How Not To Build An RX-7

I pretty much agree with you. The buyerr even said he took a ride in the passanger seat so obviously saw the interior/exterior/engine bay in person.
I understand not letting someone test drive your car... seen first hand someone smash the tranny trying to do a pull and leave. I dont let people test drive my **** unless i have some cash in my hand. By taking a ride in a car you can know almost the same ammount(almost..). If this title thing clears up right, i honestly dont se anything wrong.
When i bought my car about 2 years ago it was in pretty rough condition. I had done my research on these cars so I knew what i was getting into. I bought it for only 5,000. The odometer read 200,xxx when i bought it. but the owner i bought it from had the engine rebuilt about 100k earlier. Since the day i bought it i had worked out a few bugs, but now this engine seems to be dying. I will hopefully have a mazda reman streetported and non sequential done by rich and ihor soon. I know my car is in rough condition but at the price i bought it for i cant complain. Hopefully soon i will have it running and looking like new.
hey, im new but would just like to add if i could.
going with the seller on this.
always check the frame for damage. to me, a wrecked car is junk.
as for the engine probs. there are always risks and costs when purchasing a modified car.
esp a rotary(heheh joking)
this is just a hard to swallow life learning experience. everyone has em.

And Dennis Fields Jr. let stop this bullshit, i dont want to keep going on and on about this, you know the true, and i'm not asking anything from you, so stop this put it to a end, we are all grown ups here. I 100% agree with this comment. I am glad you se the way things worked out. I just want you to know that the problems with the car (that i can see). except for the "smoking" if any... are majorly over exaggerated. Not to say they dont need attention drawn to them, just saying they are all fixable with the right parts and about a days worth of work. I am sorry you bought the car assume it was something it is not. I was new once as well, i bought a car with a few things wrong, luckely it was like you situation and they things that were wrong werent a detriment to the car as a machine. Good luck man

, and I have No Clue wat the deal is with the "salvage title" I wouldn't be trying 2 sell a salvaged titles car for 18k lol....... also iam sure some1 would of caught that the car was salvaged since I posted the vin in the thread of the sale..... nothing 2 hide here... rx7kid your either giving a bold faced lie.. Or the dmv made a huge mistake in which you should fix. I hav a carfax account ill copy and paste it when I get home.. Also the vin was posted all over ebay and once again it showed up with a clean title so I honestly have no clue where that's coming from....... this thread has gone on far 2 long, and seems most of the naysayers and people claiming wrong things hav weeded themselves out.... after I post the vin and a few pics of my crappy 5k paint job ill let it go 2 rest "thanx u.... come again"-dj

On a more serious note: sorry to hear of your misfortune man. I had a terrible buying experience with my FD too, but I've stuck it out. Good luck to you. Be happy that you don't have to replace interior bits or repaint the car. That can get expensive.It seems to me that some people have a much different concept of what "mechanically perfect" means. IMHO generally, the word PERFECT in a for sale ad raises
I've met a lot of folks who really think that their car/computer/whatever is "mechanically perfect" when in reality it's got flaws--that they admit! A car with an oil leak or weird off idle throttle response is NOT mechanically perfect in my book and that SHOULD be common sense to the seller. It's on the seller to disclose that, that is if he/she has any integrity at all.Some people are just shady and want your money. Sorry man.

good job of hiding the flaws with less than moderate quality photos... as well as the distance they were taken... i'm sure the paint job isn't "shitty" as you put it, but if there are problems, these photos are NOT to be used for final judgement by anyone on these boards...

Glossary
* Accident
CARFAX receives information on accidents in most states when an official police report is filed. Not all accidents are reported to the Police. The level of detail in the accident record varies by state depending on the state's accident report requirements. CARFAX recommends you obtain a vehicle inspection from your dealer or an independent mechanic for any car involved in an accident.
o According to the National Safety Council, Injury Facts, 2003 edition, 12% of the 243 million registered vehicles in the U.S. were involved in an accident in 2002. Over 90% of these were considered minor or moderate.
o CARFAX depends on public and private sources for its accident data. Each one of these sources has different processing times. CARFAX can only report what is in our database on 31.Oct.2006 17:06:27. New data will result in a change to this report.
New York Police Reports:
+ Do not include an assessment of damage severity
+ Are required if the estimated damage exceeds $1000
+ Are released to CARFAX approximately 3 months after the accident date. At times, New York may have a backlog that will affect how quickly some accident records are displayed on the Vehicle History Report.
* Failed Emissions Inspection
The emissions check performed during a vehicle inspection indicated the vehicle was emitting more than allowable emissions standards and/or had missing or modified parts. Repeated failed emissions records can indicate engine problems and CARFAX recommends you have the vehicle inspected.
* Inspections
Many states or counties require annual or biennial emissions and/or safety inspections. Odometer readings are collected at the time of the inspection.
* Manufacturer Recall
Automobile manufacturers issue recall notices to inform owners of car defects that have come to the manufacturer's attention. Recalls also suggest improvements that can be made to improve the safety of a particular vehicle. Most manufacturer recalls can be repaired at no cost to you.
* Mileage Inconsistency
If a more recent odometer reading is less than an older reading but CARFAX is uncertain whether the discrepancy is a rollback or a clerical error, then CARFAX calls it a "Mileage Inconsistency". In this case, you should verify the mileage with your dealer or a qualified mechanic.
* New Owner Reported
When a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at a Department of Motor Vehicles.
* Ownership History
CARFAX defines an owner as an individual or business that possesses and uses a vehicle. Not all title transactions represent changes in ownership. To provide estimated number of owners, CARFAX proprietary technology analyzes all the events in a vehicle history. Estimated ownership is available for vehicles manufactured after 1994 and titled solely in the US including Puerto Rico. Dealers sometimes opt to take ownership of a vehicle and are required to in the following states: Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and South Dakota. Please consider this as you review a vehicle's estimated ownership history.
* Title Issued
A state issues a title to provide a vehicle owner with proof of ownership. Each title has a unique number. Each title or registration record on a CARFAX report does not necessarily indicate a change in ownership. In Canada, a registration and bill of sale are used as proof of ownership.

