I know some of you have been wondering what happened to me. We are OK now and Michelle is on the mend. But, last Tuesday she was just this side of a heart attack, as a result of all the chemo she has had. It was a tough call, but I decided to stay at the ER instead of going to the OGTA meet. I knew you guys would understand. She spent most of last week in the hospital. She is home now and moving in the right direction, but we got a real scare.
Hope to see eveyone next month, you too Tim...

I appreciate the thoughts and prayers from you and Ray for my niece. Baby Khloe has made a heck of a turn around. She actually got out of the hospital today and went home. She could be one of those miracle babies. Right now the doctors are uncertain about her vision. She may be partially blind but at least she is with us.
Hopefully we will be able to make it to a meet in the future.
Holly here is the teaser pic you were asking for.
Waffles - hmmm good

Give Michelle a hug for me.

Anyone have any experience with broken brake caliper bleed nipples? I broke one off the other day. Easy out failed to get it out. Looks like I may have to drill. Any suggestions?
If it's a front caliper and they are getting old, I'd consider new calipers from rock auto. At around $40 a caliper it would probably be cost effective, since it would take me more than an hour just to figure out how to fix that bleeder valve. And at the end of the day you've solved two problems, fixed bleeder and fresh front calipers.

Rear calipers are more expensive and you get less benefit from the upgrade, since they don't do much of the braking, so fixing the bleeder is probably a good idea for them.

Greg, Rays method would be the easiest but if you have to fix yours then, drill the old bleeder screw out tap the hole and install a repair seat and new bleeder screw. Bleeder repair seats can be bought at real auto parts stores. I doubt if the zone or advanced even know what one is.

calipers
I like the Rockmart replacement idea. I've already wasted enough time trying to back the old valve out. Would I have to replace both? You mentioned it being an upgrade. I assume that would mean doing both. The question is, is the upgrade worth it?
Another item, how does one get the calipers to retract. the manual calls for a special wench.

Slowly but surely

i also recommend replacing caliper. on my 02, i broke a nipple also and tried extracting/drilling. ended up breaking the bit in it then took it to a machine shop only for them to tell me they could not drill it out themselves cause of broke bit.
u can use a c-clamp and old pad to push the caliper in.

By "upgrade" I just meant replacing 25 year old calipers with new rebuilt ones, not really a performance upgrade if the old ones are still workingi well.
Front vs rear calipers makes a big difference here. Front calipers are relatively inexpensive, about $40 each from Rock Auto. Rear calipers however are usually about twice that, enough to make even me think about fixing the bleeder. If it's a rear caliper you may be able to get away with bleeding it at the hose instead of the bleeder valve and call it a day, otherwise I'd give Gene's suggestion a try.
Also rear calipers require the back off wrench to retract the piston, which needs to be turned to make it go back into the caliper. Front calipers are done more simply with a C clamp to push the piston back in.

Greg, if you're working on the front, you need a vise grip C clamp and old pad. If you are working on the back you need a little cube wrench that fits on the end of ratchet. It has different shaped studs on each side to fit into the recessed areas of the piston. The piston can be turned back in.
I have both, if you need to borrow them.

Any of the OGTAs thinking about doing the B3R?
This sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I heard a rumor that a dignitary from Jefferson, GA might be going this year.
I am planning to go. But, my plans sometimes have to change.

You must be talking about waldean (Dean, the Deer Slayer), he's the only dignitary I know in Jefferson. I'd also like to go if I can swing it. Do they allow liberals at B3R?
Greg I tried to call you about the caliper problem but when someone answered the phone there was a click and some kind of machine turned on.
I think it was probably government agents.

Ray, did you see that video of the rotary lawn mower Brett posted. You have got to have one of those. Can you imagine how fast Cathy could mow the lawn with that?
I did. I think it says ReSpeed on the side, no?
But that thing cost more to build than both of my last FB's combined, and a whole lot more labor.
And taking that thing for a drive, with or without a helmet, is way more dangerous than my daily drive into Atlanta, which is already all the excitement I need.
Not a place for Cathy to be hanging out, IMHOP.
I'd rather buy Tony's FB, Cathy would look good in that.
