Micki and I made it back home.

Racked up a total of 1,216 miles this weekend. The ol' girl didn't miss a beat.

It was great to meet you guys. Special thanks to Holly for her hospitality at the Rotary Inn.

Went from Lynchburg, met Stu for dinner of Friday night, hit the lake Saturday, went to Pigeon Forge, TN on Sunday (via the Tail of the Dragon). Checked out the Smokies and hit Asheville, NC Moday. Headed back home tonight (meeting up with another RX-7 buddy on the way).

Had all sorts of weather. Rain on the way to the meet. Sun and semi-warm on the weekend. Cold temperatures and even snow last night and this morning crossing the Smokies and in Asheville.

Had a great time. Ray: Wish we could have met for breakfast. Just couldn't work it in. Maybe the next time we are down.

People think these cars are small, but I had a tranny, a full set of irons, a bunch of other misc. RX-7 parts, laptop, camera, and about 5 days worth of clothes + blankets, pillows, etc. and still had room to spare.

Got about 26 MPG on the highway and 22 MPG during all the mountain driving. Not bad for having a full load.

Hope to hit one of the Spring meets and hope to meet more of the OGTA crew.

Kent

Are you using an orbital or a high speed buffer? You will need to use different pads and compounds to get the best results

Hey Kent and Micki, glad you two made it back home safely. I'm glad I made it to the Lake meet and caught up with you guys. What did you and Micki think of the dragon? Post up some pics for us of your trip. I should have taken a pic of you two by your RX-7 so you would have memories with it in later years.

The Dragon was cool. The weather was nice. We just took it nice and slow. The TN troopers were out in full force. I'll post up some pics once I copy to the comp and size them down. There are a couple pics on the previous page of this thread that Ray took of us with the car.

Even though it was a lot of miles, it was enjoyable in the 7. It really didn't even seem like that much driving.

yeah, when I went up to GA Rt 52 this weekend, I stopped by this courtesy pull off area and talked to a dude in an old Porsche and he said that the cops are everywhere on The Dragon now, it sucks.

Brett, you really need to strip that hood and lay some new paint down. Think about it like this...

Public swimming pool?

...or my S4 tails?

Buy the ****, make some time, be ON time and we'll do it.

Glad you guys made it home in one piece and that the Tennessee police couldn't catch up with you. Nice to meet you and Micki finally! I agree, a well kept first gen 7 is the best possible traveling vehicle.

And don't tell me I didn't tell you so that there would be snow up in them there mountains. Let's see the pics! (If you post them on photobucket.com you don't need to downsize the files, it does it for you).

Brett, don't let Collin anywhere near your car with a spray can, you saw how that blue car turned out!

I have a crappy hood. Mine is probably beyond the help of detailer. But if you think you can improve it, we can talk.

Ahh I have a crappy hood! lol

I'm going to go to Collin's (#1) and let him do it because he knows more about paint and what not than I do and he can do a lot of the work . It will shine one day...

And Collin- thanks for the video. Do you have the whole thing of me driving off and stuff?

And I've been thinking about the whole swap thing, and I can't trust that motor. No offense Collin (#1). I'm going to slowly swap it into the convertible over the next few weeks/ months and get that car going. I've got the GTU wheels off of the parts car, and all I'll have to buy is a driveshaft and a dime-a-dozen transmission. Then I can either sell it and get way more that I was thinking about getting for it now, or pull the motor back out and swap it with the one in my car and then sell the vert. Or hell I might like it enough to keep the damn thing Who knows.

But the tranny and LSD are still going into my car, SOON!

Speaking of randomness... I'm stuck about choosing my career path, and why not turn to you guys? I'm stuck between:
1) Electrical Engineer
2) Mechanical Engineer
3) Finance/Banking something

Wow, that made me start laughing... I see you fixed your signature image. Is it greater than or equal to 17.5 or whatever? And where do you teach again? Somethings making me think it's Mercer...

See you guys at the meet Tuesday! No school FTW!

Ray, your sig is going to be taken down again if you don't change it. I baby sized it(max Rx-7 club allows it's 500 by 100 pixels large and the 8.7KB file size is waaaaay under 17.4). If you're wondering where the link to the thread went, click the picture. Just hit "quote" and copy everything after my dotted line into your signature information and it'll keep the admins off your back

My hood's total crap, but I'd like to learn if it's possible to bring it back. Painting's not an option, but there's no budget for elbow grease.

Brett I would recommend electrical or better yet computer engineering or computer science. My brother is a mech. eng. and its a rough job market. Hard to find jobs and tough competition. The electrical or computer degree has a much better outlook for employment after graduation. I would stay away from business or finance especially now.

This is all advice based on employment potential though and getting a college degree should be about the education not the prospects of jobs after graduation. So the best thing you could do is go to a great university like Georgia Tech and take whatever base curriculum is required for freshman engineers and see what you really like. Take some intro classes to various engineering departments and see if any of them really hook you. Don't be afraid to change majors later in your sophmore year. You may take a class in something and decide that its right for you. You really have to love whatever it is because you'll be involved in it the rest of your life one way ot another.

I'm a mechanical engineer, and haven't had any trouble in the job market. I've been canned 3 times and had to find the next job in a pinch, and it never took too long. When I've elected to take a new job, I've always found that there's actually a lot of interesting alternatives out there if you're given the luxury of shopping around.

Brett, ever considered the military? Again, I've had great experiences there, too. They'll even pay for college, and I may use my GI Bill for a Master's Degree.

FWIW, Georgia Tech isn't a Universtity, but an Institute, in that it doesn't offer the liberal arts degrees necessary to be a University. That said, it's a bargain, it's in-state, and the HOPE Grant applies.

I know Tim, it's an FB with either SA or SE wheels. I did that on purpose so that everybody will be happy. And that's good advice for Brett, but you might want to add a career in Biology. It will make you poor but happy. (Yup Brett, I teach Biology at Mercer).

Thanks for the tip on the sig Chris, I realize it's a little big but it took me two hours just to get that one posted and even then it turned out not to be the picture I wanted. I decided to just settle. If anybody can shrink it for me that would be great, but Chris the one you've got is all scrunched up.

Let us know how the crappy hood treatment works out folks, if it works I might just try it on the Silver One, which is just beginning to show hood fade.

Happy Halloween all you rotor heads!

Hope GRANT applies at GA Tech? not just the old Hope correct? I did not know that. Hmmm

Colin, if you're not there, I'll kick your skinny ***.

I'll even drive the Autotragic Silver FC 'Sabine' that I was telling you about. Heh. Her last trip as an automatic will be to the OGTA meet. Everyone better wish her luck and give her lots of love on Tuesday!

Scrunching is the only thing you can really do to get it under the 500 by 100 size limit.
