With my fc I hit 150, with my uncle's 300zx ( twin 20g's) we hit about 187, the road looked so small I thought we were gonna go "back to the future" or something, it was scary ****

And HOW was this indicated? The stock speedometer only goes to 160mph in a 300ZX.

I hit 155mph a couple years ago when I only had one turbo working (primary only). The only mods I had where K&N's HKS DP, Very restricted exhaust (cloged cat, cloged muffler).

Now I'm non-seq, and everything else is working good (thrust exhaust, punched out cat) and it feels 10000 x's better. We'll see what it will do this summer

Thats funny..... not to offend you but I think it's funny that every thread I read that has some guy talking up numbers, your there to bust 'em IF they are stretching the truth. It's good though, we need some liar 5-0 around here.... and man, you know way to much about cars........

Not calling you a liar MazdaRx7Racer4Life, you proved yourself.

145 is my top speed. I really want to hit 170, but the state troopers can run a little thick in this area

No, I think Jimlab holds the title for liar 5-0 on this forum...

I call them like I see them. There's a lot of bullshitters on the internet.

MazdaRx7Racer4Life: I didn't mean to sound like I was calling you a liar, thanks for clarifying. I like your description of how the road looked so small... That said, I don't think I would ever go that fast, especially with a passenger. I've hit 155 or so and that's plenty fast. There's way too many things that can go wrong at those speeds.

I hit 168-170 racing a t70ed 95 supra. Needless to say he was spanking me but I kept going just to see how fast I could go, btw this was with 2 passengers in the car Im fairly certain that I could have gone 180 or so but I have a carbon fibre hood that was starting to flex to my dismay, so I let off.

And that makes a difference why?!!

I dunno bout you, but if I get clocked doin 100 or more where I live, it's over. Whether im doin 101 or 171...it makes no difference. Im screwed. Period

At that point, the only question in my mind would be "do I know this area well enough to try and lose the cops?"

Rynberg, that's very understandable. But I guess some ppl like me are too thickheaded to let that stop 'em from finding out...

Ya think you can give a run-down of what are the most important things you better have checked for and things you gotta do to prepare for a top speed run? (don't tell me "write a will" LOL) and I'm aware of obvious stuff like check your brakes, properly inflate your tires, etc etc. But I'm sure there's more to it, cuz as much as the adrenaline is telling me "just punch it once..." I at least wanna look at logically and "prepare" as much as is actually possible...(im talkin bout pushin 170mph)

and on the same note, *what* exactly is likely/possible/expected to go wrong, short of hitting a bump/rock and losing control? Im thinkin more in terms of prob w/ the car itself...or should the terrain be my biggest worry?

ANYTHING can go wrong:

*you can pick up a nail in a tire and blow it out
*you can hit a piece of debris
*worn out suspension bushings give too much and you lose control
*bad crosswind gust causes you to lose control

etc, etc

I have hit 140 mph several times and 150+ twice.

All of those times were at 1-2am on a 4-lane highway with absolutely no other cars around -- except for the one race with a Ferrari Testarosa to 150 mph.

You must understand that there is a WORLD of difference between 150 and 180 mph, as well.

If you are bound and determined to do a high speed run:

*check your tires carefully and make sure your suspension is in good shape and properly aligned
*be VERY familiar with the road you are driving on
*make sure there are no cars any where near you
*don't do the run close to an entrance ramp
*don't have the windows down or the stereo blaring
*pray!

In all seriousness, a lot of people have probably done a high speed run without paying any attention to any of the above, but it's like playing Russian roulette. Be seriously as safe as possible and DON'T endanger other people's lives.

I agree all there runs are extremely dangerous, and probably should not be done on public streets. That being said, I did 160 on a long straight two lane hwy in Nebraska, and 140 while chasing down a BPU++ Supra on a local hwy at 2 AM.

Something about our cars that makes us ignore safety and reality at times!!

I hit a GPS verified speed of 157 mph in France in a friends R1 FD. The speedo was reading something like 175 I think.

Lucky there were no coppers around, you definitely go to jail for that in France!

i got my car to 155mph(250kph) and its was still pulling strong but then the roads in sweden dont support much more for a stock FD. ie the roads are too badly maintaind for it to feel safe.

The car was later on a dyno and was messuard to 171mph(275kph)

i know it could def have gone more with ease, i got to that speed in like the quickness..

Update on my record...
- I hit 140 a bunch of times
- 150 twice
- 155 once
-and the last one, coming back from Rotary Revolution, 165

She felt solid as hell...it took a nice couple of seconds to go from 160 to 165 though... to the point that traffic that was 2 - 3 miles ahead was only half a mile ahead at that point...so I had to let off.

I've had 253 K/m as read off the hold function on my pfc. I thought I was going to **** myself. That was way too fast for pubilc roads. I also screwed up my right front brake caliper trying to slow down. Then inside pad stuck aginst the rotor

Yea I don't think you wanna use your brakes at such speeds...

If anything, i'd FEATHER the brakes... BARELY touching them...giving just a little more friction/resistance than air resistance is already providing to the car as a whole...

That's why slowing down is such an issue, sometimes even moreso than reaching the top speed!

I've gotten my 93 R1 to 178 (not stock) on the 12. If you are ever in Santa Rosa, CA, it's the perfect road. Straight for about 5-10 miles with 1 dip under an overpass.

I had 2 friends on cells scout out front for me . . . no cars in the way, so we could fly . . .
