You probably won't have a problem crossing in detroit, I cross about 60 times a year now and (almost) never have an issue.

I'm still going, and it's becoming more and more obvious that the GTR won't be done on time. So I'll probably just take my miata, or maybe tow my friend in my F250. Where's everyone staying? I'm not sure I have somewhere to stay.

Some of the guys from our group got stuck there for 3 hours last year. We all got split up and it was a huge mess.

I've never had a problem at either crossing, I just prefer Port Huron. The line can be a bit much on some days in the summer though.

Crunch Time!

Crunch Time!
Really starting to run out of time! Started some more new install this evening and hopefully be finished by the weekend, SS Brakes & clutch lines, speed-bleeder for clutch & brakes as well. Full tranny, diff, brake flush and install a sway bar brace. But did notice I have a minor coolant leak towards the front of the car after install new belts and a pettit power pulley, I may have over tensioned the belts but for the life of me can't find the leak which only ocurrs on startup. The 7 is going in next week for a rad flush and a good check-up and maybe on a lift they can see where the hell it is. Also still need to get my alignment & corner balancing done with only a few clear weekends left.
Anyways is everyone ready and their 7's in tip-top shape for the long drive down or are you in the same shape as me trying to get the last **** all done!

HA! My Rx-4 is still in pieces and it's going to get worse before it gets better. The engine and trans are out right now. Still have to yank the front brakes and struts and the rear axle. This is gonna get tight for time....

On a side note I've sort of decided on a route. I think we'll do the I75 drive down so we get there in good time. We can then decide together on a route home if we want to take a scenic route. I say we try and meet at the Tim Hortons in Windsor that we met at last year around 10:30 or 11:00 am on Thursday. We can then cross the boarder and hope for the best. That should give us a good jump on time so we can arrive early afternoon on Friday. The photo shoot is a 3pm I'm told so I'd like to get there for that.

So you better get to work, I stopped in to the local CAA last Friday to pick up a new temp card and order a route kit which should be next week. Scottish and myself are going to try to be down there late Thursday evening to be all rested for Friday, but hopefully we meet on route. GL with the Frankenrotor but you have a real garage HA!

Right now my car is in my buddy's shop where I stored it for the winter. It isn't heated hence the hold up. It has been too damn cold to work out there.

/\This doesn't compute./\

There are quite a few of us leaving on Thursday. There is a group of 7/8's leaving Detroit early Thursday. I spoke with a couple of them 'bout a month ago and I will touch base with them. I am leaving Thursday and I had a couple people from Michigan/Ohio/Kentucky that would like to join up.

I started a thread on the 8club for Thursday if you guys want to caravan. I will also entertain the thought of a Caravanserai at my house Wed night for those that live up north and don't want to drive 12+hours.

Buggy, I never thought something like a little cold would every slow you down. Doug and myself were in the garage every other weekend all winter long the only heat sources was a 200 watt mini furnace and the shop lights, sometimes it was cold as hell!

if we meet in windsor at 11AM on thursday, there's no reason AT ALL why we can't be at deal's gap thursday night. it's a 10 hour drive (with stops).

so that gets us there at like 9PM.

That's if you drive like a bat out of hell, have no hold ups at the boarder, don't have to make any stops for any kind of car issues...... I'm leaving a window there just in case. I know I'll be making fairly frequent stops because the Rx-4 isn't exactly "long trip" friendly. The fuel cell is fairly small so I'll have to stop for gas about every 175 to 200 miles max. We drove home in one shot last year. We left Nantahala at like 9am and didn't hit the boarder until around 11pm. We were hauling *** on the interstate. I'd rather take my time and enjoy the drive rather than push like hell to get there as quick as possible. Just my 2 cents....

I made it to Gatlinburg in 8-9 hours with a toddler the past four times from Windsor. It's not that bad of a drive.

I wish doing the trip in one day was even an option for us.
Approx 2600km each way for us (depending on route) so we are spreading it over 3 days planning arrive around supper time on Thursday.

As for the RX8, it's still in winter storage, but doesn't really "need" anything other than a good protective layer of Zaino before we leave, although I would like to finish getting the Access Port tuned. If I'm feeling paranoid I might take a day and change all the fluids.
The thought of driving the 7 down makes me laugh...

I didn't really take into consideration the huge detour we had to make last year because of 129 being closed and we partially got lost...... Our cabin is booked for Friday, Saturday, Sunday so I'd prefer to arrive early Friday. The earlier the better that way we can settle in and get our cars cleaned up for the photo shoot. I'll talk to the people staying in my cabin and see what they want to do.

I, unfortunately to say, haven't even started my preparations yet. Fortunately, my plate isn't that bad although. Just an alternator, hood, rad, clutch master + slave cylinder, shouldn't be that bad.

I started the car up last friday though which went excellent, and she's ready to go, just need to make sure that everything is fresh for the trip.

Just wanted to add that the snow today does not help with getting things ready!

guys,
does anyone still need a hotel?
turns out EVERYONE that was supposed to be in my group, myself included, can't make it because of employment or school or other such swinery.

if someone still needs a cabin plz PM me. i should have a final answer in about 2 hrs on whether or not everyone's bailed and it's available.

I've already paid the 150$ deposit so all you would need to do is send me that. i'll call NVNC and have them move the reservation check-in to your name, then just pay the balance when you show up.

That is unfortunate. Maybe we need to make a new list who is still coming and then we need to update our window cling stickers.

You gotta try for next year for sure. No matter what I book the time off......

I'm still 100% in.

I also still need somewhere to stay.

I won't be taking the GTR, here's a picture I took of it as of tonight:

I'll get my miata running at some point in the next two weeks and get it ready for the trip, or, I'll just tow my friend down and not worry about it.

Terrh: When were you heading down?
We've got ample room, and are now thinking of sub-letting out a bit of space. We've got a big cabin from thurs-sunday night (arriving Thursday, leaving Monday morning.) We're in Fontana View a couple of miles down the road. Stayed there last year (overflow) and liked it so much, we just booked there this year and didn't even both with NVNC.

I'll probably make it there thursday night, but it doesn't really matter to me. I guess I'm going to convoy with the detroit crew.
