REPU gearsets changed nearly every year from 74 to 77, going from a 4.63 to a 3.90. I thought I had a 3.90, and that the 4.63 that I picked up from an early truck would provide a little extra power and get my speedo to read right. It ends up that a 3.30 diff with its huge ring gear had been installed, so the truck was a dog. This new 4.63 will be a screamer, now that I know what I've been used to.

For what it's worth, the 3.30 came in some Ford Couriers and in the Mazda diesel trucks..... I've still got a good bit of wrenching to reinstall everything, but it should be done by the end of the day.

i searched youtube and found it. i just finished watching Ben 10: Alien Swarm on cartoon network. had an rx8 in it. this link is part 5 and the rx8 shows about mid vid. and then again at the end of part 6. guess the writers didn't like the rotary sound they put the V8 sound on it.

That's depressing... I think the stock RX8's exhaust note is pretty nice, really. The G35's too, that's nice...

I'll finally get to see everyone again at this next meet! I'll be in a boinger though...

Well, the REPU is a terror now. I can't imagine the 74 trucks driving around on these gears with just a 4-speed.

Crazy.

makes me wonder how urs got 3.30 gears or where they originally came from. even the mazdarepu.com site mentions the limited top speed for the early 4spd trucks with the 4.625 gearing.

gets out the hole good now don't it.

It got a 3.30 back in the early 90's when the bearings went out in the chunk. At that time we were having a problem finding the bearings so a courier 3.30 was aquired and installed to keep the truck running until we found the bearings. I ended up parking the truck shortly after and the REPU chunk was never put back in!

I know where it came from - Couriers and diesel B-series trucks of the era had a 3.30 gearset as an option. When the truck needed a new diff back in the day, a Courier or B-series diff was put in its place. The 3.30 ring gear is bigger than the REPU axle housing flange opening, though, so it takes a LOT of grunt work and a lot of torque on the pinion in order to climb the gear through the flange. The flange was a little boogered up after the NGASS guys were done with it, but a grinder cleaned it up real nice. The 4.63 fell right in.

-= Edit =- Damn, Roland beat me to it. I'm not gonna re-edit, so you can read the above text as if Roland hadn't piped in

Ray about making it out early on Tuesday evening, I work until 6PM, so I won't make it until after 6:30, if the traffic isn't too bad. Not like you need to take pics of my boinger though. See everyone Tuesday night.

6;30 it is Holly, the usual meeting time. Is anybody showing up in a rotary besides me?

Crit, can you nudge the REPU over so I can use it to lay a block of rubber?

Roland, I just noticed in your signature that you have a '54 P/S bug. Is that a VW bug? Does it have a rotary in it? Can you bring it to the meeting?

I'll be there in a the Ghost.

Started the new one yesterday and drove it around the neighborhood a little until it started cutting out. I think its got a fuel system issue. I'll have to see how much fuel is being delivered to the carb to figure which end of the system to start working on.

Ray, I'll definitely have the REPU out. I drove it in to work today. I like the idea of bumping up the meeting time, though. It's not like we'll be gone before Holly gets there.

Ray it is a 1954 VW bug. It is a pro stock drag car. She is a trailer queen. No chance of her making it to the meet. It is air cooled - VW powered. A new engine program is under development! You will see her in the near future but not until she is finished!

Bring her over on the trailer Roland, we can tool around the Jeffery's parking lot with it! It'll be fun popping wheelies in that thing.

54, that's only two years younger than me! (ie, Old Old School; I'm a 52).

I was going to call in sick for the meeting tomorrow because I have a big honey do project that needs attention (yesterday I removed the top stair to our rear entry to put the siding on and now Cathy is all upset about that little 20 inch drop outside the door, so now I need to build a deck).

But since Crit and Roland are bringing their dragsters and Kevin's finally gonna actually show up in a rotary, I'll be there.

Mike did you put some No Leak in the Blue One yet? I'll bring a bottle in case you need it.

Oh yeah, as per Crit's recommendation, I'll be there at 6:00.

Brett, you don't mean your Datsun boinger, do you? At least Colin had the good sense to show up in a Miata. If so, please park out of view of the cameras. We have a reputation to uphold, you know.

Ray - No chance of this car coming out anytime soon. It should be back out in March or April. Maybe you will get a peek in Jan! But I will be in a rotary tomorrow night.

Whoo hoo, five rotaries, we have a quorum.

I'll bring my extra '85 FSM in case anybody is shopping for one.

Billy, tell me what front end suspension things you wanted, they're pulled, I just need to put them in the car.

I'll probably buy that FSM, even though my car is a frankensteined together with a Holley on a 13B, it might help in the near future. $25 was the going rate?

Quad, being you, given the troubles you've had with Nightmare and that sexy red car of Kevin the Elder's, it's the least I can do.

If you can manage to get the 'Mare to Jefferie's tomorrow night so we can get some pictures, at least you'll have an FSM to help get her home.

Brett, we aren't excluding you. We're just excluding your car.

****. I'll push it if I have to. It's been running consistently recently, except when it has that little start up hiccup, but once I get going I'm good.

I've noticed she doesn't like corners though. I'm thinking the float bowls/ idle mixture screws may be off, because whenever I corner, I get this like bubbly noises (occasionally followed by a backfire) and I'll drop idle a little. Once I'm headed straight again, it gurgles while I accelerate, but evens out fairly quickly. I'll see if you guys can diagnose tomorrow.

Ray, They are the strut bar mounts.Mount the the frame rail and the strut rods come off of them. Also the sway bar snakes through a hole in them. You have a picture of them a few post back.
