Huntsville Get Together
Mike, am I ever gonna get to take take a ride in your FD? I would like to see how much work and tuning I need to do to get the Cobra to the same basic feel in power as your FD. I think I can tune it for a little over 500 but I'm at a serious weight disadvantage.
...
Whats the weight on the mustang cobra? 3665lbs? If so then you would need 650rwhp to equal a 2900lbs 500rwhp FD. But then again it will also depend on the popwer curve. I would think a V8 would hit max power why early then drop of up top kinda opposite of a rotary, so who knows. One thing for sure is you can get some great 60 footers out of that mustang powertrain!! We should meet up at the dyno. Maybe a group thing. I would guess it be 2-3 months before I have it in and broke in, clutch that is. I also need to get some colder plugs (11.5's) and I might even put on a FJO meth inj. kit.. Would be nice to drop intake temps a little and do all this on 93 pump.

I've been talking with Robert Schwarze at Static X about dyno time and a tune for my car and he says they are currently getting setup for the SCT X2 tuners (which is what I have) and as soon as they're done and run a few test runs they would be happy for me to bring my car to them. So I'm waiting for that.
....
My Cobra weighs more like 3400lbs and reaches max hp at around 6000rpm with a redline of 7000rpm and max torque around 4800rpm. I'm currently at 427rwhp with 416ftlbs of torque. I've done a few more mods such as upgraded internals so when I get a new tune I can try to push it over the 500 mark. I'm also thinking of adding a intercooler and spraying NO2 through it. From what I've been told that would push me close to the 600 mark but very very unsafe.

In that case 600rwhp would put your est. 1/4 mile time about the same as a 2900lbs 500rwhp FD.
By the sounds of it then your power band is about the same. I will do some 8k to 8.5k rpm pulls on the next go around. But as most go it should be falling off or level of at 7500-8000. I think also once I pull more fuel out in the 5500 rpm area it will pull the curve up for a more level curve rather than such a peak. (more useful)...
Are you retarding timing with boost added? Usually most non intercooled boosted cars do this which is a big loss in HP. Get an IC or add some sort of water-meth inj. Add that NOS and you should have a monster!!!!
Yes, there is like 8 degrees of timing taking out on my cobra but it's supposed to be a safety issue. Apparently the stock internals on the 99 & 01 Cobras can't handle much more than 500rwhp. That's why almost all Supercharger systems for 4.6L V8s are designed to run on a stock motor at 8 to 10psi. So most of the older kits came non-intercooled with instructions to retard timing to slighty diminish hp numbers to protect the internals. Sounds stupid I know because I was under the impression that an intercooled system would actually drop psi numbers slightly... but now almost all Vortech systems come with what they call "Cool Charge" systems, although it's not required. But now that my internals are slightly better than stock I'm gonna try to purchase one of the intercooler systems and add a little more hp on my next tune.
wow..8 degrees will make a differance. I know race gas will help some but water inj. with meth mix would be the anwser if you do not IC it. Either will get those temps down and let you bump up the timing.
I remember racing a SC mustang years ago before IC were really popular for GT's and he was pinging very bad! I really thought I was going to get my *** handed to me at first seeing his mean *** looking car, the sound of his SC and me with a 200lb passenger but I ended up pulling him both races.

what a nice day today. Had to drive the FD.... So it lets me know that the grinds are to bad not to fix while its out for the new clutch.. So anyone have one close by? I found one with no grings in TN for $300 plus shipping...
$300 sounds like a good price. It would cost you alot more than that to have someone crack open yours and replace the synchros, even though the don't cost too much money.
I'm still cracking away at mine trying to at least get it back together for the Gap. Running into problems finding everything I removed from the car even though I thought I put everything into rubbermaid containers.

Mike, I think that's a hell of a deal on the tranny! Just go for it! As of now, I can't deliver it anything soon.. not until after DGRR (in May).. Also, just to drive up there with my truck might cost 40 bucks and day of my time.

The wife and I are trying for our last one(s) now. When she miscarried in Oct last year she was initially carrying twins.
