i have heard a variety of exhaust sytems and setups on numerous FDs, both in person and in videos, and i have come to the conclusion that FDs sound like ****. (but i still love em! )

what is your opinion on the worst sounding exhaust system for the FD??

 

BTW, if this gets moved to the Polls section....im gonna be royally pissed!

 

I just got my FD 2 weeks ago and the exhaust is all rotted out, so this is as good a time as any to go aftermarket. I have never heard any aftermarket on an FD...out of curiosity, what was the FD in F&F running? I didnt think that system sounded too bad, definitely had more of a rumble/hum than the Eclipse and typical fart can.

 

I have a pfs on my 94 which I like and a rb dual on my 93 which is actually a little quiet but I am adding a highflow so hopefully that will raise the volume a bit. I actually like the exhaust note especially when the 13b is buzzing around the track shootin flames. I don't like pettits intake noise but I think its the best one right now. Greddy exhaust sound is really annoying especially when decelerating. Sorry I just can't stop IMO pfs is the best flowing, sounding, and lightest exhaust.

 

I think the HKS TI sounds awesome. potatobbq (mark) can attest to this. It's loud but not in an annoying honda way.

 

I don't see my exhaust up there ... probably because it's da illest, foo.

 

Don't think an FD will ever sound like the one in F&F... They could've at least used something other than a piston motor sound effect for that one.

 

the trust evolution 2 (greddy j-spec) sounds amazing, it sounds good at idle and not too loud, but when the turbo on at like 4-5k it sounds sick(in a good way), it sounds awesome under overpasses when it echoes because the people around you are like WTF? its fun when you're racing someone and you go under the bridge next to them and they get all scared because they don't know where all the sound is coming from. i think it sounds good all the way through the power band.

heh, hell yea. hks ti is loud as hell but it still sounds good; sounds like an all out race car.

 

Prolly Borla...i hated all their mufflers

 

The worst one is a Pacesetter. Sounds terrible. Any car that I've seen it on sounds like crap.

 

I haven't heard all of the one's you've listed, but I have heard the GT-Spec and IMO it's way too loud. Unfortunately it's also the best flowing so I'll probably end up buying it and dealing with the noise. I haven't heard it with the silencer, that might help.

Apex N1 Dual is the WORST that ive heard. I had it on my car after I did all my upgrades...couldn't hear myself think. so i stole my friends HKS Hiper it sounds a lot better than the Apexi. still loud as hell though, my exhaust port is really big and squared off so I get a loud poping sound at high RPM's. sounds almost like a "Honda" I want a deeper sound, don't know if ill ever get it though...

It sounds ALMOST like a Ferrari and a HAIR away from a 3 rotor. It's hard to explain. I had my friend stand on the street while I flew by him at high RPM. He says it sounds like NOTHING he has ever heard or like ANY other rotary he has ever heard.

 

do u have a death wish ...dude my best bud has a porsche 951 turbo with a borla 3.5 inch exhaust without cats and that thing sounds deeper and nicer than my stang any day of the week.It sounds just like a RACE CAR...And i love the looks on ppls faces when he tells them its a four banger...

 

you gotta get a recording or video, Mike. i have never heard the Borla on an FD, and i wanna hear if it is as great as you say it is.

but its only 2.5", so that could be a major turn off to most people.

 

I was talking to Cam from Pettit one day, and we were talking about cat-backs. He was telling me that Pettit was the first one to have an aftermarket catback available for the 3rd gen. He said he made a prototype and sent it to Borla, and Borla made all their FD catbacks from that one. Then he goes into a storage room and comes out holding a catback and says "this is the prototype, here, toss it on." So I ran that sucker for a few months before I decided it was too quiet, and moved onto a different exhaust from Pettit. That Borla was nice and quiet, but it would scream at full throttle, and it sounded great! It's OMG loud now (dp, mp, cb, ported turbos) with the new one though. I love it though, and I always hear people say "wow that car sounds awesome!" when I drive by.

 

All the choices you have on your poll sound like sh*t, EXCEPT the Trust Sport Catback (that's the one I have). I especially hate the Apex Duals, and Blitz Nur Spec. I also agree with a previous post, that the PFS catback sounds too anemic (not enough low end grunt).

just be patient joeD. someone will answer your question eventualy. maybe you should yell at the other people who didnt answer correctly instead of asking them for videos of their exhaust.

Don't worry. I plan to upgrade to one with a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets. That WILL sound a lot better and look better, imo.
