counter weight tranny question...

I need help...I need to see a pic of a counter weight that works with an act setup...the weight that I left installed was connected to a gikken set-up and might be the reason why the tranny is hitting the pressure plate half inch from the engine.

that helps a little, when you attatch it to the engine, is that end(counterweight)in towards the engine or out?

Yes, in towards the engine. Here's a couple more pics.

thanks for the pics arc, would it be possible to get a pic of the spacing between the flywheel and engine. I'm trying to see if that's where my problem is at. Or just a measurement from the engine to the flywheel. Thanks again.

Sorry, those are the best pictures I have. I really wasn't looking at the gap at the time, it just went together and fit.

the inside of the tranny housing made contact with the pressure plate, so I'm thinking that some how the FW/clutch/pressure plate is extended to far out. the only thing that I'm thinking is that the counter weight which I did'nt remove and had a Gikken setup attatched to it, is made for the gikken clutch only. I need some proffesional input here...Thanks in advance.

At first I thought that your flywheel was maybe too far away from the engine, but the more I look at it, it might be okay. I'm judging that by comparing your finished picture from the front to the end of the eccentric shaft. It looks very similiar to mine. Are you sure it's hitting the pressure plate? Could it be that the trans shaft isn't lined up correctly with the pilot bearing in the eccentric shaft. You can get to about a half inch of getting the trans on and still be misaligned. If you hit your pilot bearing, make sure you didn't push the needle bearings back into the end of the shaft. If so, remove the loose bearings, get a new pilot bearing, install and try again. Sorry, from your pics, that's the best I can come up with.

the first pic show a measurement. It's a inch from the engine to the back of the flywheel, and 3 inches from the engine to the end of the pressure plate. The pressure plate has paint scrapped off on the outer edges. that is why I think it is hitting. I even tilted the engine and tried it that way. I was hoping maybe someone is in the process of installing a clutch or has an engine out, that could verify these mesurements.

Here' a link to the Mazdatrix site with a discussion on "Identifying Rear Counterweight".

http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/Rcounterweights.htm

Also try Crispy's site, it gives a few more views of the job.

http://www.negative-camber.org/crispyrx7/clutch1.htm

Really, with all the proper parts, it should just go together. Double check the part numbers on the flywheel, pressure plate and see if you can figure out if you have the correct counterweight.
