Photos from the 03/04/14 OGTA Meeting

It was chilly, and it's still getting dark early down here in Georgia, but a good turnout of hardy rotor heads made this another OGTA to remember.

The 12A count was 7.25:

1 RX-2 = 2 12A's (Jeremy)
1 RG5 - 2 12A's (Crit)
2 FBs = 2 12A's (Chase, Aaron)
2 FCs = 1 12A (Syn, Blake)
2 FEs = 0.25 12A's (Holly, Tommy)

There were a bunch of new guys, standing in front of Aaron's SE are, left to right, Syn, Chase's friend, Aaron and Chase:

Here's Chase's FB, a vintage '81 painted an unusual minty blue-green, and it looks great:

Another shot of Aaron's SE, I wish I had a better shot of those wheels, they look like they came off a moon rover:

Here's Crit's RG5, which he road to the meeting with the temps in the 30's, he's one tough dude:

Here's Jeremy's RX-2, pride of the OGTA organization:

Here's New Guy Syn, with his dolled up FB:

And here's Blake's FC, same car, with performance mods only:

Tommy was there with is FE, which is starting to get Old (that's a good thing):

Holly was there too in her FE, but she came too late for me to get a good picture.

Geraldo showed up in his MX2, nice car that:

And Brett brought his new BMW, which promptly started to fall apart in the parking lot, right on cue:

Nice pictures, Ray! Chase's friend was Vincent. And I thought Crit's bike was a RE5, not RG5?

Glad I got to see you guys again, hopefully the April 1st meet will be warmer!

Properly noted Brett, Vincent is the second from the left:

I hope all those New Guys show up for the April meeting.

Sorry to screw up on the 12A count, it looked like a G to me

Obviously I fail as a secretary and we need to find someone more qualified.

I nominate Crit. Here's are his notes from last night:

Long time no see Dre. I think I met you at Zoomfest in 08 or 09.

I think there is a mountain run in store for this Sunday. A few BMW guys and maybe some rotaries but anyone is welcome to come. The time might change but right now it's looking like 2 PM this Sunday, meeting at the Dahlonega home depot here and doing about an hour and a half drive through the mountains.

Maybe a drive like this

Great meet last night. Looking forward to April. Solid job reporting Ray, but you missed the 2 SAs (SkyActive) vehicles.

Howdy

OGTA's Cool.

Got a question. I meet the old guy criteriua, had my 1980 LS since 1990, but she has an RX4 four port 13B. What is the 12A equivalency of that? Bummer is that it isn't on the road at this time which has to knock it down a lot. Anyone in your neck of the woods ever fuel inject a four port?

Just came across this thread and it really caught my eye. We are up the road a bit in that metropolis of Pelzer SC - not to be confused with West Pelzer! The turbo won't start and we can't drive the race cars on the street. Only Mazda I've got running at the moment is my bone stock 91 Miata. Ever allow Miatas' on your drives?

All that and you live in Sparkle City! My 13B is a 74 as well. What induction system do you have? I had the RB Holley kit with manifold and it worked well for a lot of years. Been trying to adapt a TurboII intake to this engine so that I could fuel inject it but haven't made a whole lot of progress. More differences than I imagined between the 4 port RX4 and the 4 port TurboII engine.

won't be able to do the upcoming drive as we hope to go to that Motor Sport expo thing in Charlotte. Never been to one and not sure exactly what they will have but hey, it ain't that far!

HP, we meet the 1st Tuesday of every month. Next meet is 4/1 (no joke). We'd enjoy having you join in the fun. Maybe you can get Michael to come down with you, we haven't seen him in awhile.

Michael is right generally SAs are worth a 1.5 12A equivalents. However, the actual point calculation is very exacting science. I'm told it involves some chicken blood and an occasional zombie to get it right. But, fortunately for OGTA, we have the grand, exalted, mystic, ruler of the rotary universe to help out with this. Sometimes people just call him Ray, for short.

current setup listed in sig, tho i don't drive it every day now to keep mileage down. mostly weekends now and the drive for dgrr every yr. u'll need an adapter for the T2 intake to fit due to the difference in the bolt pattern of the T2 intake. and i'd bet the port shapes r different too. use the rb intake and go tbi. u can run the 4 bbl or weber style throttle bodies, and a stand alone ecu. i want to get either the holley or edelbrock self tuning setups. but that's a money issue. stuff aint cheap.

That's a fun run Brett. Just be careful of all the sand and gravel that is likely still on the roads from the winter. That can end a day badly.

True, we drove up there 2 weeks back and there was quite a bit of gravel on Wolf Pen Gap, but the road isn't in the best of shape too.

I've very cautious in my new car since I don't quite know it's boundaries, so I'm going to urge everyone to take it easy and not get crazy.

I got a new RX-7 today, a white '83 GSL with 125,000 miles, $400.

This one is number 6, the third in the white car line, called, naturally enough, The White One 3. Or Sexy Pants Returns, if you prefer.

Needs a bit of spit and polish but has great potential, another one of those fantastic rust free Georgia bodies.

Not to worry Fred, I'm already over my domestic limit on white FB's.

If I want to continue to eat well I need to at least get the wheels on The White One 2 and find a place to hide it.

Parts request: Does anybody have a decent dash and/or any red interior parts for an 83 GSL? Red or black?

I think the interior was the same in '82 and maybe earlier years.

Any help finding this stuff would be greatly appreciated, the White One 3 spent it's life in SC and GA and the interior shows it.

Hey Ray, I've got a pretty good set of red leather seats I got from a goat farmer that may help spruce that car up, if you need em.

Does that car run?

I'd be very interested in either an 83 or an 84/85 red dash Billy (or both), neither car has a really good one. Please pass the word to Crit if you see him. Maybe we could work a swap for a bedroom in the DGRR cabin.

I drove it home Robert, after swapping out the starter and radiator in the guy's driveway. Thanks on the seats offer, I'm still up +1 on the red leather seats, so if the 84/85 seats fit in the '83 I've got that covered.

The car is decent, the interior needs a lot of trim parts and the mechanics a complete going over to get everything adjusted just right. But the body is rust free with very few blemishes and the brakes and clutch were recently done. It has great potential.

I'm not sure about the engine, it starts and runs fine, but has a weird vibration that I'm afraid is one of the rotors misfiring (read bad compression). Still, even as a rebuild, a 12A with 1125,000 miles on it is probably a good deal.
