@Fritz Flynn , I already know it's the wild west out on track as far as the dynamic between the drivers is concerned but does your local organization review these scenarios and administer any penalties or discipline? If the organization can ban a driver like this from their events and flag him to other organizations, and drivers are made aware that outcome is possible if they're reckless/negligent, then it might force people to second guess trying to win the imaginary race going on in their head.
Gents,
Local owner here in Phoenix just listed his car for sale on BAT. Montego BLUE '94. Solid driver. I'm very familiar with the car if anyone has Qs.

Maybe some rare parts will fall out of the tree
A black 94 R2 just sold in the FS section for what seemed like the deal of the year.
I see a couple decent shells floating around too.

Didn't that '94 R2 have a known blown coolant seal?
Sold for $20k?
A car like that 10 years ago would have only pulled $12k at most.
Are you saying a low mile $20k roller is looking like a good deal at this point?

At 55 I've slowed down a lot. My body is worn out (lots of mileage hehe). For most of the past 20 years I've had 5 plus FDs laying around in different configurations until this year.
I still have a nice VR R2 and my VR R1 track/race car.
I used to have a nice GT3 until a mustang hit me at the track last year: https://streamable.com/rfcyd?utm_sou...medium=ios_app

Glad you're okay!
Was not aware of coolant seal, but even so the math was looking good on that car. Looked like selling all the bolt on parts would cover most/all of a rebuild/restoration, and a clean rebuilt black low-ish-miles r2 would sell well above break even.

Not only was it a good deal with the blown coolant seal it was an incredible deal. That car had a ton of money in it and was worth $30-40k before this pandemic hit put back to stock or near stock. Even in this turmoil I would buy that car 3 times over.
I think you will see 3 types of FDs pop up right now.
1. Project cars from guys losing their jobs
2. Rougher stock cars from guys who bought the last year or two thinking the value would surge but they dont have the deep pockets of a real collector.
3. Highly modded cars built to the extreme with no care for retirement or the future. Maxed out credit cards and needing to free up money quickly in this mess that is happening now.
I think the long term owners and collectors will sit tight as they made it through the recession and realize we will make it through this as well.

I'm seeing some cars trade on BaT at what appear to be prices lower than they should be, but there are still a lot of cars on offer there. There are some real buys right now, I think. I saw a 1990 964 that had maybe 40k miles sell for $60,000. I think it would have gotten $75,000 a month ago. Fritz... did you see that one? What do you think. A few others seemed cheap to me. A mint restored MGB for $14,000. You'd have to look for yourselves at cars you watch. I'd love to hear what others think about BaT right now.

I suspect nothing will be the same once we get through this corona virus pandemic.
The R2 was a very good deal all things considered.
I bet this ends up being a great buy: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2014-porsche-gt3-2/

You won't see the panicked selling of cars for a few weeks, when the layoffs really start to hit. If the quarantine/shut down doesn't subside in a week or two (which seems likely), millions of people will lose their job as small businesses shut down permanently and large corporations let people go.
I'm glad I sold my FD last June. At the time I knew the peak selling season was almost over and if I wanted a quick sale without taking a huge hit I needed to sell at that time or I'd be at the mercy of the financial markets until about May 2020.

I think the fear could be out of the economy in April, God willing. The quarantines or self-isolation combined with the roll out and reporting on the effective use of Chloroquine could show everyone that we were handling it and that we would be seeing results like those from South Korea soon.

It's time to buy stocks. Market may go all the way to 10 or this is the bottom.
The only thing that's certain is if you risk nothing you gain nothing.

That being said, no leaf blowers, no police chase at 3pm, traffic is gone, and the air is cleaner that we've seen it in years. so net/net its an improvement
The collector car market as a whole will take a hit, including FD's. That said, the 1% cars will still hold their value (see the 15k mile MKIV that sold for $126k on Wednesday on BaT) while the nice to mid-grade cars are RNM. Sellers will either have to lower their expectations or keep their cars until things recover.
Could be a nice time to pick up a "driver" or good condition FD.
I bought my FD in January of this year before Covid-19 hit stateside. It will never be worth what I paid for it for quite sometime if ever, but that said I don't ever plan on selling it either : )

The problem is if you enjoy it/drive it then you will likely break even at best. However if you put it on a shelf I think you'll make money in the end. These cars are SPECIAL!
Looked up that supra and can't believe how dated/awful the interior is. The FD is a classic from the inside out.

That said if I can get my FD up and running I'll drive that but that car has me so burned out it will probably just keep collecting dust.
