true, cannister mufflers on the FD sound really bad, IMO. i have heard both the N1 and the N1 Dual, and they both sound rediculous. im not gonna say Honda-esque, because i personally LOVE the way the Honda V-TEC engine sounds with an aftermarket exhaust system. i think the Integra Type R, NSX, and S2000 all make the most beautiful noises short of a Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLeran F1, and Supra.

honestly, the only time i have heard an FD that sounded nice was with an M2 Intake (dunno if it does anything for sound, but ill list it anyways), M2 downpipe, and Racing Beat Dual Tip exhaust system. i heard that at idle and revv till redline, and it sounded awsome. another FD i heard that sounded great was yesterday at at a Solo2 event. it was completely stock, except for a straight pipe from the cat back.

all other FDs that i have heard in person with different exhaust systems (Apex N1, Apex N1 Dual, GReddy PE, PFS) all sounded terrible.

How come so many of you guys don't like the sound of a lot of the Japanese tuner exhausts? Is it due to the fact that the rotary engine is just plain too loud with a canister type muffler (which most of the Japanese companies use)? I have not yet chosen an exhaust for my FD.. still stock.. I like the look of the N1 dual (close to stock looking.. well sort of) but all these negative comments are making me think twice now.

i dont care much for dB levels. that is not what makes me choose which exhaust system sounds good or not. its all about the tone/raspiness. ive heard cars that were so load they would make your ears bleed, but still sounded good. ive also heard quiet cars that sounded like ****.

BTW, i think the N1 Dual looks awsome right out of the box, and when its brand new after a while, but have you seen how it looks after its on a car for 6+ months?? not a pretty site, IMO. bends, rusts, and just looks like **** after a while...pretty common with single-walled exhaust tips.

Mazdaspeed and RE Amemiya both use regular muffler style exhaust systems on their cars.

It's not the style of exhaust, but the manufacturer. ALL Apexi' systems sound like dump on an FD with open exhaust. Hell, most cars sound like dump with Apexi', my Prelude was a nightmare....they're too loud and obnoxious and they have an annoying drone.

I have the Trust PE II and it looks just like the N1 but sounds nothing like it. It's just like the rest of GReddy products, low and quiet but at WOT it gets deep and mean.

What is this the "dump on Apex'i N1" thread? My N1 dual looks and sounds just great, a little loud perhaps, but nothing like a Honda. Makes going through tunnels a lot more fun as well! I might switch to the Racing Beat dual tip because I prefer a stealthier car but I will miss the sound of the N1 for sure.

Question Loud or bumble bee?

What's up with not liking the N1 duals? They are more realistic for street since they have mid range and all the others are high end.

But why don't you guys like it?

1. Way too loud!
2. Sounds like a bumble bee farting or what?

I think the N1 Dual doens't have enough sound supression since the muffling chambers are so small. Hey, if the majority says it sounds bad, it probably sounds like crap. I've heard it on ApexiRX7s car a long time ago before he sold it and it was straight piped. All I can say is it sounded horrible.

Like JoeD said, it's not the volume, but the tone itself.

Unhappy Worst sounding or loudest?

I wish I could hear the N1 duals now b4 I buy, uhg. I wonder what everyone is comparing to when they say one brand is the worst...anyone heard more than two brands?

I know the poll only fits so many but what about:

* Tanabe
* Turbo Tuff
* Thermal Research & Development
* JIC Magic Titanium

Not saying all hondas sound bad....I love the sound of a modified Type R Integra or modified Civic Si with a quality exhaust system. Especially the beating of that lil 1.8 liter engine at 7 grand. Those cars are not the ones that make that god-awful noise u hear that sounds like a giant mosquito.

It's a combination of near stock looks and low volume. Gotta remember, not everyone likes attention

I say the Apexi GT Spec..sounds very nice --- I had to get rid of the bass so the exhaust wouldn't complete with it..=)

I have racing beat single tip (dual tip was on backorder for too long) and it is soo smooth and quiet that I cannot tell I even have exhaust. That is the way I like it. The cars already get enough attention, and besides who wants their FD to sound like a DX civic with a magnaflow muffler! Real sports cars are about smooth whine of the engine, not the wine of crap exhaust.

very true. i would much rather hear the turbos spool up and engine revv up, rather than the exhaust. i guess thats why the Racing Beat exhaust systems tickle my pickle.

Well I think I'm going to order the GREDDY SP now, was a toss up between that and the Racing Beat, but my mind is made up.

Well, to me the worst sounding exhaust is the stock exhaust. Any 7 with a after market exhaust (except pace setter) is sweet music to my ears! I do have to say that my ASP (MP+ Catback like the HKS RACE Ti) Race with ATR down pipe and a Borla racing XR-1 Muffler to keep the noise on the down low is my favorite. Sounds real nice. I'll to get some audio of it on the net soon.
