BigAl, what muffler are you using? Looks fairly compact, I'm contemplating either dumping my exhaust underneath the car or on the side like you, I don't want to have to worry about being kicked off tracks for being too loud

I using a BurnsStainless ultralite muffler, custom length. I'm hoping it'll hush it down enough.

I bet you get goosebumps every morning from the thought of the car being so close to completion. Great job so far and good luck. I for one can't wait to see a video of this car.

Yes, it's all I think about, school has been pounding me to death lately so car time has been limited. I was finally able to go to the shop today and finished mounting the alternator, below are the pics. BTW thanks for the kind words

BigAl...

As you can see I made an upper bracket and a lower bracket, I was able to use the 20b tensioning bracket.

Muffler

We run a 4" exhaust on the 4Kruzn FD with a coast performance muffler quite similar to the burns one you have in size. The car is painfully loud. At the end of last season the car was booted out of a time attack because it was too loud. We've been thinking about adding another muffler to the system, but have yet to finalize plans. When I spoke with Burns they suggested a dual chamber setup. Here's a listing of the times and the comments by the organizer. The FD was just behind my FC.

Still looking great. MIG welded aluminum for the rad piping? Any other shots of how you mounted the alternator?

Haha no they don't look that bad, was just curious! I have a mig, no tig, but I don't think there is any hope for me doing any alu welding with it.

I saw that picture yeah thanks, I missed it when I wrote the message. I want to try to do something similar, get the alternator down low.. every little bit counts.

What are you going to paint the chassis with when you're all done? Epoxy primer?

Al,

It seems like a hardpipe setup is fairly common in race-based builds of this calibur. So, what is the tolerance for engine movement etc. with a setup like this?

more than you might think. Also keep in mind the motor is completely solid mounted so there really is no movement.

it's the latest transmission from Saenz, the TT. It's good upto 600 ft lbs of torque. It came from a car running a 20b so the gear ratios are on the money and the adapter is for a Mazda bellhousing. Needless to say I'm really stoked!

BTW, the Jerico is now for sale. It has zero use since professional rebuild, Mazda/Jerico adapter (alot of work went into this adapter as well as machining the case to accept the Mazda starter), billet top cover, complete stud w/12 point aircraft hardware, hurst shifter with 2 brackets short/long as well as matching shift rods for both brackets, custom fabbed shifter lever. This is the latest version of the Jerico four speed with the center support and micro polished gears. This straight cut dog box will handle just about anything you throw at it. It's perfect to go racing, we use exactly the same type of box in Rob's car and it works awesome, the faster you pull the lever the better it shifts!

The price is $3500 shipped to lower 48

TIA
BigAl...

Well I've been back at it again, it turns out the adapter was for a Mazda Competition PBS bellhousing. I tried to source an adapter from Saenz but couldn't get anyone to return my call, so I was left with no choice but to make my own adapter. I made it out of 3/4" aluminum on my buddies milling machine.

here I am making sure the plate is true, I really need to thank my buddy Laz for his help!

im speculating, but my answer would be that the tt series saenz he has there is a 6 speed, vs the 4 speed jerico, the 6 speed allows much better control of the rpm range between gears and allows you to stay right in the sweet spot of the rpms and not run out at the top end on larger, faster tracks, like you may with a 4 speed.

note: i could be way off, if the jerico was not a 4 speed or if this saenz is not a 6 speed LOL :-)

BTW that is a STEAL of a price for that jerico you are selling!!!

I'd say it being a sequential is also a plus and reason, no?

True, I just though the jerico was seq as well, but maybe its H-pattern.

All Jericho transmissions are non-sequential. The Saenz TT is about the only reasonable cost sequential out there. The main reason to go sequential is to reduce the chance of helmet fires and miss-shifts. The more you can reduce the drive workload the easier it is to focus on the line and the traffic. Shift speed is basically the same with any dog-box gearbox, the sequential just requires less driver work and thought. Sequentials can also be set up with a flat-shift option due to the one-way upshift action of the shift lever.
