Rob and I finished the moving of the motor. It went forward about 7 inches from where it was, I figured if we were gonna move it, might as well make so the front spark plug lines up with the spindle. We also received the delrin bushings, adjustable rear tow links and 5 point harness. I think our next step will be to finish machining the rotor housings.

Here is the passenger side motor mount, fully boxed and with inserts so it won't crush if you over tighten any of the bolts.

Here is how the motor looks now

Looks like we'll have to make a new tranny crossmember

Well after moving the engine forward we needed to redo the exhaust. it wasn't a big deal, I actually like this version better.

here is the old version for reference

and the new version with the engine further forward.

I think our next step will be to work on the intake manifold.

Was there any specific reason to chop the floor, besides having to make room for the transmissons?

Yes, the goal was to make the underside of the car completely flat, we'll be making a defuser for the rear and front. we're trying to take advantage of every available aerodynamic freebee.

well we started on the intake setup, we installed the sleeve's in the housing's and started mocking up the intake manifold. This intake setup is preliminary it might still change.

as they sit they're pretty small, I haven't done the final bore yet, I suspect it'll be around 2"'s.

Question, not critisism, but why use steel everywhere, in places where the strength may not be as important? Ease of welding? I would think the weight savings in certain places would be worth it.

Nice progress though, I enjoy reading this thread.

I'm not sure what places you're speaking about, please be more specific and I'll explain as best as I can.

thank you

I was looking at the front bumper supports and thinking it could be done in aluminum, probably stiffer support for the front bumper and intercooler, and in a collision, the steel will bend just as the aluminum would no?

Also the cage you built for the fuel cell. Both these items are near the ends of the car, so I figure keeping the weight near the center of the car would be optimal. Just curious is all

I don't have the bill in front of me but I checked their website and a 3 into 1 collector is $356, don't forget mine is a double slip. I remember paying $2.50 each tab so all the tabs $15. BTW the collector takes over a week to make, they make all their collectors to order.

BigAl...

P.S. don't forget the v-band clamp that was $85

P.S.S. and those friggin bolts are AN aircraft stuff and they were a couple of bucs apiece with the locking oval nuts

those are all valid points! These pictures don't really show it but the frame for the cell is using very thin mild steel, I'd bet the cage weighs 5-7 lbs and the bumper support is made with thin wall 4130 chromoly, I think aluminum of the same size would have been to flimsy, I'm hanging quite a bit of stuff off the bumper support so it needs to be able to handle some weight.

Ok, Rob and I were at it again last night, the velocity stacks in the pictures above wouldn't fit under the hood so we "turned the corner" so to speak. this should allow us enough room to fit an air box under the hood "hopefully". this setup is at a very specific length dictated by CLR after many many dyno sessions with these motors.

I couldn't agree with you more, but with the bend it would have been way to long.
