Dgrr 2011!

Ya, price wise I forgot to factor in for the guys that need high octane. I was driving the old GXL last year. I miss those days of 30mpg on 87 octane........
We can all share the same cabin. There are 4 bedrooms in the cabin we had last year plus a futon, couches in the living room and LOTS of floor space. One person will have to organize booking it and then divide the cost amongst all those who will be staying there. If there are too many people we could get 2 cabins........

Just letting everyone know there's been a date change:
April 16th - 18th, 2010

However, Phil posted on his Facebook couple of hours ago that he might have to move the date due to a conflict with The Mitty at Road Atlanta.

I hope not either. Those are good dates for me. Apparently the "featured marque" at The Mitty this year is Mazda, Jim Downing is the Grand Marshall etc. so a lot of the southern US Mazda people are conflicted.
It's a little too far south for me, so I wouldn't really be going to that anyway. Here's hoping the DGRR stays as it is.

I've got two delivery notices from Canada Post, so that should be my used front struts, my wheel bearings and studs. Once the snow melts I'll be slapping her back together (properly) and then I'm not doing a damn thing but driving her.
We had a cabin the first two years that had 4 rooms with 5 beds. Don't remember the cabin number though. These cabins are fantastic. Hot tub, amazing view, 2 bathrooms, satellite TV, fully outfitted kitchen. The works folks. This trip really is a no brainer. Pinch your pennies, get the car running reliably and pack some tools. My clutch blew on me in 09. Had to drive 1300km home on it and when I pulled the trans it came out in pieces. Spent about $500USD. Brought a grand with me because I was planning to join the guys that were heading to Florida. This year however, one thing needs to change. It's my vacation, so getting up at 6am in Cincinnati to bust my *** to get to the resort by 5pm is a little much. We need to hit the border a hell of a lot earlier than 09. Get the car packed and ready the night before, and lets get there at a decent hour so we aren't driving rushed, hungry and tired. If anyone wants a head start I'm sure there's some folks closer to the border that will offer a couch/recliner/air mattress. I have all of the above, although you'll only fit on the couch if your a midget. Can't wait. I almost want to go outside with my propane torch and melt all the snow around my car so I can get to work.
Also there's been ads EVERYWHERE for GoPro Camera's. I suggest you spend the $300 and get one. They are awesome. I've got an older model and am getting the new improved model for Christmas. I wanted them specifically for this trip. Unfortunately all my vids from 09 were deleted when I reformatted my laptop.

I think you guys had cabin #220 in the past years. It looks like a nice cabin, but I've heard horror stories about trying to drive the road to get to it. The one we had last year (#180) was still nice, way up on the mountain, but wasn't a car killer to get to. There were 2 nice sharp hair pins where your inside back wheel lost traction but that's it. No scraping front bumpers or anything like that.
I'm also in for leaving earlier if I go. Meeting at like 4pm and then heading to the boarder really didn't work out well last year. You never know when you might get stuck at the boarder for THREE HOURS!!!! Ian, no honey for you this year......

Err.. partially right. April 16-18 2010 was for the event earlier this year. The website has not been updated with the 2011 dates yet.
However, Phil posted on his Facebook couple of hours ago that he might have to move the date due to a conflict with The Mitty at Road Atlanta.

I say we go through a different border too. Screw Detroit/Windsor, last year really left a bad impression. Out of 4 cars only one got away without being pulled off and questioned. Only reason that happened too was because my car was the most stock looking of them all. The Rx-4 on the other hand will get pulled for sure, unless I take the gauges off of the cowl. I did design them to be removable just for that purpose.

We could cross in Port Huron. They are generally nicer there, and during the week traffic isn't as bad. Aside from Dan it's pretty much the same distance to go there and cross. For anyone up north it will actually be closer. Anytime I cross to go race in Michigan or cut through up to Winnipeg that's the border I take. Also they seem to like cars. I've had a few compliments on mine while crossing. However if your flagged at Detroit you'll be flagged and secondaried in Port Huron.