Accident Indicator
Various events could indicate an accident in a vehicle's history, such as: salvage auction, fire damage, police-reported accident, crash test vehicle, damage disclosure, collision repair facility and automotive recycler records. See the glossary for more information.
Airbag Deployment
Occurs when the driver, passenger or side airbag has been used or deployed during a crash or other incident. If an airbag has been deployed, new or recycled airbags must be installed for the airbag system to return to operation.
Frame Damage
In most cases, a vehicle is inspected for frame damage after an accident or other incident. All levels of accidents from minor to severe can cause frame damage and in most cases it can be repaired. If frame damage is reported, having this vehicle's frame inspected before purchase is recommended.
Odometer Rollback
If a more recent odometer reading is less than an older reading, then the odometer may have been tampered with and "rolled back".
Manufacturer Recall
Automobile manufacturers issue recall notices to inform owners of car defects that have come to the manufacturer's attention. Recalls also suggest improvements that can be made to improve the safety of a particular vehicle. Most manufacturer recalls can be repaired at no cost to you.
Basic Warranty
Most manufacturers offer a basic warranty for new vehicles. These warranties vary by manufacturer and typically last for a certain amount of time and/or a set number of miles.
Salvage Title
A Salvage Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds ~ 75% of its pre-damage value. This damage threshold may vary by state. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage but the majority use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again in that state. The following ten States also use Salvage titles to identify stolen vehicles - AZ, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, NJ, NM, NY, OK and OR.
Junk Title
A Junk Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds ~ 75% of its pre-damage value. This damage threshold may vary by state. The majority of states use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage.
Rebuilt/Reconstructed Title
A Rebuilt/Reconstructed vehicle is a salvage vehicle that has been repaired and restored to operation. These vehicles are often severely damaged before they are rebuilt and refurbished parts are typically used during reconstruction. In most states, an inspection of the vehicle is required before the vehicle is allowed to return to the road.
Loss Due To Fire Title
The vehicle sustained major damage due to fire. In most states, fire damage titles are issued when the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value.
Flood Damage Title
States issue flood titles when a vehicle has been in a flood or has received extensive water damage.
Hail Damage Title
The vehicle sustained major damage due to hail. In most states, hail damage titles are issued when the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value.
Manufacturer Buyback or Lemon
A DMV or a state agency marks an official document or issues a Manufacturer Buyback/Lemon title when a vehicle has been repurchased by the manufacturer. Not all states issue manufacturer buyback titles and the specific requirements for a lemon law vehicle varies by state.
Not Actual Mileage Title
When the seller certifies, under the Federal Odometer Act, that the odometer reading does not reflect the vehicle's actual mileage. This may occur because the odometer was tampered with, broken, or replaced.
Exceeds Mechanical Limits
A vehicle with a 5-digit odometer cannot accurately track mileage after 99,999 miles because the odometer rolls over. This title is the result of a seller certifying under the Federal Odometer Act, that the odometer reading EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS of the odometer.
Standard Equipment
Power Windows, Power Steering, Air Conditioning, AM / FM Cassette, Power Brakes, 6-digit Odometer
Safety Options

Glossary
* Accident
* Failed Emissions Inspection
The emissions check performed during a vehicle inspection indicated the vehicle was emitting more than allowable emissions standards and/or had missing or modified parts. Repeated failed emissions records can indicate engine problems and CARFAX recommends you have the vehicle inspected.
* Inspections
Many states or counties require annual or biennial emissions and/or safety inspections. Odometer readings are collected at the time of the inspection.
* Manufacturer Recall
Automobile manufacturers issue recall notices to inform owners of car defects that have come to the manufacturer's attention. Recalls also suggest improvements that can be made to improve the safety of a particular vehicle. Most manufacturer recalls can be repaired at no cost to you.
* Mileage Inconsistency
If a more recent odometer reading is less than an older reading but CARFAX is uncertain whether the discrepancy is a rollback or a clerical error, then CARFAX calls it a "Mileage Inconsistency". In this case, you should verify the mileage with your dealer or a qualified mechanic.
* New Owner Reported
When a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at a Department of Motor Vehicles.
* Ownership History
* Title Issued

4 wheel ABS, Driver front air bag/passenger side active (manual) belt

That being said, and based on the posts of Rotary Experiment Seven, you and the buyer, it looks as if you've APPEARED somewhat deceitful. The reason I posted is because I do have an idea of the situation, that is if anything in this thread can be taken to be true.
But I don't know anything so I'll shut up.Anyway, your old car looks really nice with black rims. I dig the smoked lenses too. Paint does look shiny in the pics. I was never a big fan of VR, but a freshly painted one is always nice
Burnout pic is cool too

from the photos of the car and other obvious clues, there were many existing conditions with the car. coolant lines, improperly installed items, and brakes don't just wear out in a couple days. a/c lines don't cut themselves. i mean really, if that's your "pride and joy", i'd hate to see your beater. all of this would have been fine if you hadn't omitted it from your description.
i will agree that if someone wanted to give me 18k for a car that wasn't necessarily worth that, i would take it. what i don't agree with is the way you represented the car. according to rx7kid, you didn't just omit things, you outright lied about them. i'm talking about lying about the brake noise/replacement, etc. ...i find that kind of deception despicable.
