LOL.

My first few vehicles were SUVs/trucks and I was fortunate enough to get a brand new 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege when I graduated high school. That car had significantly less power and was significantly more practical and I assure you was WAY more than enough vehicle for me to get into plenty of trouble.

I am 21 years old, and have had my single FD since i was 17, since then ive added a stock SSM and a S5 Vert to my garage. while the FD is a very demanding car my fathers has always said he will buy the parts if i turn the wrenches. ive been lucky enough to learn so much with these cars.

Hah , same with me thats when i first saw the car and when i first had an itch for it.

after a long time I came arround to sort of owning one .

I purchased a shell that was to say the least bare.. last october. and have been restoring it since then

I've wasted about 7k restoring it and i'm not even nearly done.

But I did drive it for the first time last sunday . it was... more then I expected..

Comming from a miata the speed was .. confusing .

LoL .. hopefully it will be on the road within the next couple of months legally .. and then I'll have credit card depts to pay off .. and the car will be 100% mine.

I work in Medical Billing and insurances . I miss my stress releaving miata

35, in love with the FD since I first saw it in 92, I was 15.

I used to go to bookstands and rip off FD articles pages from magazines hahaha I still have some of these!

Bought my first car at 20-21, a 12A 84 RX-7, after that a 86 GXL RX-7 (NA). When that burned to the ground I was rotaryless for about 5-6 years until I could afford and bought my FD in 2004. FINALLY!!!

Funny, I was thinking Miata also.

A stock FD does 0-60 in 5 seconds and runs a high 13 quarter. That is too much power for any beginner driver. Especially a young one.

A 49/51 weight distributioned pure "driver's car" that's cheap, easy to maintain, rock solid reliable & has just enough power.. the only two things that are really against them as beginner's cars are total lack of interior/luggage space (duhh), and the fact that they're RWD. (debatable of course) Ook, sorry for the Miata plug, (and staying off-topic). I realize many of us here are confused souls & think they're.

and yea.. totally agreed again. Pretty much no young/new driver should have a 13 second ride! Props to the few, mature kids out there that do though.

totally agree with you..... rx7 is NOT a good first car or for beginners... now an rx8 on the other hand is an amazing first car (my first car) not too much power, handles like a dream, corrects itself automatically much like the miata (from what ive heard, never driven one)

that being said, im 23, got mine when i was...... 18 or 19 idk lol boy was it a learning experience and a money pit but the things ive learned and experience ive gotten from working on this car was well worth the knowledge i gained in return

Wait.. you're in college & got 500-600 a month to spend on car repairs alone, (plus extra time to deal with working on it), or are you headed off for college shortly?

Pretty much the same story for me. I am 34 and at 15 a friend's dad came by the house to pick him up in a brand new VR. When he took off speeding through the neighborhood, I knew I had to get one!

Owned an 84 GSL, 84 GSLSE, and an 87 TII prior. The FD arrived in 2001.

I think he's more disagreeing with the fact you're claiming than its not a powerful car. Because that would be a very ignorant statement

I'm 26, got my FD last summer. First thing I do is get a nice Exhibition of Speed ticket..resulting in the car impounded for a month..not cheap. Now I'm dealing with a blown engine. Getting a new tranny and Power FC installed along with the new street ported heart. So within my first year I have put over 8K into her and guess what, I can't wait to get her back!

Ya, this car will definitely get you into trouble if you're a dumbass. I meant that it isn't so powerful that I can't control it. An FC or miata would be a much better car to learn on though.

Modified the car becomes powerful pretty easily.

Lets be serious here, if you think 260bhp is a powerful car even at 2900lbs that's an ignorant statement...And a high 13 second car is pretty damn slow. The only thing that that gets people in trouble is that idiot drivers push a rwd car without all the nannies modern cars have and have no idea what to do if they need to make corrections to keep it on the road. Around 300whp and the car could be considered fast in today's sports car world.

33 and I'm a cnc machinists. I have had my fd for about 15 months. I traded my 350z for it and had my wife mad at me cause the fd was a little rough. When I got it the hatch was full of spare parts, a lot of the interior was missing, it was spray painted orange over the Montago blue, and the guy tried to do a simplified sequential set up. But I was looking at what I could make it. Last year I spent over $8k and this year so far I am at around $14k. It is still at Steve Kan's shop so we will see what happens. But I do not regret any of it and plan to continue building.

22, US Army. Bought my first FD last February with 38k miles on it. Sold it in November and now own a 74k mile Chaste White thats being rebuilt by me this weekend. For what its worth I came from muscle cars, 01 Trans Am WS6, and i love this car. It pulls attention like no other, but i do miss then instant torque of my trans am.

That's kind of what I meant except that I think a 13 second car is pretty damn fast. I think if you are responsible, then this is a good car to learn with because you learn how to correct and oversteer. Then once you learn this you can start to have a little fun. I also agree with you other guys at the same time because I think 240sx's, miatas, and FC are great cars to learn on too.

No. I know it's powerful. I just meant it wasnt too powerful for me. Of course I don't even want to try to drive anything with over 400hp. 246whp is enough for now.
