Figured I would start a build thread so I Can keep track of what I have done on my car and the issues that come up. I have had my Rx7 for about two years now. This is from the first day I picked it up.

going to slowly fill in what has happened to date! but for now this is a start!

Pretty much the car came as it... I knew it turned over and I knew it did not come with a front bumper, headlight cover, passenger seat, and cat back exhaust... I Picked up the front bumper and a pettit exhaust off the forum from a member and installed and found a headlight cover that I spray painted black so it would somewhat match the car.

Right from the start the problems persist! As soon as registration came in and the bumper and exhaust was in we fire up the car and it starts to over heat instantly! Me and Mobeoner were hoping it was not a coolant seal. luckily it was was a quick swap of a radiator cap and the thermostat and it was good to go!

On the Inaugural drive home from my friends house where we were working on it. Mobeoner while driving my car decides to try gun it a little and POP goes the clutch cable and now we are stranded right off the Highway in Brooklyn. Luckily with him having mass amounts of parts in our garage we picked up a spare and did a swap on the side of the road! (this was very soon afterward updated to a stainless one)

After that minor glitch I was driving the car just fine for quite a few months (just with a bad clutch which was slipping).

So after a while of driving around with a bad clutch I realized that it was time to swap out! I went ahead and purchased a stage 2 exedy clutch kit.

Car jacked up on stands with the PPF and the tranny coming down.

Tranny clutch and tranny and everything all back in

oh but of course that did not go in with out a problem. Turns out the car had a OS GIken clutch assembly in it which made the swap all that much harder, now not only did I need to also get a flywheel which I picked up I think it was a 11lbs one. The set up was a push type clutch assemble and I now needed to get a regular pull type fork assembly.

Simple enough to find the fork assembly, but the slave cylinder bracket was just a bit off with the set up... and POP there went the slave cylinder because it went straight threw. but after some local help I was able to get that in and get the car back on the road.

Here is a picture of the clutch push type we pulled out.

I was driving around with no passenger seat for a while and it did not really bother me! then one day I was driving my car and was stopped by a chick who needed directions... she literally cut her self off and said "wow, that's a really nice car, you need to give me a ride if your car" I told her I had no seat but yet she still got into the car in high heels and a cocktail dress and sat on the passenger floor where all my tools and stuff were laying! I gave her a ride, drove her back to where I picker her up from, got her number... and said! Damn I need to get a passenger seat!

I picked up a set of Tan seats from a member (zeke542) who said he did not need them, super nice guy. I now was driving with a suede driver side seat and a Tan Leather passenger side seat! everyone who knows me from the meets knew how dumb that looked! but it was a seat! this was back in September of 09 wow I am way back on this stuff!

Shortly after I get the seats in and the clutch assembly together and am working on breaking in the car clutch. It was already getting close to winter and was time to put the car in the garage for the cold and then I decided to take the car out for one last spin around the neighborhood. I go to the gas station, and go over a small bridge from Brooklyn to LIC and gun it a little. Nothing was out of the ordinary while driving, car backfired as it did sometimes when I shifted harder. I come to a slow down at the light the car is barely staying on. I was like, WTF is this, did I run out of gas, or the alternator is dieing or something.

I drive the car back to my garage while its smoking and backfiring like crazy... I am still talking to my self that its just a vacuum leak from the rats nest. that's all. that's all. and then Mobeoner comes by the garage and we test the compression just in case and the rear rotor reads a big fat 0. and that's how I ended the first season of my rotary owning experience. WITH A BLOWN MOTOR!

After I blew that motor. the car sat there for a while and at one point my garage rent was increased way too high and the car needed to be moved to the new garage... luckily the car still started and ran on one rotor. me with mobeoner behind me drove to the new location which was about 6 miles away... car backfiring and smoking the whole way there. We get there and get all of our stuff moved in and after a little while of the car sitting there I went a little crazy with buying parts.

-I found a petit street ported motor with rebuilt turbos
-Power FC and commander
-Commander mount
-Greddy FMIC
-KOYO Radiator
-Greddy Pulleys
-Greddy Elbow
-new ignition coils
-Finally got matching base seats
and I am sure I am missing something but that was the jist of the purchasing.

and with that the swap was about to go underway.

Then went ahead and bought a engine lift and out with the old and prepping the new

In goes the new motor... also forgot to note, I got a set of IRP medium mounts and oil pan brace.

after that motor went in and was getting ready to get dressed up.

Then came the intercooler set up since the motor was now in... this is what it looks like in my kitchen.

Then after ripping out AC items and swapping in the new KOYO radiator with some brackets. on went the GREDDY FMIC.

Seats went out to make room for new seats.

After everything on the motor was back on... I ran into a small problem... the stock battery would not fit into the stock location because of the size of battery and the new koyo location. So not being able to wait... I went and got a small Optima battery which STILL did not fit in the stock location. so I ran some wires and had my battery located on my passenger side floor! (Many people joked about that for about 8 months that it stayed in that location)

With that we were able to turn the car over but could not warm it up for long because of the intense amount of smoke from the car... and the neighbors were bitching about the smoke... so we went and rolled out the car again to try to get it started and running outside in the lot,

After some issues with getting it started and then getting it to turn back on... (loose ground on the starter) the car was on and ready to smoke up the lot.

Car was not on and starting but had trouble starting back up while the car was hot. (I still have that problem) Car was also filthy as hell from being in a dusty garage for the winter.

Interesting thread. I hear you on the smoke problem, but you're in Brooklyn! That has to be a lot more neighbors than me. Last time I did the ATF trick someone called the fire department so I only do it at night now.

oh yeah, and with the move from one garage to the other and after we had the motor in, we did not have enough room for all our stuff so we got a storage unit for the extra goodies that we did not need to use on a regular basis...

soon after all that I took the car out for its inaugural ride and a much needed wash. ahhhh the car looked so good with the FMIC installed.

Car is on this set up untill this past friday, car runs better than before since we ripped out the rats nest and are now running non sequential twins... but with my luck there was a boost leak somewhere which till now I still can not find.

Car made it out to the carlisi meet

and to the five points meet

even made it to almost every thursday night meet and took it out as much as I could for the weekends.

Hell, even got myself a nice speeding ticket right before the winter... was clocked at 129 but the cop wrote it down to 109... still waiting on the court date to see what happens with this. (I did beat the new M3 though)

Since then for the winter the car has been sitting and I have been buying goodies for the car and getting ready for the single set up... the cars turbo was already blown from some thing... and the car just does not run right... so this will bring me to a quickened story of the rx7 life up until today. I am sure I missed some stuff but either way... I am excited on the changes happening now, and just wanted to get things caught up.

Yeah man the smoke was insane. One neighbor always had a issue with the cars even before the smoke. He was bitching that the cars smelled like gas, even when they weren't on. Lol.

I thought the smoke was from the breaking in of the motor from being just installed. But turned out that when I eliminated my OMP I put in premix for half a tank and turned out I only had like a 10th of gas. So it was smoking the premises. After some gas. It was smoke free (for now)
