Way too many variables other than terrible virus out there changing the world in a dramatic fashion so say plus 7k? I suspect this C19 thing/along with it's after shock will go on for a while and lots of markets will feel the pain including the collector car market. Clearly the FD has not lost it's shine/collector value.

PS watch the walk around if it's still available, clean but not super tidy.

Can't wait to see what it sells for. I'll say 22k. Seats are my favorite part of this car but they may smell, LOL. Hopefully it sells for 30 plus LOL CRAZY market.

 

Car looks ok, but mediocre paint job and not detailed under the hood, engine health unknown, and seller's questionable responses to basic stuff including offering to sell for cash outside of BaT right out in the open!!?? And of course timing. I don't think this one will bring nearly as much as it could.He's not playing his cards right. Oh yea, and NY, right now? Yikes. Might bring more home with you than just the car...

 

The car was listed on craigslist some time ago for I believe either $32k or $36k which seemed like a good deal but the description was bare bone.

 

Description on BAT is also a little limited considering all the work performed/needed.

IMO you'd pretty much have to replace every rubber component on the car and that's a lot of rubber lol.

That said given the current value of these cars we are looking at a BB R2 with 16k miles so who knows. May sell for well over 30k. Based upon the weather stripping, engine bay (UIM etc...), tires, underside pics etc...etc... it doesn't look like it was fully restored by any stretch so I doubt it will sell for anywhere near top value.

If the seller listed in detail what was repaired/replaced that should help the auction.

 

Are you the seller? Either way I am guessing around $40k. The seller would do himself a big favor by pulling the fuel pump and snapping shots inside the fuel tank. The engine bay could have been put back together better as well. I imagine this car will still bring good money as the low mileage will trump all and it would be pretty easy to get this car back to tip top shop. It is rare to see a 94/95 from the north with no rust on the rear sub frame.

 

excuse me, did you say rubber? um the interior of that thing is very nice for sitting outside that long.

i'm not sure why but the story doesn't ring true to me. if i was interested i'd go look at the thing in person, the story the guy tells and the story the car tells i think would be different

EDIT, Mazda says its a BB R2, engine is 118873 it was built 9/29/1993, sold new in Illinois 3/26/1994

I've owned a lot of FDs with low mileage that sat for extended periods outside. The gas tank is your 1st major problem but it keeps going and going............

This car is typical. However once you tear into them you see the ravages of poor storage. If covered the interior won't look too bad but it usually smells and the plastic consoles are brittle.... blah blah blah Moisture will find it's way in, not unusual to clean mold inside and underside etc... The interior will get super hot sitting outside day after day in the summer which is obviously really bad for the plastic. Bottomline: I would discount this car 10k minimum for storage, at least 5k for paint which takes a 37k to 50k FD down to 35 or 22 hehe. As David mentioned it could easily sell for 40k but it could just as well sell for 22k. Very hard to determine value on this car without seeing it and driving it along with hearing a ton more from the seller about the engine build and what's been replaced all over the car. I don't expect it to do well but I'll REPEAT; THIS IS A CRAZY MARKET.

Many 93 cars were built in 92 so I'm sure that's not unusual, given everything else going on it would be the least of my concerns.

 

I'm not the seller. I'm in the market for buying one and trying to get an idea on the market.

As for what I'm looking for. First I would hate to buy it high, so I'm trying to get an idea on the market outlook, how the current situation is effecting the JDM sports car market. Secondly I'm looking for something in the middle, not a museum quality but also not something that's been abused/neglected/etc. Something I can just drive without worrying too much about it losing its value but well maintained and in good condition enough to make the drives enjoyable.

 

What's everyones thoughts on the CYM on BAT, I really want a CYM to use as a daily driver(I'm retired so not so daily). Just not sure how much to pay over what a good condition 155k mile RX7 would sell for just because its a CYM.

 

I hate high mileage FDs because I have owned enough to know the cost to fix the issues or the annoyance that comes with it if you don't. With that said, it appears to be in overall good shape as the interior looks pretty damn good for the mileage. I am not a fan of driving a yellow Mazda but I believe the CYM tax will be added. Ill guess it ends in the $20-24k range.

 

I wish whoever had restored the r2 had gone the extra mile, cause they set up this whole dice roll kinda thing.

I like the cym one with the replaced cluster. You know what you're getting there.

And, listen to DJ and Fritz when they talk about high mileage/idle FDs. It's just so much work to replace a variety of FD nick nacks. It could be one of a dozen things that are hard to fix. You spend less if you buy better. Unless you don't care about that stuff, then go for the value.

 

that is my favorite trivia question, none of the 1993 model year cars were built in the calendar year of 1993. Production starts 10/91 for RHD cars and 12/91 for LHD cars and goes to 8/28/1992

the 1994 model year is 8/3/1993 to 3/25/1994
and 1995 is 4/1995 to 12/25/1995

the other trivia is that the highest 1995 vin is 530, but the last one built was 526

 

I have 527 and if I remember correctly it was the 4th to last FD to come off the line for US market. Last CW for sure.

 

4th to last vin number, but there were 5 that left the factory after, they were not built in order, in fact they still aren't, its close but not exact

 

Number on mine is 363 but the sticker in the door shows 12/1995 under the build date.

 

12/5/1995 to be exact. there were two batches of 1995's, one in April 1995 and another in December. this shows how cool Mazda is. once they found out that they were not going to have a 1996 model, they made an extra batch of 95's.

they have the production capacity to have made all the 1995's in about 3 days...

 

j9fd3s is on the money with his dates and engine numbers!!!! BTW the CYM is past my limit for a car with 155k miles!! CYM is already over 20k with fees and about 3 hours left and everyone knows what happens in the last minutes of a BAT auction lol
If there was any doubt about color carrying a premium.........I am going to say color definitely demands a premium!!!!
