well we got some work done this weekend, below you see the upper stress bar we made out of chromolly. I plan on making a diagonal bar but I'm going to wait till after we move the motor. I hung the fenders as well, I still need to make the little outriggers to strengthen the fenders

How much adjustability do you think you have in the front suspension for caster?

Remember all the mounting points are the same so caster adjustment has not changed, whatever stock is that's what I should have.

I contemplated that but it's just easier to open the hood rather than having to remove the entire front end.

curious

other than the obvious bucketload of work, ever thought about re-welding the front frame 2" or so higher on the chassis? If you essentially "dropped" the car by chopping the front frame and then the rear you could get a car 2" lower with stock suspension geometry. The goal would be a very low car with the lower A-arms dead flat. This would give a suspension with minimal scrub. When the lower A-arms get angle down on the inside it starts to scrub the wheel with compression and roll.

Trent, I had thought of making my own control arms and repositioning the mounting points, essentially the same thing. But at some point I need to stop the hemorrhaging of money.

Thanks

It's been a couple of weeks since my last post but we have been hard at work.

we decided to change the intake manifold to incorporate a set of high injectors that will blend in probably after 3500 rpm's, if you don't remember what the old intake looked like just look back a few pages.

here it is taking shape

obviously I still need to make the fuel rail and mount it but it's almost done, I'm really happy the way it turned out.
BTW did anyone notice the motor is back and down again. finally finished the motor mounts, we actually turned down the pucks on the lathe to get the motor allllll the way down.

I also lightened the flywheel, got it down to 6lbs

Seems like a very interesting mounting location of the injectors? Have you seen this done or are you trying something new?

I love the location of the motor, it is honestly almost a mid engine car. I can't wait to see what the weight distribution looks like. Very nice build.

That injector have been used alot of times before. They usually only come on after the engine has been fired and running at a decent rpm, so as secondary injectors otherwise the fuel might spit everywhere. Here's a video of it being used on an f1 engine:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NHEAxKGw8Y

F1 can get away with just putting those on there because their engine already idle high enough to suck in enough air to draw all the fuel inwards. The reason that they do it is for a couple of things:

1) It helps cool the air charge further more
2) Since the path that the fuel has to take is now at its longest, the fuel has more time to attomize better.

I am, however, interested in knowing if you bought or made the inserts that they are sitting in. If you bought them from there? and if you made it, did you just machine them from a solid piece or was it pressed into shape?

Awesome, Thanks for the information and that video is very cool.
Can't wait to see this car finished and what kind of power he puts down.

my buddy had them made, they start out as a flat piece of aluminum, they're spun on a lathe and pushed into shape.

BigAl first of all AMAZING project been following it for a while. Any dangers with lightening the flywheel that much?

I definitely considered that. You can't tell from the picture but where the outside holes are its close to a 1/2 inch thick and the inner holes near the attachment holes it's nearly an inch thick so I don't think I'll have any issues.

BTW thanks for the kind words

he made it clear to me that these were one off and probably not gonna make them again. with that in mind I made sure to be real careful as I was welding them!

I know it wouldnt be as light, but could you drill out a few old intake valves?
Basically the same shape and they'd be cheap or even free :/
