Just letting the OGTA world know, I took my messed up non-working black dragon bolt to an Oreiley's and found another bolt with the exact same dimensions, only this time a known thread pattern that I could match a nut to, and now my car drives! Getting the clutch swapped out ASAP now.

So when I go to the shop (I have access to a shop with a full lift thanks to a friend), I am going to have the following done(actually make that do the following with Geoffry, the BMW owner):

-go over entire car with a torque wrench
-entirely new clutch hydraulic system (master and slave) including a SS line
-DOT 5 Silicone brake fluid for the clutch hydraulics (Doesn't wear seals out, and doesn't take in moisture, so no real need for ever replacing in theory)
-new Master brake cylinder to fix mushy pedal issue (I get a mushy pedal even after bleeding brakes, but I am not losing fluid)
-resurfaced OEM flywheel installation
-brand new OEM clutch
-brand new Racing Beat ordered, Excedy built street/strip performance pressure plate
-new front and rear transmission seals
-Royal Purple "Max Gear" synthetic gear oil

I am excited. I am hoping my friend will get me in the shop tonight

No reason to. Keep it Simple. Just use wrenches or socket. I don't even own a torque wrench and have never had a bolt fall off on the track or the street.

You'll have to check the diagram for that, Tim. I'm not sure if it uses a bimetallic strip for the intermittent (mechanical) or if there's a 12V supply to power a delay relay. Either way, the net output of your combination switch is that the plug gets 12V from the harness, and the switch provides a direct ground, direct ground with a load resistor, or a pulsing ground with a load resistor. There may be 12V necessary somewhere under the dash in order to power the delay logic, but it's got nothing to do with the 12V on the plug under your cowl. That plug should have 12V all the time, which is why I was originally looking for a fuse. On the REPU, the fuse is in the steering column and is an inline plastic holder with a glass fuse. Yours may vary, but it might be common Mazda practice to have used a separate fuse in the harness somewhere.

I'd check the FSM and know that you've located exactly the right fuse (use the splice references denoted with X-01, X-02, etc.) before you pronounce it "checked". If it's not a bad fuse, then I'd suggest it's some faulty wire on the way into the 4-plug connector.

Finally an all Mazda all Rotary family again!
And all is right with the world.

Holly, we have come full circle. Over ten years ago you were driving your FD and you left an RX-7 Club business card on my windsheild. I think I still have the card. I'll try to remember to bring it to the next OGTA.

With some luck and Ray's special rotary incense, I hope to have a "new" rotary to show off at the next OGTA also. But right now the odds are better that Holly shows up in a "new" rotary than me.

Yeah, I'll pull the manual and look for a different/another fuse.

Nice!

Tim, maybe you can give Crit a little help with his RX-2 gif, it used to be pretty cool but on my computer at least now it just looks like a yellow lap top opening and closing.

Chris, good move getting the Sexy Pants White One into the shop and up on a lift. After all, you can only do so much on a gravel driveway in a weekend!

Tim, I should know better than to get mixed up with electronic problems, but it seems to me one time I tested my wiper assembly by plugging it into another car with a known working system to find out whether it was the wiring or the unit causing the problem. You must have a spare FB in the neighborhood, right?

Mike, have Faith. The Blue One will rise from the ashes!

You get those arrows as part of a proprietary software package that is only available to tenured professors Billy, sorry. (But I might be able to bootleg a copy in exchange for a ReSpeed R&P kit for the FB).

We have an impromptu meeting setup for Wednesday night. Dave Meditz and family will be in town for a bit. He has been in Iraq for the last year and is here on leave. IIRC, Dave has over 100 rotary cars in his collection.

Shall me say normal place, Wednesday night?

BTW, Holly, He would like to stop by Downing Atlanta Thursday.

Shop experience turned out horribly. Couldn't get the flywheel nut off. It says it's 350 ft pounds but it has to be WAY more than that. I used the racingbeat flywheel stopper and flywheel wrench with massive pipes for extra leverage, and 2 friends, All I managed to break loose was really more like breaking apart. I bent the RB flywheel stopper...........so I threw the old cluch and pressure plate back on,and I have spent 10-12 hours basically just changing the transmission oil and putting in a new cluytch hydraulic system.... not fun. Oh, and the clutch slips even more now....

I will need help tackling the actual clutch... Crit, you think the impact could get off my super crazy 1/4 inch steel plate braking flywheel nut?

Priceless! Give the financial institutions a few more years and we will be back to the barter system. Arrows for R&P system... I'd get some circles thrown in as well Billy

Hey Ray- Do you happen to have any non-electric FB mirrors in your stash of parts gold? I need both but will take one if anyone has one.

Chris, I've never come across a flywheel nut that my little 550-lb IR impact wouldn't get off, and it's not particularly strong. You can borrow my 54mm socket and take it to a diesel shop with BIG impacts, or try mine. Up to you.

Billy, if you talk to Dave I'm down for Wednesday, but also have lots of stuff in boxes to talk to him about.

Wow, that's a lot of Old School. Looks like Cuba.

Dave, I only have the electric door mirrors, no mechanical ones. Only the 84/85 vintage, sorry!

I will be at Twisted Tavern tomorrow night. Any time yet? I cannot be there until approx. 7PM.

I can speak with Dave Wednesday to see when he might want to come to Downing/Atlanta.

Great post Crit. I really liked the video when they are pulling out of the parking lot. Brap, brap, brap...

When the weather gets nice we need to do a Saturday morning meet and drive. If I can ever get the Blue One running.

Anyone play softball? Tuesday nights, think it's a 14game season with a double elim tourney, fields are at the end of runway #3. Not sure of the cost, plus you will be responsible to bring the beer 1 week.

Another bylaw infraction?!?!? Should you be able to post a Tuesday night event that would interfere with your once a month Tuesday night OGTA meeting???
