Count your blessings

I am on a rant tonight. Probably need to move this to another section, but I've been considering all the bashing I've been reading about our cars by fellow owners on this site lately, not to mention all the low balling I've read in the for-sale section and owners willing to dump their good cars at ridiculous prices.

Gee willickers, has anyone gone out and priced something that has nearly the performance or the looks that our cars have? I paid $17,500 last year for a 94 in almost perfect shape (save a few scratches in near perfect paint). The car has been used as a daily driver except during the winter with no issues, at all. IT still runs perfect, 10-8-10. Granted it is close to stock, with the exception of ACT clutch, light weight fly wheel, custom airbox, downpipe, and a few other reliability mods, but it runs rings around everything short of a new C6 or very expensive Carrera.

It's far more sexy than a Porsche, in the appearance department, but I had the opportunity to price a new Boxter - simply to see what it might take to replace my 94 with something that I would consider, well " equally fun". It was pretty close to base, but that sucker cost $52,000. Granted, long term reliability might go to the Porsche, but I can think of a lot of things I'd rather spend the $35,000 difference on - even if my Mazda needs a new engine sometime and a new paint job four of five years from now.

A little perspective goes a long way. Stop crying fellow RX-7 owners. We don't always know how good we've got it.

I think you've got to start racing against other cars in your class than just the usual ricer-honda.

If your car is "Close to stock", it does a low 13 second pass at best. WRX STI, EVO, Z06, Supra, 300zx, Viper, etc all share very similiar handling woe's and track times, despite the greater balance or weight issues Mazda can brag about.

It's true, I couldn't have spent $13-15k on anything better, but I won't sit here and deny the comparable performance numbers other people have in their cars against what my car is capable of.

And I agree, there's nothing quite like it as far as appearance is concerned, but sometimes I just wish I could drive it with the piece of mind I have driving a Toyota.

Things would be a lot easier in my car-history if this car was damn ugly.

The FD has so much sex appeal, its curb stance just makes you scream for your check to be written on in numbers consisting of constant zeros! and after a good couple years you realize it's still asking consistently for those rectangular papers with zeros on them! Year after year, repair after repair you come to think, wow this is a blessing I love spending money just to repair my sexy beast fd. Think about it.. =) How blessed are we?

Timeless styling. One of the truly great automobiles of our time. Getting rarer by the day, you DEFINITELY don't see these at every stop light or shopping mall!

I think every one of us has 'looked' at some of the new offerings at one time or another, but yeah, you are going to plunk down $40K roughly to get anything you are going to be remotely happy with.....AND then be "seeing yourself" a dozen times a day. Doesn't matter if you go with a 'Vette or Evo or G35 or 350Z or Boxster or S2000....hell I see six of any one of these cars every time I go into Wichita for God's sake, let alone any BIG city!
If I was offered a pristine XKE Jag for a trade I would have to think really hard about it, and the Jag has been "my car" ever since I was a young lad.

So yeah, even though my car has been up on jack stands for over a year now and I figure it will be close to that again before I get it running again, it is worth it just to have it. There are not a whole lot of cars out there you can give your friends and families rides in and get that same, "Holy ******' ****....slow the **** down!" shock and awe like a FD delivers!

So true, I love being a minority

On Oahu, I daily drive my 7 and I can go for months without seeing another one. The last time I saw one was in february, before that was December (FDs). I hardly see any FC or FB either.

Amen brothers...

I wouldn't trade my FD for anything... I think if I were to get another car (maybe the next 7), I would still keep it. I've owned it for over a year now... I love everyday of owning and driving it. No other car gets this much looks. Plus, it's my stress reliever after a looooong, stressful day at work. I just get home, fire her up and go for a drive. The looks, and oooohs and aaaaaahs alone are enough to keep my loving my FD forever What other car (in our price range) gives you stunning looks, impeccable handling, and insane speed?
