Mazdaspeed hood seems to be bit different from the replica that was made back when. The MS CF hood might be prepreg carbon/dry carbon. After primed and painted, I could still see the carbon pattern underneath. The painter asked me if I wanted re-done, but I kind of liked it after seeing it in person. I have a sheet for how to paint MS hood but forgot to give it to the painter...

Other carbon hoods I've gotten it painted, the resin makes it like any other FG or oem hood. MS one is just little bit different.

Downside.. Well, I don't really see the downside. This MS hood was my 2nd one I bought. There were hood pin holes and one of the corner was damaged. That was the main reason I got it painted. I have the new MS CF hood which I will keep it as is.

Motecs are so expensive. I've checked into it and too much for what it is. Also, someone told me AEM might be a good one to get. I'll do some research on AEM in next month or two.

Yep; think about all the supercars that are made from bare CF; most of them are painted.

Update:

I'm starting to put things together over past few days..

MB FD - Putting in the HID head light kit by SportTuner.com I'll post pics of this kit later. I'm also putting in the Feed signal light kit with HIDs installed also.

SSM FD - Took the stock bumper off, cleaned everything, and getting ready to put the stock head lights back on, the 99 bumper on, and the MS hood. I'm hoping all will be done by this sunday.

Interesting, I didn't know anyone else offered a popup bi-xenon kit:

http://www.sporttuner.com/Electrical.html

That's a great price also. Still like my sleepy eye HID conversion better

David,

Yeah, I didn't know it until SportTuner guy got in touch with me.

They are going to offer a special buy for DGRRX. If 25 sets are sold for $600 shipped, they are going to give one or two sets to be given out at DGRRX.

More info on the special is set up on RCC

Just posted there. They look really nice for those that want to keep the full popup height. Look to be very professionally done in fact.

Far as quality of the kit, it looks great... But I didn't get to work on the MB.

I did however did some work on the SSM... Put the stock lights on (minus a bracket and couple of screws).

And with 99 rebar and lights on..

that kit from sporttuner.com is $700? you know that it's just a clear lens housing with this $100 chinese-made "angel eye" projector kit mounted inside + some cheap ballasts...

here is the kit that they mount inside a set of clear-lens light housings:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=270405493333

if you were making the lights yourself (i.e. putting those $99 projectors in some housings), sure this might be a good cheap option, but buying the kit reatail for $700...talk about mega-markup!

I'll say few words as SportTuner is going to give 1 or 2 sets away @ DGRR.

Price for these are actually $600 shipped via DGRR GB. Regarding lights.. he tells me that his supplier is from Taiwan but not sure if they the same ones as you've posted. He did tell me that cheap projectors that looks similar are plastic but the ones he uses are metal.

I know projectors are different from one to another. I can't say what these will be like, but I've also heard issues with SakeBomb lights too and we'll see how these do once they are installed in my car. One thing I could say is that the workmanship does look great on these.

oh trust me i'm not trying to bash or anything like that.

i have a cheap set of non-projector pnp HIDs myself! honestly i would be happy with any sort of projector upgrade

i just looked at the site you posted and saw the $700 listed price, and remembered seeing the exact same projector lens piece for sale on ebay for like $100 and i just couldnt figure out the $700 price tag (listed only $50 cheaper than the sakebomb kit)

i would love to have either kit

let us know how those work out for you. and definitely post some pics!

Tom,

Far as what I know, the housings are the same ones SakeBomb is using. Projectors are different but we'll see how these lights up.

And by what I read on their group buy, their kit will go up to $850

Anyhow, I'm very close to installing these and I'll put my honest 2 cents in. At this point, I'm just letting people know and hope they donate couple to DGRRX.

My progress as of today..

I've now installed the FEED signal lights with HIDs. They are pretty bright!! I'm finishing up the wiring with stock plug ins for them and after that, I'll be tackling the SportTuner lights. I should have all put together by end of this weekend.... unless the little one comes before than.

On SSM, I'm waiting on couple of missing parts for the stock head light assembly. I should have the parts in by end of this weekend.. Hopefully.

