The fastest I have been in my 7 was 153. I remember it a clear cool summer night coming back from Bethany Beach (Virginia). All straight road I am crusing enjoying my 3 hour drive surprised on how comfortable it is too drive a 7 on long trips. Anyways this Corvette decides he wants to run im doing about 85 I drop it in third and get ready..give him the honks. I pulled away and decided with absolutly no one on the road (3 at night) to keep going. Highbeams on and all I hit about 153mph at this time I am completely stock except reli. mods and HKS exhuast and dp. The Vette wasnt even in my vision. At this speed the car was very stable even with my touring model and no spoiler. The motor was very able and eager to go past this speed (maybe my healthy rebuild?). I was running thru many turns at this speed with no problem too (oviously not 90 degree turns lol). I eventually started to slow down and got out of gear to let the motor chill. My 7 she impressed me so much, I cant imagine people who put 600-700hp in these cars. I got home lifted the hood open to let it cool down rubbed her alittle, closed the garage and passed out. The RX7 nothing can come close to it. (PS even the S4) lol luxury car..

Prodigy...are you getting at what I was thinking? Crazy Dane's FD was in Europe (Sweden?), and he had the stock 180 kmph cluster, so essentially all we know is he broke 112 mph? Cuz that's what I was thinking (although he was obviously pushing 150 easy).
stock "KM/H" cluster in a LHD car? i thought that the only LHD cars were the US spec.

Whoops! lol. I didn't remember the car was LHD. I just figured it was in Europe, so it was prob. a Japanese car.

He has a 300KPH cluster, not a 180.

I have hit 145 on the track at Road American before going into turn 2, just about every time down through the woods. Thats the fastest I have ever gone and there is still lots of room on the RPM's left.

You're right. I was redlining in 4th at VIR at about 120, had to shift to 5th to hit 130.

I thought 7800, Rynberg says 8300, published data says redline is 8000 (not rev limiter)... who knows lol. Point being, at the top of 4th, I don't think you're at 140.

No. Assuming you have a manual with a 4.1 rear end, and stock diameter tires, then the top speeds for 4th gear are as follows:

7800 RPM = 138 mph
8000 RPM = 142 mph
8300 RPM = 147 mph

So you can definitely hit 140 at the top of 4th gear.

172

I used to test my first FD on my local CA, Bay Area freeway, usually right after daybreak. Had a 2.1 mile straight, level road before it curved.

As I was adding power accesories, each time I'd go out and make 4 runs, two in each direction to check the power gains. Initially the 4 runs were from 60 - 150 MPH. Later, as I'd gained power I went 60 - 160 MPH.

One day I decided to keep my foot in it past 160 and reached a true top speed of 172 MPH before the curve. Had it been a longer straight, I might have been able to get a bit more. I remember that the car got kind of light in that curve even as I let off.....

The 172 was a true calculated speed, using the exact tire diameter, gearing and RPM data. The speedometer was pegged at the top, indicating over 180 MPH. That was because I used the 4.3 gears in the rear.

The FD was the most stable high speed car I had ever driven. No drama, what so ever at those speeds. I usually drove with two fingers of my left hand on the wheel while holding the stop watch in the same hand and using the right hand to shift gears. Rock solid, none of the high-speed floatiness that I had come to accept from other, high priced cars that I owned/ driven (Porshe 911 Turbo, 2 Lamborghinis, Jaguar, Mustang GT with extra HP....)

That was back in May/1994 with stock ECU and about 11 lbs boost.

From my notebook, some interesting finds from those tests.

Raising the headlights added 1.5 seconds to my 60 - 160 times.

Cutting the front wheel fender plastic cover and allowing high pressure air to escape from the engine bay given me over 1 second gain in the same
acceleration.

My best 60 - 150 time was 21.79 second (3rd gear to 5th gear)
My best 60 - 160 time was 28.38 second (3rd gear to 5th gear)

My stock-equipped FD's 60 - 150 was 33.4 second.

I have had my car to 155 on the front straight at road america. Had room for more but didn't want to push it too much with factory rotors and calipers.

In my fc which is non-turbo I've hit 155mph, before I had to slow down.

on the 73 freeway in southern california, when my car was malfunctioning and running 17 lbs of boost on stock turbos and engine ( i was a noob and didnt know better except hte fact that it was the fastest car i'd ever been in) and i got up to 170 before the engine got weird ( i know now because it wasnt supposed to be running 17 lbs of boost lol) but it was pulling even then.

I've heard that at top speeds the FD gets a little loose in the front (not as much high speed stability as the FC) but it felt super smooth and i wasnt scared at all going that fast.

With the stock touring setup with rear spoiler with speed over 150 the car never felt light in the rear or the front for that matter. I wouldn't call the roads super smooth either normal interstate stuff.
