Yeah, since I'll never have a 250 GTO... That's what I tell my friends about why I bought mine.
I should really sell mine. It's better overall than the current BAT closing today, but auto, tan, 2nd owner and 10K more miles. Enjoyed owning and caring for it since 2010.
I'd just like to know if such a sale gets reported to the IRS (pesky capital gains tax).
Post 5528 has a pic from the auction site of the auction car engine bay. The second picturein that post is from SCM magazine. Is there enough simularity to suggest it is the same car?
Post with the deteriorated engine bay is another car that was just listed on YAJ in Japan.
It is an interesting contrast of conditions of near complete version 1 cars..
Not long ago there were still LHD floating up (perhaps literally) in closer condition to the YAJ car and selling for under $10,000.
Seem very rare now.
The YAJ car would be an interesting, if not challenging, project car for someone looking for an entry point.
I could easily imagine the car drawing a crowd at a cars and coffee (or vape and chatime) if driven under its own power in that condition to a meet. More so if parked beside one of the local Spirit Rs.
Don't worry, it will go way up. BaT auctions usually don't have much action until the final 10 minutes or so. That's the smart way to bid, after all, rather than running it up early.
^^90k is the second highest price an FD has sold on BAT. And the one that sold for more had 3x less miles. Miles IMO make the biggest impact on what these things sell for. Key word here is biggest because it's not the only thing that matters (obviously).
Out of curiosity, what were you expecting that car to sell for?
Miles are absolutely crucial in the collector world. 17k miles is actually a lot. All else being equal, I'd ballpark a 5k-mile car selling for a ~20% premium over a 17k-mile car.
How much negative bias to Japanese cars is still prevalent in the US collector car market and to what degree is that bias fading?
How would this influence the view of historic pricing?
The recent sale of 13 Supra Mark iV at one time (the drug dealer auction ) with an average of about $150,000 per car, may be instructive that the US market could absorb such a supply jolt.
How can we draw an equivalency between Spirit R (landed and licensed in Australia) and USDM LHD?
(For that matter how does the CIF Australia Thermal Coal China-ports, price, influence global FD prices?)
I guess I am used to seeing JDM. There does not seem to be an engine bay pic in the USDM sales brochure, but the cut away drawing indeed seems to show a blackish AST cap.
Its a touring, not an r1. That is a serious distinction. With that said the car that just went for $90k shocked me due to the rusted rear subframe. If we are being picky, a rusted rear subframe means there is more rust in the rest of the undercarriage brackets that are out of view due to the under body aluminum and plastic panels.
Is that the same car being flipped? There is that aftermarket AST cap again.
Hmmm. Engine bay is a lot dirtier.
i think the current replacement is a yellow cap, but the replacement in the coolant recall was that black one. then of course the factory installed cap was black, but 1.3 bar instead of 0.9

Ah yeah I missed that. Yeah definitely not as nice as the one that just sold. If I were to make an uneducated guess this is going to go for 65-70K just because it's a touring and the undercarriage.

But the one that just sold for ~$90k was also a Touring.

My car had the red-and-black cap when I got it in 2004. It's the one the Mazda dealer used in the coolant recall, as far as I can tell. Then again my car was missing the battery cover, so take that all with a grain of salt. 1994 RX7 engine bay, photo from February 2004
