They aren't hard to use at all, and if kept clean, like any sprayer, they will give you consistent high quality results. Considering the price of a pro paint job, and all other things, this doesn't sound like it would be a bad idea. Just a thought.

I am in the middle of a repaint project on my wife's Celica convertible. I am 'doing it right' with lots of help and a friend with his professional grade equipment. It ain't easy and it ain't simple.

I have a Wagner and I have an FC. I don't think that I want them in the same room.

That's great jack. However, this is not about you doing it professionally with your friend and his high end equipment. I'm pretty sure none of us would be banging knuckles in our dirty garages and driveways with what tools we have if we had a pocket full of cash and a full on mechanic for a best friend who happens to have a fully equipped shop. Your mindset and situation is on the completely opposite end of the spectrum.

He's using rollers right now, an affordable sprayer would just be the next step up. A little practice with the sprayer and you're looking at far more even coats, and that equals less work. Period.

the problem i see with the wagner, is that im not to sure the coats can be put on as light as really needed.... maybe, but ill stick with rolling for now.

because the paint even though its decent looking for 50 bucks is not better than having the car stripped and painted professionally. sure it looks good and i commend the guy for having the ***** to do it i just couldnt see myself doing it to an fd... esp not an fd with good paint as it is o_O

Looking good.

What grit are you sanding with now? You might try some 1000, then 1500 then the final polish.

What polish you using?

HELLO, MCFLY! You are thinking about buying a Wagner sprayer and you know all about it. I have owned one for years and have painted nearly anything you can imagine: Houses, roofs, furniture, grass (yes grass), lawn equipment and even most of a person (different story, involves alcohol).

No, you entirely missed the point, lex. And please don't attempt to analyze my mindset. I dissed my own personal Wagner equipment. You play psyco-doc on my mind. Sheesh...

FWIW, I am soon to be painting another celica (red) with the roller method, so pull your panties out of your crack and calm down. The red celica is a piece of crap and I STILL wouldn't let the Wagner in the same room with it.

You think the Wagner will be less work; it won't be. You think the results will be better; they won't be.

This roller method is a very, very interesting process. Most of the advantatages of this roller method are due to the extra thin paint thinned with slow drying paint thinner. That enables the painter to put on a very thin coat. The paint has time and viscosity to do a lot of self-leveling.

Run that same thin paint through a Wagner and it is going to be a disaster. The wagner power sprayer is now the problem. You will have all of the downside of spraying a car- overspray, masking, drips and runs due to the thin bodied paint, orange peel, etc that you can get with pro equipment and paint and NONE of the control. If you don't thin it, you will then find out how bad the Wagner really is.

Tell you what. You buy a Wagner sprayer, keep track of your time and expense, including cleanup (cost money to blow thinner through the gun to clean it) and fixing fuckups, and then compare it to snowball's time and expense. Oh and don't forget to include the cost of the gun. I bet he has better results, less time and less money in the project than you and your Wagner sprayer.

If you use less time and money and get better results, I will buy you a beer next time you are in Dallas.

Waddaya say?

This is the white turtle wax compound?

You might try some of this stuff:

http://superiorcarcare.net/3mperllrubco.html

I got mine at Pep Boys, Walmart has it too.

I have been really impressed with this compound. It is really good, slightly more aggressive than the turtle wax compound you are using. You will get more shine with this product because it takes more of the scratches from the 1500 grit out. Finish with the turtle wax compound then with a wax.

looking good.
