OR Pineapple Racing - Retirement and garage sale

Hi All,

It is with mixed feelings we have been asked to share Rob's retirement and immediate closure of Pineapple Racing's physical location in Oregon.
Please join us, Memorial Day weekend, Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th from 10AM-2PM for a BBQ and shop sale. We will be clearing out decades of shop supplies, engine parts, transmissions, and other Mazda goodies.

Q+A:
What do I do if I have an engine or project at the shop? Please contact sales@pineappleracing.com AND CC pineappleracingpdx@gmail.com. Derek and myself will do our best to package and return any projects. Anything left after 30 days from this post will be cleaned out as part of the closure.

What do I do if I have a pending or open order? All pending sales will be refunded over the next 30 days. Please be patient as we work through sales records. If you have any questions, email the above two addresses.

What is happening to the engine business? This is pending and we will have an update soon.

What is happening to the parts business? Parts development and sales will continue. This is pending and we will have more information soon.

How do I get ahold of Rob or the shop? Please email, do not call, sales@pineappleracing.com and cc pineappleracingpdx@gmail.com and we will do our best to get back to you.

We ask that you respect Rob's decision and privacy in this matter. Derek and myself will be here to assist as best we can with this transition. We understand this is difficult news and appreciate any good vibes you can pass our way.

Thank you,
Marc and Derek

hmm, I just ordered a few parts this morning.

if they’re closed and out of business, it might be better to shut down the order function on the website and otherwise have a notice there.

edit: missed that parts sales are still active, lmk.

Sad to hear he's closing. Glad to hear he's retiring, hopefully it's for good reasons.

I was hoping to get a Pineapple oil pan for the FD, he said he had some in the works. Is this still true?

Really sad to hear. I have 2 pineapple engines waiting to be fired up and I know they will be great.

had lunch with Rob a couple years ago last time I was down there, I hope he’s ok. Will see if I can make it down for Memorial Day.

Best wishes to Rob. I'll be forever grateful for the gems of rotary wisdom he gave me when I asked for some help. Even without having made a purchase yet, he was extremely generous with his time and knowledge and I'll never forget that.

Happy retirement Rob, thanks for being a truly impactful cornerstone of the rotary community!

Yeah I talked to him two or three months ago and he said he had some pans being made, but I never heard back after that. I hope he's alright and this retirement is a choice and not forced.

All of us local guys are lending a hand to help close down the business as quickly, and responsibly as possible. We hope we'll see some of you at the sale!

All the best in retirement Rob. Hope it's not the end of the Pineapple Racing era.

I put a fairly hefty order in on the 11th of April. Chances are this isn't coming and is part of the group being refunded?
Haven't had any luck getting a hold of the team through emails. Worried I'm gonna order everything from mazdatrix only to have my pineapple racing order show up lol

I’m in the same boat because I don’t want to lose a month sitting around not knowing. I have no problem waiting on a refund, but need some kind of clarification. I suspect the ownership needs to transfer and other legalities is why they’d be cancelled & refunded. As best I can tell the webstore is still open and no notice there. Since mine is through Paypal I’ll address it there, but closing down the online store should be done at the soonest convenience given the circumstances.

edit: can’t be addressed in Paypal because it’s indicated as still pending on being accepted, so I addressed it through the emails listed in post #1 asking for it to be cancelled.

Thank you all for the well wishes. I will do my best to share these with Rob. There's been an outpouring of support and we greatly appreciate it.

I do not have an update on the web store. Derek and myself are not involved in the transition and any pending refunds. Our focus is solely on the shop with assistance from djSL.
We will do our best to pass along the emails and info to the new party. I expect this to take a few weeks and we ask for your patience as this is all sorted out.

I hope everything goes smoothly for you guys. Could I please ask for some clarification about my order? I placed it on the sixth not realizing what was going on with the shop, will this order be cancelled and the pending charge nullified? Or is the plan to simply have it processed and shipped? I would like to plan accordingly and this info will help me a lot.

I don’t believe anyone here can advise you on it, or at least not at this time.

solid 1-pc dowel suppliers seem to be dwindling fewer and fewer …

The shop has been sitting on my project since August 2023. I'm disappointed that unless I browsed these forums and reached out (via info not provided or on the website) it seems you would've simply liquidated my property and kept the money. I emailed you guys Monday and haven't seen a response. Please get back with me as soon as you canto arrange a return. Under HUFFMAN.

I can appreciate and sympathize with your thoughts and feelings, but as I understand it now, the situation is completely out of the blue and totally unexpected. As real life can be. Even my own comments about the website I now recognize as being premature and without full understanding.

The situation is in flux and perhaps chaotic even given the circumstances. It applies to even myself, let’s all take a deep breath and try not to overreact. I’m hopeful for a positive outcome for you and everyone else. Even at the expense of a rogue cowboy or two riding in to say it’s all my fault like in the Chip’s thread.

Thanks TeamRX8.

It's pretty clear that enough people have deduced that this is in fact the result of a major medical event I feel comfortable confirming it.
We did not want to share this initially, as Rob does not want the community worrying about him. It was decided to post here and on Facebook because this is the ONLY method we have of reaching Rob's customer base at this time.

Please keep in mind, there are just a few of us locals, taking PTO and spending time away from our families to try and handle the closure and liquidation of the shop. We do not work for Pineapple Racing. We are friends, trying to do the right thing and help our friend through a major life event.

We understand this can be frustrating and worrying. We will continue to do our best to ensure customer projects are returned, but as individuals, we can not store projects or take over operations. It's simply outside our control.

Thankfully we have people from all areas offering whatever help they can, and for that we are incredibly grateful. The response has been overwhelming and I will do my best to share your messages with Rob.

I can not edit the original post to add these two updates:

1) As of 5/13 we still do not have access to shut down online ordering. This is being addressed with the site host, but will take time to resolve due to the archaic paperwork process. Ordering will be shut down as soon as possible by the new party taking over the parts business.

2) The BBQ and shop sale is in two weeks. I will be posting photos and more details this week. Rob has shelves upon shelves of early 13B, some 12A, S4/S5 parts we are sorting through. This is a CASH only sale - due to the recent paypal/cash app payment processing IRS rule, we as individuals can not collect payments for this. Sorry.

I rebuilt and redeployed the site a few years ago during the time of Rob's business partners death.
In fact I may still have some control over it as it still is configured in my Network Solutions account where your MX and DNS records appear to be coming from my accoutn that Rob and I started using back when I re-deployed PINEAPPLERACING.COM.

If you will reach out to me regarding any assistance you need, I would be happy to help Rob and you all do whatever is needed.
