I've done the drive in one day. I don't recommend it. It required a lot of coffee and monsters. Even then I was still a zombie by the time we hit the boarder. But what do I know, I'm one of the youngin's.

I gather the leaving has a lot to do with when the resort is booked. I know we have it for friday, sat, sunday. Having it sunday leaves somewhere for us to stay after the mitty.

Also us "old" guys want to arrive early on friday to have time to relax and enjoy the day and I for one can tell you I am not driving down in one day

i hope we all align and leave early thurday and get pretty much there and have only a few hours to drive on friday....

Can't wait. 3 weeks or something......

Bunch of whingers.
Wish I even had the option of doing it in one day, but not mathematically possible. About 26 hours of drive time each way at a speed that will keep us out of jail, not accounting for food and (frequent) fuel stops.
Rather than 2 killer days (14-16 hours each with food and fuel factored in) we are splitting over three with the idea of early evening arrival on Thursday so we can enjoy the cabin.
I'm starting to get excited. Fired up the RX8 for the first time this week, and rescued a stranded FB on the side of the road on Tuesday.. must almost be spring! (I hope)

Rick, it's all good, i'm fine with doing it in a day, i didn't think anyone else would want to though originally so I planned for two. Now that I've scheduled for one day, I ain't going back. But we'll still talk.

Anyway, I still haven't gotten a nice *** groove into my seat, so this long drive will definitely help that situation out

Just remember to take the wallet out of the back pocket or you'll not be walking the next day and you'll have a nice square indent to go with the *** groove.

Just, got my TripTik from CAA/AAA and their warning US 19 in West Virginia epsecially around Summerville WV is full of speed traps, so watch it on this stretch of highway on your way down.

What is that? Like a temporary CAA? I may need to get one.

No, as a CAA member the TripTik is something they do for free, they set -up a route in a small binder with small maps, warnings and road construction. Also they gave me free area maps in my case, AAA North & South Carolina, Northeastern States & Provinces and a Southeastern States maps plus the TripTik binder with my route which is about the size of a folded map. Also they gave me a large paperback lodgings book for Georgia, North & South Carolina. Plus if my car breaks down in the U.S.A free towing and roadside assitance all for about a $100 bucks a year for any car I drive even your as long as I'm driving.

Bonus:
If you break down at the track and you can get someone to tow you to the main gate, CAA will tow you home. Not personal experience but I've heard of guys doing it!

I'm definitely getting CAA this year after breaking down in Michigan last summer.

Not sure if the Tim Horton's you guys met up at in Windsor is the same one as 08/09, but if it is they just shut that one down earlier this year. There is another one a km or so closer to the bridge on the left before the KFC though.

Good call on the CAA. I might just subscribe to that.

I just seafoam'd my 8, I mean, I just smoked out the neighbourhood.
Sounds nice and purry, ready for the mountains.

OH jeez, I forgot that that timmies is closed now!

New meet spot should be the timmies at the corner of TECUMSEH RD. and HURON CHURCH RD. It's on the same side as the one we met at before, just 2-3KM closer to the bridge. It's only about 1KM from the bridge entrance, at a big main intersection, on the right hand side. Across the street is Studio 4, and on that corner is a shell gas station as well (the tim hortons is set back about 200' from huron church rd).

Don't you think it is going to look suspicious when a whole bunch of rotories hit the border crossing at the same time? What if one of us gets hung up at the border? Maybe we should spread out and meet on the other side, after we cross.

I actually prefer crossing at Sarnia/Port Huron. So if we plan to meet on the America side, I can head down to Detroit and catch up with you all there...if I time it right. While we're waiting for the group to assemble on the US side, we could buy some groceries...you know...beer and liquor.

There will probably be 10+ kiosks, just spread out when entering the american side.
They wouldn't notice, they process so many cars everyday.

They noticed last year with just our 4 cars. I heard the one guard say "What's up with all the Mazdas?" Worst case we do what we did last year. Those who get through just keep on driving and grab a hotel at the end of the day. Everyone else can catch up. Just make sure we exchange cell phone #'s etc. before we leave good old Canadian soil.

I'm crossing at 5:30am and meeting up with the Detroit crowd at 6 down the road. I have a "family" in my car (wife and kid), usually is good to go.
My parts are coming in the mail, I'm getting exited!

holy crap!! You're crossing so early!
I thought you'd be crossing sometime at 8am or something...
I think the rest of the Canadian crowd is going to have to convoy down by ourselves...

I might have to head out early as well. Need to swing by lugwig motorsports. Wonder if it would be a good idea to book a hotel close to the gap for thursday night and we meet up all there if lost or others have a separate way.

You can bring a sleeping bag if you want. I live 2 mins from the Bridge.

I'm checking in on Thursday. I want to relax in a hot tub on Thursday night.

Ok, Chad is an early bird, but what about the rest of us?

I thought we were meeting up around mid-morning and then crossing over.

Just in case, could we set up a rendezvous for lunch in Toledo? That way if some are late or some are early, we have a half hour for people to sync up.

On I-75 at mile-marker 203 Exit-B (which comes before Exit 203A), there is a McDonalds at the corner of North Detroit Ave and Monroe St (3008 Monroe St, actually). Just a suggestion.

Yes, we'll have to get the morning schedule pointed out.
Who's coming down from where?

I think we'll be having 2-3 people from the GTA area. But we don't know where to rendezvous.

I still don't know what our groups plans are exactly, but we're in the GTA as well.

I know everyone has been mentioning crossing in windsor, but from my address, google maps shows crossing in fort erie saves us half an hour. don't know what peoples routes are.

I keep teetering back and forth between leaving wednesday or thursday. Our cabin is booked from the thursday though
