Kilo Racing 3 Rotor FD Conversion
By "Steve" I'm assuming that you mean Mr. Kan? Did he tune it last time? For some reason I thought Kilo performed your last tune? Will Steve or Kilo be performing your retune?
Steve Osley is "the guy" up here in Asheville. Fantastic mechanic and tuner. He's the one that tuned the car a few months ago and he just installed the new Haltech PS2000. Great guy and I highly recommend him.
^ Hah, I think I will keep the carpet just to **** off everyone
Car is doing well. Dyno'd in at 675 WHP at 18 PSI with the Microtech. We have now installed the Haltech and are doing some final tweaking before taking the car back to the dyno. Not so concerned about making bigger numbers, just want to ensure the tune is great.

Are you still running at old and outdated T78 turbo?
^ Car was running fine but it should run even better with the improved functionality of the Haltech. Has much better mapping capabilities and resolution, runs at a faster speed, and controls the OMP. Haltech has sponsored me so they provided the ECU, wiring harness, and ignitor, plus the tuner up here knows the PS2000 inside and out. All in all, should lead to much improved drivability if not more HP.
Yes, still running that old T78 turbo
Would swap it out for one of the billet style turbos but that is down on my list for now. The turbo has a small hot side so it spools very nicely and it makes the power I want, so it's staying on for now. Wanna sponsor me for one of the new billets?

I dont mean to derail the thread, and maybe Im just completely in the dark but I never quite understood the whole sponsorship thing? Do you just call around and ask for free ****? I mean its not like its a race car with their logo plastered on the side for advertising. Just wondering how that all works. Id like some free stuff
Yes, the AEM coils have built in ignitors and they are being installed on the car now. They are not provided, however, by Haltech. As the car had MSD coils on it, I asked Haltech for a PS2000, a wiring harness, and an high-output ignition module. One of the MSD coils has gone out though, so we are taking this as a good time to go with the AEM coils and test them out.
In short, yep, that's the way it works. You ask and hope they say yes. I also did a little more than this by putting together a sponsorship package that includes all the details on the car and how the relationship will help them through exposure. I spent a fair amount of time researching different products and companies to determine who I wanted to target. Ended up with a pretty good success and will continue working on some of the companies that I'd still like to get on board.

BTW, those coils are awesome. I am very happy with mine.

. i'm FDless and i'm considering buy another one but i dont want to get into that mess again.. even though i know what route to take now. i would have to sell the TT z06 first..
Too funny. As you know the 3 rotor conversion is difficult although you went through a bunch and I am sure you know what to do now.
^ So, okay it's true but it's the tan carpet that's all gone
Took some time to burn but once it caught fire, that stuff went up in smoke. A rotary bonfire.
So, spent yesterday taking out the dash, removing the tan carpet, and starting to reinstall the new black carpet. I ordered the new carpet from Auto Interior and Upholstery--Leather Seat Covers and Molded Carpets and got the "mass backing" option on it. This adds a think rubberized coating to the back of the carpet. Makes it more difficult to install, but will be worth it for the extra sound and heat insulation. Total cost of carpet shipped to me: $211.19.
The carpet is molded perfectly and fits great. It's also a really nice cut pile that to me, is nicer than the stock loom stuff. They offer an "ultra plush" version but I don't recommend this as the standard is very nice. You can also request the OEM loom look if you'd like as a special order. At $200 bucks, this is a no brainer if you don't mind ripping apart the interior.
Much thanks to Steve Osley for his expert advice and hands on help. Have never done this before so was not very comfortable with taking everything out. It's not that difficult once you know which bolts to remove and wiring clips to pull part. Maybe I should wait on this comment to see if I can get everything back together first
My biggest issue is all the aftermarket wiring in the dash. From radio stuff to LED lights to other stuff, it's a mess in there. So one good byproduct of doing this is I am going to spend some time cleaning up everything before I put it back together.
So the current state of the car is the dash is out, the tan carpeting is removed (and burnt to a crisp), and the new carpet is partially installed and test fitted. Going back Monday morning to try to finish it all up.

Man I read the update on my phone before seeing the rest of the thread and felt sick for you!
Cruel Joke!
I am waiting with baited breath on your re-map.
Cannot wait to get mine running now!

My jaw dropped.....
Did the new heat shield work out for you?

Heh heh, just couldn't resist posting that up
. Nice fire though right? Yes the heat shield is great Elliot. I'll post up pics of it once I am done with the carpet install. Very high quality shield.

Lmao. this is the quote EVERY RX7 owner lives by......... haahaa looks good i might have to hop on the new carpet wagon... did the slit on the trans tunnel come like that or you did that?
^Yep, now I know why everyone else says that. It's a mess under the dash. The carpet comes in one piece. For ease of install, I cut it into two as the tunnel cover will hide the cut.
All of the aftermarket carpets come in one piece. This one is molded perfectly where I hear others are not quite so good.

Hah, too funny about the credible part. Spent all day cutting and trimming on the carpet and it's finally in. A competent person could do this much quicker but I didn't want to screw up so I took my time. Also made good headway on the wiring and removed a bunch of stuff that is no longer needed. Going back to it tomorrow to see what I can get done before I have to leave for FL for the rest of the week.
IT'S ALL GONE
After all this work, had a fire last night and it's all gone. Just stood there as it burned:
