as for the RX8 rotors i was told by a couple of shops out here that they were not compatible. Something about the oil seals...
If they are compatible then why aren't there more posts of people using them in their motors???

No!
86-88 n/a are 9.4:1, 89-91 n/a are 9.7:1
87-88 TII are 8.5:1, 89-91 TII and FD are 9.0:1
And the rx8 rotors ARE compatible. People have done it, there are a few modifications that have to be made, but nothing major in retrospect. No one, to my knowledge, is using rx8 rotors on this board yet, but that's because it's rx7club, most of the higher end racers/tuners/builders don't hang out around here. You can check race car tech section, though, and search to see. That'd be your best bet to see if anyone on here is using them.

Okay.
I get confused, so many people with so many answers.
There is no such thing as a "GTU" rotor is there??
I get a lot of people saying that they are the only 9.7:1 comp rotors. but I know all S5 N/a rotors are that comp.
So Why do I always see these rotors on ebay and on the forum for sale as 86-88 N/a rotors with 9.6:1 comp.??
AS far as Turbo rotors I know the compression on those, it seems almost everyone agrees on what those are anyway. Aside from that I have the original dealer brochure for the 87 T2 and for a 1993 RX7. It has the engine description in there.
So is the only difference between SE rotors and S4 rotors the 3mm Apex seal the the SE has???
is that the only difference??

The GSL-SE rotors are also HEAVIER than 86-88 rotors, and the 89+ rotors are even lighter than 86-88.
Here I did a search for you too, obviously you werent looking hard enough for the rx8 rotor use https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=rx8+rotors
And there is an email from mazdatrix in that post where they say:
We do no mods to the rotors (except installing the racing rotor bearing).
okay thanx for helping in clearing that up on the rotors.
I do know that the SE rotors are heavier.
But still do you know if the only other difference is that the SE rotors are 3mm apex seal and the 86-88 are not???

Besides being heavier, yes the only real difference in the physical rotor is the 3mm seals.
Don't quote me on the ring/gear on it though, it may not be as strong as the later style rotors, but I don't know that for sure or if Mazda even changed it.

I did a NA turbo setup a few years back, got about 3000 miles on the motor before it blew, but the motor had about 180,000 on it when i went turbo, not bad in my book

Yeah i got the motor in it fires up right away no struggles, i also got a lightweight steel flywheel with this motor and i love the way it revs now.
I still need to get the driveshaft in and top off the fluids. Then i'm going to take it for a spin brign it back drain all the fluids and then put in some good stuff.

if you don't run an intercooler, your not even going to be able to run enough boost to make any power, you'll still be getting beat by b16 civics

I can understand sleeper but how the heck would someone know if you have a V mount or a stock top mount on your car without opening the hood and checking? I guess your not going to run a BOV either, but then again the sound of compressor surge would still be audible
well bad news, got the motor in went down the street just cruising checking everthing and popped the motor. Was only hitting 5 psi, and no detonation it just started idling shitty after slowing down to turn in my neighborhood. Something is definatly gone bad with the fuel, this one popped the front rotor.
This poject is not over going bigger better and faster, MUHAHAHAHAHA.

yeah wide band still broke, haha i was just going to take it easy till i got the wide band back and see if there was a problem but that didn't even happen.
I really don't care its obviously some thing is wqron with either an injector or something fuel wise going to the front rotor, the rear rotor still has great compression.
I think i might just turn the boost up to like 20 psi and unclip the injectors to the front rotor and just boost the hell out of one rotor, have the fastest single rotor rx-7, hahahahaha
Going to try to get another engine soon to put in it, not really worried about it, this way i will be able to take care of some other things on the car that i wanted to get done.

well maybee cus they are using old beat up motors fro their projects. when i do my prject, ill do it right the first time.
its going to take a long *** time to finish, but leme tell yah, 400 hp will be in my crosshairs.

Haha, Sonicrat started with an ~180k mile s4 n/a block, turbo'd it, BNR stage 3 with bunches of fuel and stuff, and put I think another 10k miles on it, still runs! It's all about tuning.
