if it only makes the noise when the clutch is disengaged(pedal to the floor) it should be just the pilot bearing. they could have installed the old one by mistake(dont know how) or they forgot to grease it up a little. if they said to take it back, then do so. they did something wrong then they have to fix it. just like you had to fix your mess.

Ben, the seats look really nice. I like those! And looks like I made a mistake about the BOV valve thing. I am still used to FD stuff. On FD's it doesn't make a difference. And it won't make a difference in my car sometime around December. I should have my brackets made up for the V-mount setup too by then. I decided to go that route because 1. It works better and 2. since I'm making it myself it will end up being a lot cheaper then buying a FMIC. Looks like the TII is getting all kinds of custom little toys soon.

Well it's faster because it is manual but also cuz of my 9.5lb flywheel. Quick revs!

think you would notice a difference if you get your flywheel resurfaced? don't they cut away through the surface to smoothen it? just like a brake lathe...

nope, they only take off a small amount. you can lighten the stock flywheel by having a machine shop remove material from it at certain areas that will not weaken the plate. most lightweight flywheels have large holes drilled in them to drop weight and add in cooling of the surface.

Yea i'm not sure what the noise is exactly but the clutch shop is going to adjust the pedal for free tomorrow and i'm going to complain about the sound and see what they say. Maybe they'll have a good answer for me. On another note, my speedo and temp gauge aren't working. I'm more concerned about the temp gauge although the car seems to be working very well. Doesn't seem overly heated or anything and no spills, which is good. anyways i'm off to bed after a long day of working and finally enjoying the fruits of mine (and others) hard labor. Thanks again to ben and dan for all their help!

Nick,

I'm not going twin turbo. I'll end up selling or scrapping the twins that will be coming with my RE motor. I'm going to run a fairly small single. Looking at the T04E, RX-6, or GT35R. I don't know which one yet, but I'm trying to weigh the advantages and disadvantages to all of them. We'll see when the time comes.

Hey everybody its Tim... you know the guy with the big yellow banana. I didnt want to show up at the last meet with out my car cause seeing everyone else's 7s would have just made me more depressed than I already was. Heres my sad sad story of my awesome (piece of ****) 7...

I blew an apex seal because the previous owner of my car took shitty care of it. Turns out a bunch of vaccum lines were busted... which was kind of ironic since that weekend my friend and I were going to replace them all. Anyways, as shitty timing and luck would have it my motor just couldnt take it anymore.

I then took it to my good friends shop to have the apex seal replaced. After a month he just decided it would be better for me to get a new motor put in and I agreed. He had some fuckjob come and try to do the motor swap (I knew this guy was coming and he was supposedly a guy that was good at mazdas but it turns out he just sucked at life and didnt want to or know how to work on my car). So that ate up another month of my time. Then the owner of the shop let his "master mechanic" father in law try and put the motor in... To make a long story longer, basically my car was pretty much never touched. They replaced the spark plugs, wires, and oil filter hoping that would do the trick... guess what it didnt.

I had gone to mazda in the middle of this fiasco to see exactly how much it was going to cost just to get a brand new motor put in my car. The dumbshit service advisor said that I needed to talk to a mechanic so he brought one out. This dumb ******* mechanic didnt know his head from a ****** hole in the ground and told me it was going to cost about 25,000 dollars for the whole thing. YES! you heard me 25,000 (three 0's one 2 and a 5) He said that mazda did not allow rebuilds and the only thing they could do is replace the motor and the tranny and the turbos and the hoses and the plumbing and the exhaust etc... I told him he was so ******* full of **** and I hope he burns in hell and loses his job. Not about replacin the motor, just about lying about the cost.

Anyways! When my dad heard that he just about **** a brick and called some head honchos of mazda saying basically what the **** are you guys thinking not wanting to work on a car that you sell and blah blah blah. We got it all straightened out and now my car is over at mazda. When i went over there everyone was acting real nice towards me and stuff. So now its at mazda getting a new motor put in and all tha fancy stuff and its going to cost about 6600 bucks. My dad is "taking care of it" and my car should be back on the road within the next week or two.

Hope you had fun reading my novel.

bring it to me next time...

i hope mazda can do the job right the first time. read around the forums and you will see not a whole lot of people have great to say about the dealer on older cars such as ours, not always the case but hearing your story really tells me this guy has no clue what he is doing..

btw, i might be putting a little somethin' extra in my car before the autocross/meet. until then i aint telling you what it is.

that is sad. you should have went to my shop. i think they would have found you a rebuilt engine for less than 5k, not sure how much install would cost you though. but i have seen an fd, an fc and 2 sa/fb in the shop for major work. not alot but a few come in every now and then. i heard the rebuild at rick's rotary cost around 8k. quite a bit of money but they do have the reputation.

anyway, hope everything works out for you. it's sad that i am associated with the brand but not all dealerships/personnel are (insert preferred adjective).

it's not that dealership techs are ignorant, he just wanted to blow you out of the place (i speak from experience because i have seen fellow techs and advisors give insane estimates also to discourage people from having work done). most dealer techs simply do not have the training to work on specialty lines or engines such as a rotary.

btw, i'm working on opening a rotary specialty shop in the near future, if you would like to see it happen bring your business to a local.

Nice ben got 6th and Bob got 5th in their classes. Good job guys! If I read the positions right hehe I hope to be on there next time!

Anyways the tranny shop is going to be pulling my tranny out again, on tuesday. They think it is the throw out bearing or something to do with the clutch fork? Who knows for sure. I'm also having trouble getting my speedo, temp gauge, oil gauge, and odometer to work. the only gauges that work are tach and gas. Actually my oil gauge seems to be working but it just sits at over 120 and doesn't move so i doubt it is working correctly. I don't know exactly what to do, i've been tapping into wires trying to find the right one but it doesn't appear to be working. I'll be trying again tomorrow or until i get it to work.
