Julian and I are going to put a roll-cage in the hachi, and we are trying to figure out if it's more cost-effective for us to buy a welder and TIG-weld it ourselves, or to take it to a shop...

Anyone know of any shops in the area that do this sort of thing?

Deffinitly buy the welder. I'm gonna want a rollcage in my FC sooner or later, and you guys being able to weld it in for me would be super :P...

It's YOUR project car.

Anyone can dump money on a shop, but how many people can say "I biult this!"

Thats the whole reason I work on my cars, because I love the work. The end result is nice, but the journy is what makes the car!

I could weld it myself, I'm just not sure I want to spend the $1800+ for the welder and equipment, then spend even more money for materials, and all the time it would take to weld it.... If letting someone else do it costs the same as or less than getting a welder I'll probably just let someone else do it.

That said, my original question still stands... does anyone know of any shops that do this sort of thing?

Yeah you need a 21mm and a 24mm( I believe) open end wrench, one on the line and one on the fitting. Hold the fitting and turn the line off.

There's some things I will weld and there's some things that I want welded for me...

If I weld up tranny mounts or something and the welds are contaminated or somehow fucked up, the tranny falls out, I roll the car to the side of the highway, call up some someone and come back later with the truck to tow it and fix the **** later.

If my roll cage is fucked and I flip the car, I don't have the luxury of a mulligan.

Then there's the **** that I know full well how to do, but needs special equipment that I can't afford. Tire mounting, balancing, and alignments are some of those.

See Harry at RPM Fabrications. Their shop's off Connelly drive in Glen Burnie/Hanover (off Dorsey Rd across the street from BWI - if you kow where Cancun Cantina is, it's right bhind there). I don't know his number offhand, but if you check out Racer's Den he's a sponsor of that board so he's got a shop section. Tell him I sent you.
