thanks guys....last nite i got the front and rear bumper attached and wet sanded them along with the driver side door...HOWEVER, the passenger is going to get re-primed. what i did was primed the inside of the door...waited an hour and primed the ouitside. well, i waited just a little to long and the primer started gumming up and made BAD overspray and i also didnt put it on as thick as id like. SO since i already wet sanded it and blew it off last nite....im going to spray it again in a few minutes then clean and prep then apply the S5 moldings. i could leave the door as is but the orange peel is kind of bad. no big deal since primer dries so quickly.

Wow... looks like you might beat me to a finish... however... I bought enough paint. Hehe. I bought an entire gallon of Deltron 2000 in Mazda PZ black and 2 quarts of PPG 2002 clear. I need to pick up a third quart of clear... but otherwise, I'm ready.

I should have everything except my chassis, doors, and front fenders painted this weekend.

What paint are you using? I think i saw you saying you used Napa martin senior paints... but I'm too lazy to click back a page or two. Hehe. Are you doing single stage? base/clear?

Your nemesis,

Damn man looking good. You using a HVLP gun or an old school gun? A gallon should have covered your car. I think you lost most of it in overspray. Keep up the good work man. You're kickin a$$ on it.

I seen a car like yours in St. Marys at a car dealer. It was a Vert though. Don't know if it's for sale or not. I imagine it is.

Yeah.. wow.. a gallon should be more than plenty with HVLP... Who the heck uses conventional guns anymore? .. Should be able to do the entire car with 3qts... Does that include the engine bay? I would imagine you used a single stage or POR15 for that...

I've read on other car sites That alot of the older guys that learned on the older guns still use them cause they have a hard time adjusting to the HVLP guns. I've used both and like them both. The older guns just throw off a hell of a lot of overspray. That's more paint that could be going on the car .

Dark base color coat over a light color primer is a pain in the ***.
I'd be surprised if it comes out okay with just two coats?

The way I overcome this is using a super-dark primer sealer. in my case, black. It also smoothes out any teeny pits caused by a surfacing primer.

If slightly under 30 is now considered "old" them I'm...ah, dead.
Why was I not informed?

@88rxn/a:
I can't believe a gallon of paint on the body looks like that- maybe too high pressure?

Also, at what point do you plan on getting to the edges of things?
There is still visible primer (and even a touch of red) on the headlight covers and hood, for instance.

to me,if your near 30 on this forum your old. take a look at the age group on here. but were putting a car together here not discussing age right
anything exposed (primer and perhaps red paint) will be gone over with a fine comb and inspected today and written down so when i do shoot color again ill make sure and hit them spots.
and i dont know why it didnt cover the car. im not a professional painter. as stated this is the 2ND car ive ever painted. with that being said, it think its turning out great it just needs another coat or two.

edit:i forgot to add that i painted the bottom of the hood also with that gallon. im guesing that is another reason why i ran out. and i painted with 35-38 PSI on the gun. its recommended to use between 35-45 or 40, i cant remember off the top of my head.

double edit: remember guys, i had to sand all that paint back off a couple weeks ago, i sprayed more than i thought on there. you would know if you were next to me sanding all that paint back down!!lol

My dad has a HVLP gun but I use his old school one instead. I just can't get the HVLP gun to spray right. I'm used to using a $500 dollar guns that they had in school and not a Harbor freight special. The old school gun is working great for me. Use what ya got man. I painted my old car with a $30 Walmart gun. It turned out ok. Had a bit of orange peel but no big.
