Currently the economy and the FD movement is on his side. That said if it was me I'd take the 110 or 115 and make some money today because the FD isn't the only car a dealer can sell or in this case not sell

 

Not really a part of the FD pricing discussion, but I am following the auction of a 40k mile GSL-SE on BAT and it is at $14,000 with 5 hours to go...

Make that $16,000 with 4 hours to go... For an 1st gen!!!

At $17,000 and may hit $20,000 for a 1st gen. And, while this is a nice car, the same car 2 years ago would have been $7500-8500.

Now at $18,500 with 2 hours to go. Definitely sets the bar for 1st gen pricing.

It is interesting to reflect on the title of this thread and now see a 1st gen selling for $20,000.

 

I'm following that one as well, didn't expect anything over 12k, boy was I wrong. To be fair, if I was looking for a first gen right now, that'd the one I'd want. Wondering if this could affect FD prices?

 

Funny. I told one guy who bid early on that I thought it would end up at $10-12,000. Again, to quote a wise man, "boy, was I wrong"...

 

Bidding on the 1985 GSL-SE is now at $20,000 and there's still 45 minutes to go and 3 guys bidding.

Let me add that the 17k mile VR FD is now at $36,000 with a day to go. Unless the bidding on this is very different than it usually is there will be a real spurt in the last few hours. It could easily go to $40,000. (I have said the momentum on Rx7's is very strong and unless there is some economic downfall, this is likely continue for the foreseeable future.)

If an FB with 40k plus miles can sell for 21k I'd say this is easily going to be a 50k car in a few years......... That said you never now the FB might be the bigger collector in 10 years. Personally I'm not a big fan of the 1st or 2nd gen. I'd go S2k before either of those and I expect it will be a big collector.

I predict the auction will end at 38 (with the auction fee on top that's 40k.......DANG!!!) and it won't meet the reserve.

 

 

Fritz' reasoning is sound and I am foolish to suggest another outcome, but I think it sells for more than the reserve. Maybe it is $40,000. Seems like that is likely. So, the question is whether tomorrow it gets bid up $4,000 or more. It might not, because some people have noted that the guy has been trying to sell it for a while at a price of $40,000 or better, which might put off some bidders. It's almost as though the peanut gallery wants the seller to fail to achieve the price he wants and that I think the car deserves. But it only needs $4,000 more. Maybe it gets it. Maybe it will be the next one. These will be seeing the north side of $40,000 before the fall though, whatever happens to this one.

Yeah. I think whoever bid the $39,999 was simply screwing with the owner, because they thought the reserve was $40,000 and felt they could bid $39,999 with immunity from actually winning. Could also be a plant of the seller to put the price where any bid would trigger the reserve. (What? Someone would do that? "I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you to hear there's gambling...") Btw, that's over $43,000 with fees. The next bid will be over $40,000. Not sure the reserve is $40,000. Could be higher, I suppose. But we can now say this would sell for $40,000.

 

Yep it really does say a tremendous amount about the value of these cars but I'm also surprised. Why would anyone pay 42 plus for 93 VR when you could have purchased the 94 CW for 45 that from the outside looks like a much cleaner car?

Maybe they've raised the price on the CW. Hopefully that will be up for sale on BAT next This is fun!

PS..........this is also a frikken auction. I seriously hope the bidders have driven, inspected etc....

 

Of course they haven't either inspected OR driven. Also, the dude who bid $39,999 is NEW to BAT, so again, I suspect it's a friend of the sellers chumming the waters to kick it over $40k. I SO hope it just sits there and does not crack the reserve. It would serve the seller right for not actively participating in the auction, answering questions, or posting new pics that have been requested.

 

If that's true the whole auction is a sham and won't do the dealer any favors.

I suspect you are right the reserve won't be met and we'll see these same cars for sale next spring LOL

 

I think its somewhat important to note that someone "appears" to be willing to pay $39,999 for this car. When it's that close to the price, BAT will take money from your credit card and hold it. If the reserve was actually $40,000, BAT will pay the difference between the reserve and the price bid and the sale will go through. I have seen that happen several times and they state it in their guidelines.

Says sold so reserve was met now we just have to see if it's legit.

In either case whether this car sold at 35 or 40 not much difference and based on this and the FC sale the future RX7 market looks promising.

 

Nice to be right on this one. I am fairly certain that BAT paid the $100 or so and that met the reserve. So, another $40,000 FD clears. As I said, pricing is continuing to be strong and there is still positive momentum going into the summer.

Gordon, I think what Fritz means is that we need to keep our eyes peeled for the next month or so to see if this car resurfaces again for sale. A friend of mine in Phoenix sold a very nice light green 240Z on BAT about 3 months ago to a local buyer, only to have the guy show up to complete the sale and walk away. BAT has since banned that buyer, but the fact remains that the sale did not complete.

 

Confirmation the FD3S is not a $40,000 car.

 

Ah. So, the only way we'd know was if we see it advertised elsewhere again. Does this mean that whenever we see a car "sold" on eBay or BAT or AutoTrader, we don't really know if it was actually sold, I would guess.
