A few days ago, I saw that a 94 FD with 4K miles sold for 70K. I'm surprised that there is no mention of it here. Is this Rich's car?

I saw it pop up again on FB also. It's still a cool reference, but a little out of context. What with covid and the markets and what not. Although, I still see strong prices for luxury durables.

Curious

I am not in the market of selling my fd nor in the market of buying an fd. With that said it is still great to see the prices of the fd holding strong. I dont believe that the carona virus is going to effect the price of the fd. I think it will just stay as is and not grow in value until the carona virus scare goes away. I beleive the value of the fd will continue to rise soon. Many people who in the past were scared of the rotary engine, are now getting educated via social media. I dont know if the fd will be worth more than a supra but I do believe it will grow fairly closer in value as the years go by. Just my thoughts with no real data to prove it. Basically just a hunch or wild guess.

I just paid $31k for a bone stock '93 MB Touring with just under 24k miles and I think I got a fair deal. Drove over 1200 miles to pick it up and trailer it home. It took awhile to find the one I wanted. There are several FDs out there on autotrader and other used car sites but they are either overpriced(imho) or not what I was exactly looking for. I inquired about one and after their response asking if I had any questions I asked if they had or could get compression test numbers. I never heard back from them so I guess they didn't want to sell it that bad.

Sounds about right. Saw the pictures in the picture thread. Nice lookin' car. Paint looks real nice, and they're only original once.

That sounds reasonable. I'll be looking for something similar. CW will be my first choice of color with MB being second. I wouldnt mind reliability mods but a clean body is a must. Miles arent a big issue as long as it's been maintained. I plan on keeping stock twins and as dependable as possible. My budget will depend on the quality of car. Its saddening to see how many cars have been totally trashed.

Assuming they aren't hiding something: I doubt that anyone who is not familiar with rotaries, or actively involved here in the forum, or BAT would provide compression numbers. The reasoning is that you have to be intimately involved with rotaries to know the value of that question. So for many people out there if the car runs good, looks good, and has good maintenance, enough said! This goes for both buyers and sellers.

Don't forget that part of the used car buying experience involves having your own mechanic check it out. In other words, a compression test can be run on your dime. I realize that this is only realizable for those that are within reasonable driving distance to where the car is being sold.

I don't think that dealer was hiding anything and I would have been willing to even pay for the test if they would have asked but I just never heard back from them so I moved on. The one I bought had pics of the compression test and the work order from the Mazda dealer it had been done at with numbers in the printed description. The guy selling it admitted to not knowing much about rotaries but he did his research before putting it up for sale. He is a high end car dealer. It was the cheapest car in his showroom. He also had a 2019 McLaren Senna Carbon edition sitting there along with several Porsches, an Austin Healy, and a Gallardo. He is not a typical used car dealer. It also happened to be in the same city my sister lives in and my brother-in-law knew the owner of the dealership. It was meant to be.

I get that. It might have been a different story if you were there in person and proved that you were a serious buyer, aka not a tire kicker. All I am saying is that we should't be surprised if sellers outside of the forum/BAT/rotary experts completely ignore an online request for a compression test. Stoked if they do and if they don't then do like you did, move on to someone who will.

Congrats on the buy btw!

Congrats on your bone stock low mile FD.

I bought my '93 VR with 20k miles in 2010 for $17k.
She's swiftly approaching 50k on the chassis but the stock motor let go at 44k with no mods (2015).

I recommend pulling the motor out and rebuilding regardless of your compression test results...

...or just dont drive it

And for your enjoyment.... a black, 1994, PEG on Bring a Trailer:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-mazda-rx-7-89/

Looks pretty clean - esp. for the mileage: 66k. I'll guess... $35k

Looks like I need to start organizing my cash and be ready. I would be all over that right now if it were white. Black would be my Last choice just because we already have a black car in the garage. I'm curious to see what this will go for.

White cars are pretty hard to find. You're gonna need some strategic patience and cash on hand. The last white one pulled a premium, despite some questionable presentation.

I saw that one go for like $42k. I dont need one that nice but would probably jump on something like that if another one popped up. MB is my second choice in color but may be able to wait it out for a CW. My main thing is a clean body and not a project. Miles dont matter as much as overall condition and how well it was maintained.

What does "testing the waters of this baby for sale" mean?

Is he serious or just trying to flex on facebook?

It means he's trying to start a bidding war. And, that car may be dope, but I see red flags. Would PPI hard.

Not to say you can't build something nice but this hasn't been cared for well and it shows. I would have a really hard time believing the mileage in that condition unless it's been parked outside and they sprayed it because the clear coat was gone, either way, they cheaped out on body work which is never a good idea.

Here is a '93 for sale on Copart.
https://www.copart.com/lot/37674630

It has a reserve on it but for someone with the know how and funds it might be a good one to rescue.
