ya but the reason why i want to do this is because i can run around town day or night with it running a cat so it would make it quieter and if i wanted a n exta 15hp i could just hit a swick and be running open exaust. i figured it wouldnt pass the visual but if a cop decided to take a look under my car (if he knew what he was lookin for) and can see a cat under there i could avoid a ticket. ill get around to doing this sooner or later just need to go and barow my friends welder.

Well any mods to the CAT are highly illegal. In Cali if u take out the cat or gut the cat U can actually recieve a fine of up to $30K. & Ya I see that ur suposed to look that its the right pizza. But there is a lil difference. As a smog tech we actually work for the state. I carry a state license. I get fined, heavily if i dont do my job right. I understand that ur manager might be disapointed in u if u gave someone a cheese pizza if they ordered a pepperoni, but... if i illegally smog an illegal car i can be put in prison for 6 months a have my home reposesed and be fined up to $80K & that is no joke. I understand that it might work perfectly. But visually, it will never pass. Thats why u need someone u know in the buisness. I will fail anybody for anything like that, especially if i dont know them. The BAR (BUREAU OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR) Does send undercover cars to be smoged on a regular basis to shops. They know if they are supose to pass or fail & exactly what for. They want to make sure we are doing our jobs right.

ya i understand i knew that a setup ike that wouldnt pass, and about the pizza delivery thing ur absolutely right, just thought it would be kinda funny to say, i cant believe that the state is that **** about smoging and those fees are insane, i guess any way for the state to make money with out actualy doing anything.

oh, its absolutly rediculous! THat how I deive my 7 too. STRAIGHT PIPES. I have a resonator where the cat would be. Its stainless steel so it kinda looks like a high flow cat. & I can get away with it by just talkin to the officer and tellin him, hey I'm a smog tech, I know what Im talkin about and blah blah blah. So i can kinda get away with it. But really a cop just doesnt give a ticket for not having a cat anyways, If he does decide to look under the car and doesnt meet his satisfaction, he will write a ticket and u will be forced to take ur car to a ref and have him look at it for the courts. But that give u ussually 2 weeks to have a cat put in. But there are all kinds of loopholes. All u need is to know someone, thats all it takes. The more people u know, in different places, the easier u can get away with things

haha thats funny, well ive never had a cop pull me over to look under my hood but im sure it will happen one day, cops hate imports, i cant wait til my generation becomes cops and doesnt pull over imports and instead pulls over muscle cars, that would be funny.

that would be a drem come true. I've have my hood popped 3 times, & threatened 3 times, but nothin ever happend. Well that was before the front mount & T-60. but anyways CHP told me that he could slap a sticker on my windsheild and I would have to drive my car home and I wouldnt be able to drive until I reffed it. FOR MY AIR FILTER! its bullshit, I laughed and told him that I was a smog tech and I'll fight his *** in court anyday. CHP knows whats illegal & not. Or they have some sort of idea. Regular cops or sherifs have no clue whats illegal or not. CHP gets trained for that ****. They know what a b16, or a SR20 is. & what a front mount is or a aftermarket turbo looks like. I don't know.......there will always be prejudice against us & imports. There are too many redneck hilbillies that love their V8s....& unfortunatly those are the ******* that become cops

They used to make it, and this kit used to be legal, but the kit u by from Greddy, or "TRUST COMPANY LTD" or whatever say right on the box. "NOT LEGAL FOR SALE OR USE ON CALIFORNIA VEHICLES" Thats why t doesnt come with and engraved CARB #s or stickers. Buy it and read the box, I've already done it, a couple of times

Now that was quit a few years before this new smog program. & Im sure greddy has made some minor changes since then. That kit isnt available anywhere. Non probably exist anymore.