Here is my progress for today..

I've finally installed the FEED signal with HIDs and also the Sport Tuner head lights.. both took some time placing the HID ballasts and getting the wires all straight. Anyhow, here are some pics.

Here are some comparison pics between my Acura TL HIDs and the projector style Sport Tuner HIDs.

My TL

Sport Tuner HID projects on the FD

Different exposure

Also, I finally installed the 99 bumper on the SSM FD.

And found the brackets and bolts for the head lights.. Just finished the driver's side only.. I'll finish it tomorrow.

One question and then a comment. The FEED lights - the HID part is the larger of the lights, correct? If so, do they blind the oncoming traffic as they don't look to be projector style?

Now my comment - I am very impressed with the Sport Tuner light output and cutoff. Looks to be a good alternative for those that want popups.

What are your thoughts regarding the quality of the kit? Is the projector module really metal or is it plastic as been alleged? And do you know what style HID bulbs are used in the kit? Are they D2R or something else?

Oh yeah! They aren't really projector type and they are very bright!

Well, I haven't had the chance to drive with the lights.. Just shining them on my garage door. But compare to my TL lights, they seem bit brighter and has similar cut off.

Quality seems pretty good. Came to my door very well packed and instruction was good. My only wish was that there was a wiring diagram but the owner of SportTuner told me he has it. But it wasn't too hard to figure out anyhow.. Mounting the ballast and the relay was bit challenging as I had very little room to work with. And couple of ground wires, I had extended to get a better ground (to the battery). Overall pretty easy install.

Regarding Projector module... It was hard to tell as I couldn't take it off the housing.

This is what SportTuner wrote about the projectors.

We then chrome the cast metal body in house and assemble the body and lens in house. The projector is a Bi-Xenon design utilizing the standard shutter and plate system to create the beam cutoff and to control the High and Low beam pattern. This system was designed using the UNECE (ECE for short) standard. I can produce the projector in RHD (Right Hand Drive) or LHD (Left Hand Drive) pattern per customer request. The projector uses a TC-DS2 style bulb with built in AMP connector utilizing a simple retaining nut to hold the bulb in place making changing of the bulb easier and eliminating the large block or igniter connector used by other HID bulbs.

The rest of the parts are sourced thru a couple of suppliers in Taiwan which manufactures our harnesses and ballasts. The ballasts we use are built to our requirements with a digitally control PCM unit with multiple built in protection circuits and built in power indicator. The ballast is designed to protect against voltage spikes and hot starts just to name a few. The ballast uses a cast housing with built in heat sink to help dissipate any heat build up as well as being completely epoxy sealed to keep it waterproof. Igniters are built in to help reduce size and we use standard 9006 power input plug and AMP output connectors. These units are 35watt ballasts which utilizes less power than your factory low beam halogen bulb after start up.

Thanks! I know... I'm waiting on my MS CF lip from being replicated and repaired. Should get it in next 2-3 weeks.. I'll probably put the plastic 99 lip in next week or so if I don't get the MS CF lip back in time.

REGARDING THE SPORT TUNER HID LIGHTS:
I just got off the phone with the owner of Sport Tuner and I am very impressed. First, these ARE NOT the cheap knockoffs you see on eBay. Those are actually copies of Sport Tuner's and were stolen from his design and manufacturer. Th eBay ones are plastic and his are all metal, sealed units with proper HID bulbs and cutoffs.

The Sport Tuner units are an integrated unit and are not a cut up housing with the projectors glued into them. They use a 55mm projector which is smaller than what most use and have the halo ring around them. Don't know that I care one way or the other about this but some of you might like it.

All in all, a nice option for you full height popup guys

Glad you talked to the owner. He is very knowledgeable guy and I'm happy with the result so far (still need to take it for a ride).

Anyhow, I just took the FD out for a spin and took some pics of the FEED HIDs. I wired them so that I could turned them on without turning on the head lights. They so bright I can't take pics at night.. Here are some crappy cell phone pics..

David, I think you'll be proud of me... I'm following your foot step
