Hey Craig, welcome to the forum! That is a beautiful 7 you have there. Is it an R1?? Where are you located? And I assume that you just graduated, so what school are you from?

My name is Matt, and I am also 18.

About learning to drive your car, you may want to attend some of the auto-x's held in this area, they will sure teach you a lot!

Hey Craig, welcome. To answer your question, if you are just getting used to a manual I would reccomend you get used to shifting before you start worrying about launches. Trust me on this one, you will be crying if you miss a shift at redline and put in first instead of 3rd (almost happened to me). Your best bet is to drive around and learn the feel of the shifter so that you know it like you know the back of your hand. Anyways awesome car and nice to have another member on the board.

Hey Craig, welcome to the forum. I see you have the same problem as all they other 3rd gens with the faded mirrors.

We should all get together now that we seem to have some new members recently. Anybody up for that?

I had planned on being there, but I seem to have lost an O-ring in the engine. I will get it taken care of, but not that soon.

You lost an o-ring? What happened? Maybe you need someone to rebuild your engine.
BTW, David, yours is ready to pick up. I'm impressed with the Rotary Aviation kit. The inner water seal is pretty slick. It's coated with teflon so it should hold up better to compression and heat. Also, the two piece apex seals were easier to install than the stock three piece.
I'm ready for the next one. Trade for some 13B stuff? How about an engine, harness, & ECU? What I need to do is get my hands on a TII engine, harness & ECU, install that into my car, then use my old engine & stuff for the 1st gen. That would be perfect.

I am gonna do it. I have done a few before. I just need time to get to it. I seem to have 3 GSLSE engines now and one car that uses a 13B.

I still have one FB parts car I am trying to give away, but I don't think that is what you are looking for.

I seem to have a medium mileage engine that I am going to put in the car for now. I have most of the parts to do my original engine right, with a decent street port and a few other odds and ends. I have the aviation gasket set you mentioned, and the 2 peice apex seals. Of course I have the 3mm apex seals.

If your gonna GIVE it away, I'll take it. I still need a tranny (if it has one) and I'm sure we'll find a second car usefull.
You mentioned you had a few GSL-SE cars. I'm going to put a 13B in my 1st gen and it seems I need a GSL-SE oil pan. Do you have any extras? I have a 12A front cover and engine mount, so I can make that aspect of the fit work. Apparently the 2nd gen pan won't clear some of the frame/suspension.

if your going to put a 13b into a 12a chassis, youll need this as well...

http://racingbeat.com/resultset.asp?PartNumber=11832

the 12a and 13b ones that come on the cars wont work. something about the 2 chassis' being different.

I have one GSLSE car, but 3 complete engines. I can probably spare some parts. I also know someone else that has some other stuff. I am looking for an aluminum water pump housing from a 2nd gen (trying to save weight). So we might be able to work something out.

And on the front mount. As I am sure you know, the 12A cross member and and mount can be modified to take the 13B.

My parts car does not have a transmission or engine. It would make a decent body to build a SRX7 or someting out of. It is solid and free to anyone. I even have it sitting on my trailer now.

Neither.....
I have one SE and it is my car.

I have 3 engines. I really don't want to get rid of any of them, but Zack asked about the oil pan and I have extras so I guess I might give one up. I have an extra FI, intake, etc as well along with all the rats nest of vacuum hoses that I would be willing to let go to. Sorta make me an offer, but I am not giving them away. I am always interested in parts trades for something that I might need or want.

I also have another parts car (basically a body), has interior, etc, but some has been stripped. It has a somewhat crunched RF fender and was hit in the rear, but is fixable for something like an SRX7 body. It is free to a good home, but I might have to work out a small delivery charge to basically cover my gasoline or something, unless someone wants to pick it up. This car is a GS not a GSLSE.

Sorry for previus confusion.

Calvin- Looks like you have a regular parts garage. Almost enough to start a race team or maybe just enough to keep one of these on the road for quite some time.

Zach- How is the project 7 coming along? When do you plan on having it on the track by?

FWIW, I have autocrossed since 1973 (I was 15 at the time) and spent about 15 years or so in there road racing my cars, or building road racing cars for someone else. I have only recently gotten into RX7's and somehow the things keep following me home. I got my GSLSE, then a friend gave me 2 non-running but complete cars. I gave one to a friend that has built an autocross car out of it, I was going to put the other one together with my daughter to be her first car, but we were given yet another one that was in better shape. We put that one together with parts from her first car. Then I gave the reminants of that parts car away, got my daughters car running (she got her drivers license and shortly thereafter an '85 GSL) and now I was given another parts car the me and friends have been using. Now I am giving that last parts car away.

Follow that??? :-)

I knew I'd hear something like that.

Rob, I went to Tiki Bob's last night. Pretty cool place. College night: $0.25 beers until nine, hotties all night, and I was all over 'em. It was loud as **** on the dance floor. I think I did some serious damage. People were yelling as loud as they could in my ear and I still couldn't hear them. I can't believe David said there was noone there on his B-day. That place was PACKED.

Oh yeah, this is for everyone. G-Force this Saturday at midnight. We're renting the track for 30 mins then back to the apt. for brewskies. With 10 people its $34. The more the cheaper. We have 7 so far. Let me know ASAP! If you don't want to drive your more than welcome to watch and have a few beers with us.