I remember wasting $120 on smog, my car failed visual like 2 times. Dumb smog tech! There was no modification to my car.

hey no prob. Im not disagreeing with anybody here niether. It is just a bunch of CRAP. SO much should be legal, but its not. & A lot of the older smog techs dont know a lot of the new rules. There were a lot of new rules added in the past 4 years or so. & A lot of smog techs will pass some light mods, especially ones that dont really make a difference. & thats a good thing because it makes it more fair to us. But if one wanted to be as strict as he could be a front mount without carb # wouldnt pass. All im trying to say is that, without real CARB #s its not SUPOSE to pass. But many Techs look over that and for more important things. There are sooo many mods that we can do to improve many things on our cars that dont make any significant difference at the sniffer. Its just the air quailty and smog here has gotten so horible that they want to be strict at each and every point that they can to clean up the air as fast & as much as possible. They want to take care of the smallest possibility of any emissions. From your PCV, to your evap, to the gas cap. Its all bullshit. But they can measure it some how, & then multiply it by the millions of cars here in california & they come up with some kind of #s. I mean more emissions come from a clean cars tail pipe at idle for 5min than a car could with no pcv in a lifetime. <--exageration

i dunno if this has been answered, but i have a single turbo and if any cop pulled me over and popped my hood i'd be in deep ****...but i have a cat (bonez hi-flow) pretty good for how much it reduced the smell of gas but its nowhere near smog passable. ~~ okay what i was wondering is if a cop pulls me over and sends me to get ref'd (would they send me to a ref or take my car?) what is the deal with paying the fine? is there a situation where you can pay it, and one where you have to have your car re-inspected? any info on this one (i know its not exactly related to smog) would be greatly appreciated.

Well its up to the cop. If he pulled u over bacause he though u had illegal mods & wanted to give u a ticket, He would slap a sticker on ur car & ur not allowed to drive it, U'd have to take it home, make an appointment with ur local reff, and pay him around $100 for the day to give you some kind of certificate or somehtin to take to the courts to prove that u fixed everything within 2 weeks. Or.... If the cop pulled u over for speeding or, doin somethin else illegal he might just impound the car. The courts will have it inspected. And they will tell u that u can pay like $1500 to get it out of impound and then u have to weeks to get weverything smog legal. Or non-op the car & have it be a track only car. Or they will crush it. Its up tho them. A friend pof mine have their 89 CRX crushed for having a B16. It all depends what kind of mood the cop is in really. He can either just site u for it. (fix it ticket- go see referee) or Impound it.

The smog check program is almost doing nothing to make the air cleaner. It is all the new cars on the road, all the old polluting clunkers are almost non existant.

Facts, Facts. Facts. It's all in the facts. I've seen facts. What do u consider newer cars? 2001 have to be smogged now. Is that not new enough for u? & Yes its up to the cop if hes wants to impound ur car or not. Is it not? who else is it up to? Im just stating the 2 road that would happen if a cop wanted to bust someone for aftermarket mods. The air quality in California has improved greatly in the past few years. U may not want to admit it but it has. LA used to be horrible, now its not as bad as it was 3 or 4 years ago. FACTS... an average of 100 ton of "smog" is removed from California air everyday. But another fact is that one single volcano eruption causes more pollutants that man has ever created combined. The smog may be bullshit, & unfair, & stupid but its all there for a reason. & there is nothing anyone can do about it. It is only gonna get more strict.

You mentioned it was up to the cop about impounding and destroying cars which is 100% false. Yes, a cop can impound it for violations of certain vehicle codes, but that is it. I also call bullshit on the story about your friend getting his car crushed by the cops. You just need to quit posting in this thread before the hole you are digging get's too deep. Trust me.

cops just need to stop bothering young adults with their cars and actualy be productive. and go after people who are actualy comiting crimes. there was a small fight after i got off work in a raleys parking lot and i swear to god that there must have at least been 10-15 cop cars in a town that has 90k people living in it, it proly would have taken 3 maybe 4 cops to break up a fight but noooo every one wants to see the action, and then 2 min after i was drivin down the road after geting off work and i got pulled over and his dumb *** excuse was that my trailor hitch on my truck was in the way of one of my lisence plate #'s what total bullshit! no ticket tho.
