So guys i have plan but i need help, if your anything like me 40k for an fd is a little out of budget, but on the bright side some are selling for high 20k - mid 30k but i say we all go on strike and demand the prices down to 30k and lower like it used to be. Everyone ask for 30k tops unless it genuinely worth more and eventually fd’s will be affordable again. Maybe i’m crazy tho

Why would we want the value of our cars to decrease?

Just wish for more money instead haha

Yea sorry Ajai that ain't happening my man. Save up, be on the hunt and be ready to make a strong offer.

the days of buying a solid running (reliable) good condition FD under 30k is all but gone. The demand for these has skyrocketed as they have for most of the JDM cars of that era. Unlike the Supra These are actually still attainable for a lot of middle age adults. No offense to the younger crowd. I wouldn't be able to afford a FD if I was in my 20s during this time. But just keep your eye out, never know when a deal will pop up.

Okay so hear me out, the cars value isn’t really decreasing since it has already increased tremendously from the past. So no matter what you’ll sell and fd for more than you could’ve before. Also i’m not talking ab a really clean running fd, i just want a decent one and it bothers me seeing people selling a beat up fd that needs a rebuild and body work for like 25k imo that’s absurd, all i’m looking for is one that runs that needs a little work for 25-30k which i think is more than reasonable, anything more than that for a decent fd is too much. imo of course everyone is free to say i’m an idiot for thinking that

Yes. That is being an idiot. Look at any collector car. As values for pristine examples increase, so do the beaters. No one that owns an FD wants the value to decline from current state, unless they need a parts car haha.

The market decides what is reasonable.

You have a bunch of ~50-year-olds coming into their peak earning years chasing a shrinking supply of cars that they lusted after when they were young. Short of a major economic downturn, it's only going to get crazier.

Sorry to say it man, what your looking for is extremely few and far between, possibly no longer exists. The values are no longer at that price point. I say the same thing about a Supra, a 100k mile 6spd Supra selling for $65k+ is crazy but thats where the market is at. That's what people are willing to pay. People are willing to pay $30k for a half way decent FD, it's only going to go up as supply dwindles, Thats just what it is..

Just remember if you find a car that needs a rebuild and/or body work and you get it for $15-20k, you're going to end up well into the $30s, depending on the work you can do yourself.

Depending on what it ends up going for, someone might get a bargain. With some elbow grease, replacing a ton of fasteners, powder coat subframes etc., very careful masking and undercoating, the underneath of the chassis could be restored. Maybe it's worse than it looks, though, who knows. I hate rust and corrosion. Now the seats on the other hand, that's terrible. Hopefully the new owner will source some oem seats or reupholster them.

Prices are only going higher for years so if you really want this car now is the time to buy. It’s a collector car so anything said about value won’t be practical at all. The current vr 94 base listed on bat sold for 22722 in 2018. It will likely sell for 35k this time around and 50k in 2023 etc…..

If you want a deal this vr 94 might be the one to buy IF the rust is surface only.

At our local GM dealer, they had a board with all the back ordered four door pick-ups (waiting for chips maybe). They were all priced at around C$69,000 (about US$55,000) . For pick-up trucks!

Pick up trucks are no longer pick up trucks. They are beautiful wonders of technology combined with luxury, with the ability to be used for work. Haha

$55k USD? Sounds cheap for new trucks. Must be referring to basic half-tons. The 2500/3500 diesels that are more common in my neck of the woods are going for $75-85k and selling faster than dealers can get them.

tPossibly the last best, great snag. Under appreciated car. Historically significant; three times more rare than a Spririt R (at least)!

Even fewer survivors!

This one will be a great barometer for all of us trying to understand this FD market. I'm think it will run in the high 30s to low 40s due to mileage.

I think it'll do nearer or past 40. Slick top and low miles. Resale red. Eventually they can correct those seats, if they keep their eyes peeled.

Can someone help me value my FD

I find it hard to value my FD, there are just way to few 20B cars out there to compare to.
I think the price should be in the 115000 dollar range, what do you guys think.

title not clear
low compression
repainted
seat issue
rust

It could sell for 40k but I doubt it. That said I think this is a good opportunity for someone to get a decent deal, IF paint (I'm seeing major orange peel so possibly not the best job) is good and no tub rust.

I like the mods, model and year but this isn't one I'd buy because I'd rather spend 20k more and get a much better one. However I'm also not looking for a deal or I want keepers.

Yep it's nice to see what it sold for in 2018 vs what happens now. Again though I'm thinking 35k and the seller should be very happy.

Not clear it is worth that much - but the European market may be different.

A well-sorted 20B recently sold for $55k here in US :

Clean, low-mileage, stock (or at least not wildly modified) cars seem to sell for most.

the people pitted next to us one time in 2018 had an F450 Platinum (King Ranch, Longhorn etc etc) and then they pulled a knackered 924 out of the trailer. on monday i went on the Ford website and built the truck, $82k list.

if you can afford an $80K pickup, the FD is cheap....

The major snag to FD ownership was always the cost of a rebuild. Now the cars are valuable enough that a rebuild isn't a huge percentage of the total value, more people are looking to buy one.

One of my friends cut up 5 E30 M3 shells in a single afternoon, said they were taking up too much space behind the shop...

Eh, not really. It's how they are affording it. If you go out and buy it cash, then yes. But lots of people buy luxury goods with debt and then stay poor. Those people probably had a $2k per month payment which is why they had a crappy 924 to trailer around.

But who knows, maybe they just love 924 and are stupid rich haha.

Those people paying $80k are getting loans, same for the $50k truck guys. Much harder to get a loan on an old car, most of us paid cash I'm sure, totally different demographc. Financed work vehicle vs cash toy
