling a 93 rx-7 so i though huh why not I've always thought they were really nice... Placed a call went to go see the car that afternoon. Drove it and i was instantly sold. Made the deal that same afternoon. Prior to that day I had no idea the car was a rotary... lol
10 years 9 months and another FD later I STILL love this damn car to death.
