thanks for the replies, it's not really Saenz over Jerico, it's more like 6 over 4 and sequential over H. The jerico really is an awsome tranny that will hold just about anything you through at it but like said earlier the more gears you have the closer you can place the ratios and the less rpm drop between gears. with the ratios in this tranny I never go below 7200.

Awesome build thread. the decisions you are making keep getting better and better. please post tons of video once the car finds its way onto a track. looking forward to hearing it start!

your absolutely correct, you just never think you're gonna go this far. somehow this project started as a small weekend project and now I'm on my second year of the project. Who knows what I'll come up with next
You always think "oh I just want to get on the track" blah blah blah. Those of you reading this and considering building a racecar DON'T! buy somebody else's project and finish it.

Thanks for the kind words guys, I've been working hard on the floor (I've been putting it off for over a year!). Unfortunately I misplaced my compact flash card so no pictures to post yet, I just finished the section under the diff (quick release with dzus fasteners) now I'm moving on to the rear diffuser. I'll post pics as soon as I find my card

I was able to get some work done this weekend. Below you can see I finally finished the rear diffuser, I'm very very very (did I mention VERY) happy the way it turned out!!!
It took me a while but it was worth it! Also attached is a pic of the window net
Here is a rear view of the diffuser. You can see Rob's car in the background, fuel system work being done.
different angle, you can't tell from this pic but I had to trim the bumper cover a bit below the tag
Here is a view showing part of the flat floor coming together (the section below the diff is removable with dzus fasteners.
here is the window net installed, I had a pretty cool net bar made (not cheap) very cool!
next on the agenda is to finish the floor.

I did a little more work last night on the floor/diffuser.
here you can see the lower control arm attachment point and how it protrudes.
so I decided to make a little spoiler for the subframe protrusion.

hello BigAl need another shell for future project or spare or anyone out there looking for an FD....trying to sell my shell.
Its a 93 R1 hard top FD,original black.....I cut the floor out stripped the car for a tube chassis that i build but no longer have it or interested in this project.I have owned the car for several ,years plus it was a good running car straight body.The front shock towers are still stock plus the firewall....No suspension or front body parts on this shell.
Asking $900 for it buyer needs to pick up

It's been a couple of weeks since my last post, Rob and I finally finished the front splitter/diffuser. I'm very happy the way it turned out, I think it looks good and will be very functional!

Not sure if All has actually run one yet, so I will humbly add my experiences/opinions. I watched teams working with the old Trans-Am 4 and 5 speed boxes running TransAm, GrandAm AGT (including the 24Hrs Daytona), and a few SCCA GT1 cars were really good, the boxes worked perfectly and IMHO the best value in a racing gearbox. Not that my opinion really means much more than anyone elses but here is my racing gearbox list in order of value/dollar spent-
Saenz- Seriously the most for your dollar spent
Quaife (if you can find one on this side of the pond, excellent boxes and very sturdy)
Jerico- Used to be the best value, still very good value.
Tex- still a really good value, call Taylor in Texas and they will set you up right
Bert/Brinn- Can be found really cheap but not really sure what thier ratio selection is like these days
Hewland (still a lot of $$$ unless something has changed)
Webster (Not even sure if they are still making front engine boxes, cheaper than Hewland but harder to find)

you might of noticed the car isn't done yet, it'll be a while before I get to use the tranny. (btw you may want to refrain from quoting with several pictures attached, just not necessary).

just finished reading this whole thread while at work (as well as most of rob's thread) very inspiring. I hope to have an FD track car once I'm out of college in two years. Can't wait to see how this thing turns out.

Here you see the ignition interrupt device I made to be able to flat shift. It looks simple but this damn thing took several hours!
Here you see the steering wheel with a bracket I made for the switches I'll be using, I'll be adding the appropriate labels this week
I can't bring myself to work on the floor, so for now I'm gonna start working on the wiring.
