I would take the FD but there's no way it can fit all the stuff I have to haul so we're taking the g/f's car.

I have an engine stand you can borrow once I finish my rebuild and I think Max_Spd picked up an engine adapter. If you need it super asap, I can offer a case of beer and some pizza if you can lend a hand on the rebuild next week haha!

I have some 2x4s and a metal pipe that work well with the chain hoist

Honestly I think the hardest part of doing the rebuild is trying to take off the front pulley/shaft bolt!!! I know I had to take my stuff to a truck repair place to have them use their air tool to brake it loose, as keep in mind its 350+tq and red locktite holding that thing on there! :-/

nah... put a breaker bar on it and rest it on the fender/wheel well... then pull your ignition fuses and blip the starter breaks it free pretty quick.

The motor was out of the car, but that may work for those that are lucky enough to have the motor still in the car! Never tried it, but there is a 1st time for everything!

When it's out of the car, you can put the header back on upside down and use that as place to have someone (or 2) stand to keep the motor from rotating, while you use the breaker bar.

That is, if you try and do things without an engine stand.

I'd say it probably wouldn't work with the FD motor though because they don't have headers just a turbo manifold that doesn't give much room for standing.

The 12A though, I think that it is written in the manual as such:
  • Mount aftermarket header upside down
  • Place motor on ground
  • Have two small people stand on exhaust manifold
  • Have one large person jump up and down on breaker bar
  • Have beer

Pretty sure that is how it is supposed to be done.

The most important note: if using a female in the process do not say that you need their weight to keep the engine still.

When is your 12a coming out to get bridge ported?

Also had great success with the hitachi electric impact gun that Capital Rentals have available.

After I blow something (or get a decent workspace). Right now I have more than enough other work on the cars to keep me busy. The FB needs tires and I still need to find adjustable seat rails (and another seat) for it so other people can drive it/ride along. I have to upgrade the FD to the point that it blows the trans, so I can then swap in a manual (Already have some goodies to go on, but need a few more before they do). Also, my long neglected TDI is overdue for a timing belt swap and new oil/glow plugs (possibly a manual swap as well).

your car would be faster if you washed it.

probably... it's pretty dirty. That's probably at least a pound worth of pollen on it. You're welcome to come over and wash my car whenever you want.

haha yeah.... I ordered some stiffer rear springs

wider fenders may be in my future... 275 hoosiers are a smidge too big for stock FC rear fenders... They're also rubbing on the inside lol
