Hesitation....

Perhaps you can help diagnose my problem. I have a 93 rx7 touring. In the last few days the car seems to be hesitating when it accelarates. It doesn't bogg or such, but it doesnt seem to have the power it used to. If I floor it at say 70mph the techtometer goes up very slowly and it takes a long time to reach 100mph. In fact once it gets at 100 mph it wont go any faster.

The car has 114k on it. Can a bad muffler cause this? How about old oil in the system? I have one of those washable high performance air filters. I cleaned it because it looked like it was full of oil....(Recently in a shop).
Your comments are appreciated.....

It sounds like a boost issue. Do you have a boost gauge?

Does it run fine other than slowed acceleration? Hows the idle, and exhuast note?

I would recommend getting a boost gauge if you don't have one, and that should help diagnose the issue assuming the above is all good.

Boost? Such as bad turbo or vacuum lines?

I have to boost gauge.....

The exhaust seems to make soft backfiring noises at idle sometimes. been doing that for a long time. Idles rough- always has.

Now would be the perfect time to pick up a boost gauge. It will be invalueable when trying to diagnose problems like this one.

Without a boost gauge, you are shooting in the dark at the problem.

umm yeah that would be it
usually a boost problem doesn't mean bad turbos unless they are very high mileage they can usually produce boost.

When I was on the highway doing a top speed run I blew the intercooler coupler during the run and the car totally stopped at 135 and wouldn't go past that no matter what. Sounds like you blew one of the main couplers because it takes almost 0psi to stop you from getting over 100. Check the y pipe and 2 intercooler hoses first.

A coupler blew and my car felt slow as heck. It was able to hear a loud hissing sound in the car. Hope you figure out whats going wrong. Good luck.

For that little power that you say you have it must be a huge leak. Should be easy to find. Check from the elbow to the intercooler and from the y pipe to the intercooler. Bend and fold the black hoses to look for a hole and check everything for tightness. Couplers are blue in my picture should be black on yours still. Check to see if those are attatched tight and there are no holes in them.

Good luck
