California Smog Tech Here... N E Q's?
Hey Fuman
So if you are pulled over by the cops for a given reason under what cercumstances would you have to pop your hood. Would you have the right to say yes/no if you wanted.
The reason I ask is because I thought you had to give permission to the cop to search you car. I know if there is something visable in the car that attracks there attention they do not have to ask. But does under your hood, passenger compartment, and trunk all apply to this same right?
If you could help me understand that, that would be great.
Thanks

Modified exhaust or any kind of modified part can give the officer enough probable cause to search under your hood. If you refuse, that is enough for the car to be impounded until a search warrant can be obtained.

actually they changed it.. my us gov teacher says congress usually leans in the way with helping cops safely do their jobs blah blah.. so i think they can just open what they want am i wrong?
Pretty much. I am not sure if this is right, but I herd that telling a cop "NO" he cant search your car gives him enough reason to do so. Is that bullshit? cause it sounds like it.
& Its soo much easier to do what the officer says and please him. He can **** you if he wants in almost any situation. The easiest way to do it is to just bullshit him. Tell him that u bought the right parts w/ CARB # and they are just at home waiting upon installation. He may know your bullshitting but its better than being an *** to him.

Well ....illegally registered right? Not with an SR? He had to go through some bull **** or hook ups to get it registered right?

yes it does. Like DUI. buying time helps. Take the breath analyzer at the station. So BULLSHIT stays, rrroookiieeee
Ya it ussually costs like $100 and u gotta leave it with them for a day. Its ussually within 2 weeks of the citation.
V8? Which one? Give me details on what u had to do? Im really interested in what you had to go through. With the car & the Referee. What car? FC or FD?

And people wonder
why cops get stereotyped as arrogant? Total respect for the boys in the black and whites, but sometimes a reality check is in order.
Going off subject to call foul on the totally out of line thread pollution courtesy of the FU man.
I just read through this 10 page thread as this subject that caught my interest as it clearly did so many others. But, it was really irritating to have to wade through Fumanchu's self righteous has to get the last word in pollution to this thread.
The guy was nice enough to start a thread worthy of archive, share insightful knowledge from his training that by the length of this thread so many on this forum have high interest to learn, and you have make such a big deal about a hear say comment that at the worst just puts an exclamation point that he was making? No problem with you correcting the observation. But Dude, how many times were you asked to then drop it, or at least re-focus your comments back to the subject of the thread?
Back on subject of pollution control, I can think of a very good alternative installation for a catalytic converter to achieve that goal.

And if it's a complete '88 TII set up into my '88 Vert right down to the emission stickers, I still need to leave it with a referee for a day to get it inspected and signed off to avoid issues on future smog checks? And that costs about $100?
So, it's either a tank of gas or get it signed off. That's the one bit of information i was looking for to make sure this project of mine is complete. Thanks.

*** on Pacman and cut the BS with the civil code (you're making it obvious that you're a rookie, fresh off boot-camp). We all got to bite a bullet to play.

Hey! Whatever, its cool. No big deal. Lets just get back onto subject. HEY LT-x7. U doin the v8 in an FC? Gimme details on what you've done and what you still have to do to make it legal? Im just curious ion the details on what you have to do.
Sellinga7. See he's got a BAR label right? In the door panel? That means its all been checked & ok'd by a Ref. The DMV now knows that he has done the swap.

"I could have sworn that turbo and NA models were not differentiated in DMV records or smog tests so why would it matter?"
I very curious to the answer of this.
"You can ask me 100 times to drop it, but frankly I could give a rats ***."
Your Honor, ladies and gentlemen of the Jury. I rest my case.

In my case I need about everything. My car will become a track only car if I can't find a way around smog.
My major problem is I have a 95 LT1 that came with a 6-speed behind it. I have a old school 700R4, the LT1 was never offered with the 700R4 only the 4L60. So to make it carb leagal I need a 4L60 with the 95 auto wiring harness and pcm.
Also my egr valve hit the fire wall. So I need to relocate it, and I'm not sure how the ref will like that.
There is also a lot of other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head.
Your car doen't get impounded for being modified. I just got pulled over for loud exhaust even though it is way below 95db. He popped my hood and saw my hks intake and I didn't have a CARB sticker in it at the time. You just get a ticket to go to the referee station.
I think I am going to go to court and bring the carb documentation and my ticket signed off by a CHP for the exhaust and see if I can avoid the ref. station.
Anyone been to the referee station? What is the process like? Do they actually smog test the car as well as do a visual?
