welp, i guess i do have a death wish. but borla makes sound not befitting that of a rotary. my gt-spec w/ dp&mp sounds like a race car inside a tunnel too. so what?

I heard a PFS with a DP yesterday and it sounded pretty poor. There was a goofy ringing sound, like a bell was inside it The PEs sounds pretty bad w/o cats, but I think they sound very good with the main cat in place.

I can't believe you people don't like the Greddy PE. It sounds just like stock but a little deeper, most of my friends couldn't tell that I got a catback because it was so quite.

LOL @ rxrotary2_7
hahah

hmm..hedwig the borla hater.
haha
Ya know..i've never heard one..but im hoping and xr-1 welded into my midpipe quiets my n1 dual's down a bit.
I agree..the n1 dual is damn loud. It sounds nice with the silencers in though..but those are power robbing.
The borla better not make it sound funky or anything!

I know it doesn't look the best, big and round, but maybe it sounds alot different with a midpipe. I still have the stock cat and believe me, you won't hear me coming. Maybe I can get one of my friends and I can go get some video of the way it sounds.

I've heard the SP a long time ago and loved it, but I got a really good deal on the PE I couldn't pass up.

I only recommened a tunnel simply because you can REALLY hear how it sounds since the noise is echoing back at you.

Like I said, I had a friend stand on the side of the road while I flew past him at high RPM, and he said it sounded REALLY good. A LOT better than most other mufflers out there. He's also had Borla Mufflers and it made his mustang, which you know mustangs sound like EVERY other mustang, his mustang sounded almost EXACTLY like a NASCAR. I don't like NASCARs, but you know they DO sound good. We have also heard Borla's on other cars, and they always make it sound totally different than other mufflers in a GOOD way.

What I've noticed that is rather typical of the Borla is that it smoothes out the exhaust tones. It actually smoothes out that typical raspiness found with rotaries. It actually did the same with my buddies mustang. Also, he is planning to possibly get a Borla for his 911. At idle, it gives the RX-7 a very low growl to it. As the RPMs increase, it changes in pitch. The higher the RPMS go, the higher the pitch gets while STILL giving it a continous tone and COMPLETLY eliminating that raspy tin can sound that most rotarys have.

Flybye: Do you have a Borla FD catback?? Or did you just simply take like a borla muffler and make a catback? I've often thought of taking a Borla XR-1 3.5" race muffler and making sort of my own cat back, because there is a place not more than 2 minutes from the that bends 3.5" exhaust...

Borla cat-back video

Had to defend the Borla so took a trip around the block with the kid filming. With DP and Borla CB, it's very sweet and resonates nicely at idle and opens up into a scream at rpm(can't tell from this video though). Not raspy, overpowering, or fart-can ricey.

I'm happy with it..

hmm.. 3mb mpeg didnt post even though uploaded.

Currently, I have their CB that was discontinued 4 years ago. It kinda sucks, size wise, but it DOES sound good. It's got a 2.5" inlet and dual 1.75" outlest. I know, rather small, but I gotit for onl $350 back then.

My plans are to get another dual outlet muffler from borla. A 3" inlet and a dual 2.5" outlet. My assumption, is that the reason why it sounds the way it does is because the actual split is within the muffler itself.

Yeeeep, that's the setup I had. I started with just the borla, then dp and borla, then dp, mp, and borla, and I honestly didn't notice too much of a sound difference from start to finish. That muffler was so small, but it just did an increadible job of quieting it down. 3rdgenluvr mentioned the ATR catback, and if I'm not mistaken, Pettit used their mufflers for awhile, because that is the exhaust I have on mine. One of those with both cats on sounded louder then the borla with no catbacks. One interesting note about the borla I had, it was a single tip.

Yeah, but what you heard was whatever sound the post production people dubbed in, cause I don't care what exhaust you have an FD will never sound like the one in F&F.

*EDIT* - Except for Jimlab's and any other V8 conversions of course.

i myself don't like the dual N1. I like the sound mine gives but with 3" out to my turbotuff from pettit it's a bit toooo loud even worse in the morning i'm sure that the cold start is annoying as hell to my neighbors but i rarely let it cold start.
