Just to keep the thread going.

I'm 25 and a web application programmer, bought my FD about 3 weeks ago, and other than the $3000 I dropped on the roller, I've only spent $1450 on a rebuilt short block...so far. Wife said to keep it under $8000, we'll see.

I'm hopeful she just meant to get it back on the road. The single turbo build I'm going to hopefully start this winter might break that limit much like that gif lol

In my opinion an FD Roller is the best way to buy one of these cars.

If you have the budget you can build it to your exact specifications.

I think you'll have a great learning experience as you get to know this car and work on it.

An FD is unlike any other car. It's considered under the category of a tuner car because you can do so much with it.

Good Luck and do post pictures when you can.

I just turned 33, a Journeyman Plumber and have had the seven for 5 years. She's been reasonable so far on the wallet in the maintenance department.

JBF, I just got mine back together after doing the very same, mine had a blown clutch so I couldn't even drive it before tearing it down. I have put on 150 since Saturday though.

62. Retired engineer. Had my 93 touring since 95. Rebuilt engine twice. I don't spend much on it at present, as it doesn't get many miles. My wife thinks of it as a money pit though. My wife or daughter will have to sell it when I'm gone because I never will.

27 years old, police officer in the Poughkeepsie area of New York since 2008.

Owned the FD since March of 2006, and pretty much have direct deposit into the car fund. Overall, my RX-7 was more expensive than my Porsche. If I could go back and change one thing, I would have bought a roller.

I am 48 but age is just a number. A Deputy Sheriff in L.A. for the last 19 years. I own a 1985 Mazda RX-7 since 1992 and it had been in my garage for nearly 20 years. I just statrted a major "all-out" overhauling a year ago. And the answer is "No Tickests" for the last 19 years.

Atta boy. That's a great attitude. But it get's harder. Talk to me with another 14 on the job. The gym helps, but it's finally getting to be more than a number for me. Will probably retire this year with 33.
No tickets for the last 36 yrs.....but there's been some close calls.

I'm 29 (30 in December). I've owned my rx7 since 2005. Been thru a rebuild & other mods. More to come. I love it tho. Most fun vehicle I've ever owned/driven.

I'm 25 and a Network Security guy currently working for Ryobi/Ridgid/Dewalt/Baja Motorsports etc. And I'll spend whatever I can on my FD in a year. Didn't change much for the first 5+ years (Only did Veilside bodykit, wheels, and racing beat single tip exhaust). Now beginning to modify the car a good bit. Had the car since '03 (Bought on ebay in 2003 with 1,7XX miles on the original motor from an old guy in Cali who drove it to the golf course on the weekend) car has about 40k on it now. Live in Upstate SC.

Am I reading this right? The car had 1,7xx miles on it when you purchased it in 2003 and since then you put approximately 38k miles on it?

Wow that was a low mileage car!

Yeah, I got quite lucky. Had it sent to Mazda to be looked over as I was unsure whether or not to believe the claim. Earliest picture I have after I got it 3,728 miles
