25 years old.. 93 silver touring. This is my second RX-7, first one was a 1981 when I was 18.. drove that through most of my college years. Then moved on to modding MKIII Supras, great cars, I loved the two that I had in four years. It was not too hard to make them real fast, but they can't take a turn for their life. And oh.. those BHG's. Daily driver is a late 80's Integra, 190,000 and ticking.

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really didn't expect so many young FD owners. But, it's not like it's a Viper. I am really envious of you people. I almost bought one about 6 months ago. But I decided to wait until after I'm in the Air Force for a year or two. So I bought an
02 CBR F4i instead. I love FD's and will own one but there is NOTHING like riding a sportbike.

Ya ya, this is my first post, I am new to this forum. Suprised to see so many young 7 owners. At 16 I bought a grand am, but by 17 had a 93 base model 7. When i graduated high school i sold it and took on a loan on a 98 mustang cobra conv, yellow, and threw on the saleen speedster package. A wreckless op for smoking my tires at a light, and about 5 speeding tickets in less than 2 years convinced me to sell it, although having a conv was almost too fun, i missed the precision of the 7. Bought a black R1 this past dec, and i currently have an Apexi Gt spec CB, and apexi intake, along with the basic reliablilty mods. O ya, age...21 in a week, will grad college in about a year with a finance major, so hopefully the money will start rollin in so i can build this car up....

The whole world knew what the Rx-7 looked like even in '90-'91 when Mazda started cold weather testing it, that gave Dodge 4 years to copy the design and release the Viper a year after the 3rd Gen rx-7!! LOOK AT THE LINES ON A VIPER AND RX-7, THEY ARE SO MUCH ALIKE, THE DOUBLE-BUBBLE ROOFLINE, THE DOOR HANDLES, THE DIPS IN THE HOOD, ETC, DODGE JUST TOOK THE RX-7 AND EXAGGERATED ALL THE LINES AND TOOK ALL THE CREDIT! [/B]
I could be wrong with the year, but i beleive the first viper was the 93...so i would highly doubt dodge stole the 7's lines...also, the double bubble roof line is not cosmetic; it has the dip in the middle of the roof line to help speed airflow over the center of the car (during wind tunnel testing mazda found that the contour of the hood sped up the wind that traveled down the center of the car, and without the double bubble roof this air would ultimately create excess turbulence)...i can substantiate this claim if anyone disagrees with me

My love for RX-7s started with the 3rd gen when I was about 11 or 12.

I am now 16, and barely scraped up the $2800 to buy my FC.

How do you 18-19 year olds afford an FD? I have a good job, but I cant imagine saving that much. I can make maybe 500/month school and 1000/month summer but **** that is still only $7500 a year, before any spending!

How do you guys do it? I want a 3rd gen real bad..

The first viper came out in 89 (thanks Bob Lutz!) and it went into production as a 1992 model. I dont see how the Viper copying off the RX-7 comes from. I see a slight resemblence, but not much

Now the C5 I see a slight copy of the RX-7 but the C5 is still very different looking than a 3rd gen

Thumbs up

I'm glad to know I am not the only "old geezer" here who knows how to enjoy life -- on the open road with a fast car and a pretty woman. I too am outside my twenties. I am 34. I am amazed at how many of you guys are under 25. If I had the money for my FD when I was 25, I would have been in a lot more trouble.

Who dug up this thread? 17, 18 in a couple weeks. Bought my 94 Touring Silver on Red leather (1 of 20) with my own money. Came with an auto. Had a 5 speed conversion done. Saving my money for some tires for my auto x race. So far my Nitto 555R's have lasted almost a couple weeks and they are getting close to bald. And I haven't even used them on a track yet. So, mods will have to wait for now.

Nick

The trend is unmistakable. It won't be long before there are FD owners who have cars that are older than they are.
