Most amateur collectors have no idea what they are doing - and ignore the opportunity cost of the money invested in the car.
If you invested $33k (the cost of an FD) in a low-cost S&P 500 index fund in 1993, you'd have $500k by now (with dividend reinvestment and ignoring tax). Enough for two GT3 RSes!
Inflation is also a factor to consider
$33K 1993 = $62K 2021
Wait... Was this the car that made the spread on an issue of Road and Track? Circa 1999.... It had chrome mirrors. I remember the main picture with you behind the wheel, but i don't recall if it was R&T and whether it was the cover...
It was featured in Sport Compact in 1999, I believe. It did have chrome mirrors from an Audi TT (as well as the aluminum Audi gas door and chrome inside rear view mirror). Bit much, but it was interesting at the time.

Definitely brought back memories of a different era
I have the magazine somewhere... But yeah if you still have a pic, post it up please.
Seems like a good deal to me. I'm guessing the 94 currently in auction had something to do with it. It met reserve so perhaps the seller is good with it.

It really was a different era. I have the 2002 Sport Compact magazine somewhere, but here is the picture you mentioned and a shot of my 9 gauge layout. I really worked hard to design the dash layout differently in order to get all the gauges I wanted laid out like stock. No Mickey Mouse ears, no pods on top of the center of the dash, or on the A-pillar. Early Voodoo aluminum gear shift. David's original Wide Foot pedals.
A ridiculous gear shift **** and front emblem delete with 2 blobs of paint to fill the holes! That plus rear seats, but all of the original parts were included so easy to retrofit everything. Buyer got a good deal it appears.

Nice job on the gauges but where did you put the ac vents?
The 20K mile 94 Base
Looks awesome
Per CarFax ...1994-2003 driven 19,000 miles in 9 years,.. 2003-2021 driven 1,000 miles 18 years???????? Anyone know the back story?
93 VR touring w/tan is my least favorite FD and possibly others feel the same way.
Loving that 94 VR base on BAT right now. I suspect it will sell for over 60k given the condition, year, model etc....
Absolutely agree. I'm probably overly optimistic in thinking it could beat $70,000, but its a very very clean example of a base car. I think in some ways the Base is the purest of the models and this one will be a great collectible that hopefully gets driven.

Yup that's it!
So freaking cool. Thanks for stirring up good memories for me. My car was 100% stock at the time, it even a had pre-cat and a service warranty lol.
To keep the thread on topic:

I originally said $63K. Although, it is a very fine example so it wouldn't surprise if it lands closer to 70

I suspect when folks are paying over 50k for a 27 year old car they probably won't drive it much which is a shame. I'm still driving mine, it's literally my favorite car to drive, they are so much fun!!!
I love the base models too but the R2 in ssm is still my favorite in stock form.

Very few running hours on that engine. In a way it’s good, but at the same time it’s bad. I would be worried. Regardless, it will fetch for a pretty penny.
I took advantage of the weather today and took her out to stretch her legs. About 162,500km’s on the clock now.

Guess engine condition depends on how that final 1,000 miles over 18 years was accomplished......55 miles per year...ouch.
I would want a valid compression check & confirmation that it runs perfect....my all original '94 20,500 miles is F 117/118/116 R 124/125/119
